Chapter 401: The Girl’s Determination
Kaise stared at the paper for a while before picking up her pen to write.
“Write and read aloud so I can understand the content; I can’t see it very well.”
“Okay.” Kaise complied.
However, Yuliya could see just fine, but she couldn’t comprehend a thing.
She could talk, but writing? Not at all.
Uh-oh, it turns out I’m the illiterate one here.
But if Kaise reads it aloud, Yuliya can match the sounds to the written words.
Beastmen language is super simple, so with this pairing, she could understand more than half of it, and after a little refresher, she’d be on her way to mastering the language.
Once a simple letter was finished, Kaise set off for Hani’s family house.
This time, Yuliya specifically shrouded her in stealth, making sure no one was alerted.
From the straw hut area to the grand family district, the architectural styles changed dramatically along the way.
By the time they drew near the straw huts, the lights were ablaze.
Not exactly red-light district vibes, but enough illumination to light up the surroundings.
The stark contrast within a single village encapsulated a line from an ancient Huaxia Kingdom poem—“Gold and meat stink behind the red doors, while frozen bones lie on the road.”
This kind of situation had never happened in the Human Race territories that Yuliya had traveled through.
Kaise prepared to leave the shadows and reach the doorstep of the Kailei Family, where Hani resided.
“Wait a minute, you can’t just go like that,” Yuliya called out, stopping her.
If she swaggered in to deliver a letter, they wouldn’t acknowledge her at all.
Yuliya suddenly remembered another issue: “Kaise, you have to think this through. After you send this letter and even if you get your stuff back, you won’t be able to stay here anymore.”
The temptations of treasure and the face of the grand family wouldn’t permit Kaise to linger.
“Lady Riya, I understand.” Kaise took a deep breath, “Actually, when I planned to get the things my father left for me, I had already decided to leave this place.”
“Leave here? Where will you go?”
“I’m going to find Kaistes!”
That statement was strong and resolute, delivered with an iron-clad tone.
At that moment, it had nothing to do with race or strength; Yuliya saw the girl’s conviction and determination.
She wasn’t content with the status quo; she wanted to chase after the distant horizons.
Yuliya wouldn’t make her decisions for her, but if she had already chosen her direction, she didn’t mind giving her a little push.
“I get it,” Yuliya said with a cheerful smile, “You should wear this to go.”
A black full-cover cloak landed on Kaise’s head.
She caught it instantly and looked down, “This… this is Lady Riya’s outfit! Wow! So exquisite and beautiful!”
“Yep, I have plenty. Put this on to cover up, and then hold out your hands.”
Kaise obediently extended her left hand, while her right hand was still inspecting the cloak.
She had never seen such beautiful clothing before.
Even if it was just pure black, there was nothing particularly eye-catching about it.
But the next moment, her eyes were dazzled, and her outstretched left hand felt heavier.
Turning her gaze, she was stunned to see two shiny gold coins resting in her palm.
“G-g-gold coins! No way, no way, Lady Riya, this is too valuable!”
Yuliya was at a loss for words; this silly girl had no idea at all.
“These aren’t for you; just give those two guards the gold coins when you deliver the letter to get their help.”
“Huh? You’re just giving them such good coins? One coin is enough for me to eat grilled fish for a year… ten years!”
Inflation much?
Yuliya was a bit surprised too. Surely that’s too generous, right?
Oh well, whatever.
Gold coins are definitely hard currency, but silver coins are iffy.
“Go on now, trust me.”
Kaise was reluctant but still obeyed Yuliya’s instructions.
She approached, tossed out two gold coins, and delivered the letter, saying only, “This is a letter for Hani. It’s very important.” Then she spun around and left.
Creating just the right amount of mystery and flair.
One of the guards wanted to say something but was stopped by the other.
“Look at her outfit; she’s clearly from one of the five great families. We’re just here for the money, no need to poke our noses in too much.”
After delivering the letter, Kaise returned to the shadows, one hand over her racing heart: “Whoa! So nerve-wracking! I almost scared myself to d*ath!”
Yuliya comforted her, “It’s okay, you did great.”
“Yeah.” Kaise smoothed out her racing heartbeat, excitedly saying, “But after doing that, it feels exhilarating! Next time, I’ll definitely do even better!”
Uh… next time? You’re already thinking ahead to the next adventure?
Yuliya couldn’t help but twitch her lips.
I hope I didn’t just flip the switch on this kid’s wild side…
Teaching the good little girl to do bad things, and now she can’t stop herself.
Well, a bit of mischief is fine; it’ll help her avoid getting bullied out there.
With everything ready, Yuliya suggested wandering around the area to let Kaise see more of the situation here.
With that eye-catching cloak for cover, Kaise walked through the brightly lit place without encountering any trouble.
Others either ignored her or made way for her.
This situation—where she didn’t need to bow and scrape but was instead being fawned over—was something Kaise had never experienced before.
She could move freely; she could do as she pleased.
This was a scene she had never seen before and never imagined experiencing.
However, after a little while, Kaise’s excitement quickly faded.
Not only did she not feel comfortable, but she also found it rather ridiculous.
Just by changing her clothing, those once haughty and aloof people suddenly became humble and flattering.
Is this what status is? Just a layer of skin.
This town, along with all the other towns, and even the essence of the entire country probably operated on this principle.
So boring.
“Lady Riya, I don’t want to stroll anymore…”
“Then let’s head back.”
“I don’t want to go back either…”
Yuliya sensed Kaise’s emotional shift and guessed what she was thinking; she chuckled and said, “How about we go out, leave the village, and stargaze together?”
“Okay!”
Kaise quickly walked towards the village’s edge, crossing the fence.
Just as she stepped over, she saw Yuliya waiting for her up ahead and happily sprinted over.
“You’re amazing, Lady Riya! You can talk to me from so far away. You can even conjure these things. And the gold coins too!”
“Just some little tricks.”
“So… Lady Riya, can I hold onto these things for a bit longer before returning them?”
“Consider them a gift.”
“Thank you, Lady Riya! I… I’ll definitely give you something equally valuable later… I don’t have it right now, but I’ll figure it out!”
Yuliya laughed lightly and shook her head, “Do as you wish.”
These things were nothing to her, whether returned or not didn’t matter.
But if this kid insisted, let her have her fun.
This is her adventure.
Very amusing.
