Chapter 330: Sorry, the Cake Got Nabbed by a Little Rascal
As the Southern Region Fox Clan temporarily bunked at the Heavenly Sword Sect, rumors of the elusive fox maiden started swirling through the sect like a bad perfume.
Most disciples sneaking peaks at the fox maiden kept coming home disappointed—turns out, Nine-Tailed Fox Clan folks don’t bother keeping their fox ears and tails in human form. No, those are just for cosplay or maybe when they’re feeling extra fancy.
‘Why do I get this weird vibe from the sect’s disciples? Their eyes are kinda freaked out…’
You Su Rong Rong rubbed her chin in confusion, noticing that every encounter with a Heavenly Sword Sect disciple—male or female—ended with a look of utter disappointment like she’d just told them the end of their favorite soap opera.
No matter how much she pondered, she couldn’t figure out why.
‘Maybe I should ask Bai Feng later,’ she thought.
Over the past few days, thanks to her shameless visits, she’d gotten a little familiar with Bai Feng—the lucky guy—though meeting the nine-tailed fox was still a rarity.
While contemplating this, her gaze landed on Qiao Qiao, sprawled on the sofa reading a book. Her jaw nearly hit the floor. ‘Wait, Qiao Qiao reads books? Really?’
But then she peeked at the contents and her face instantly darkened. ‘What are you reading?!’
‘Spring and Autumn Annals! Heard it’s pretty popular in the North Region,’ Qiao Qiao said nonchalantly, holding up the book and waving it in front of You Su Rong Rong’s eyes. ‘This book’s great—I mean, do you wanna check it out?’
You Su Rong Rong gave it a quick glance, her face darkening even more. ‘Could you read something decent?’
‘Isn’t this decent enough?’ Qiao Qiao looked puzzled. ‘I’m practicing Charm Magic. It really helps me out!’
‘…Then you should keep that stuff private,’ she replied, rubbing her temple.
They’re nine-tailed foxes, after all—Charm Magic is kind of their thing, and she, surprisingly, doesn’t practice it much. It’s rare to find her not doing some kind of charm.
‘It’s just you in this room, no one else around, so it’s fine,’ Qiao Qiao said, flipping pages. ‘And I actually think you, Sister Su, could try Charm Magic too! I used to think your aloof personality didn’t match, but now I think it would be pretty charming—literally!’
‘Not interested,’ You Su Rong Rong shook her head. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to; she’s just way too shy to use Charm Magic openly. Embarrassment got the better of her.
‘I’m going to visit Bai Feng now. Try not to cause trouble,’ she said, about to leave.
Before she finished, Qiao Qiao bounced like a spring from the sofa. ‘Me too!’
‘…You can come, but don’t go spreading nonsense,’ she warned.
She hesitated but remembered Bai Feng’s recent attitude toward Qiao Qiao. Using her might reveal something new—maybe even break through some wall.
‘Wait for me, Sister Su! I need to change!’ Qiao Qiao exclaimed and dashed into her bedroom.
—
Later, Bai Feng looked at the nervous You Su Rong Rong as she entered, then shifted aside politely. ‘Come in. Same as last time—green tea and a piece of cake?’
‘…Mm,’ she nodded weakly, sighing inwardly. Her stubbornness was running thin after these days of repeated visits. But for the fox clan’s sake, she had to press on, biting her lip and pushing through shame.
Suddenly, she remembered and added, ‘Oh, by the way, Qiao Qiao is also here.’
She then subtly shifted to reveal Qiao Qiao, clad in a dazzling pale green gown with intricate gothic-style embroidery, long white stockings poking out from beneath, and little black shoes. She looked like she’d raided a cosplay store.
Bai Feng blinked. ‘Is she wearing that out? Wow, the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan really dares to wear anything.’
Realizing Bai Feng’s gaze, Qiao Qiao smirked. ‘Do you like it?’
‘Looks good,’ Bai Feng said, nodding. He designed that dress himself, so it better be amazing.
Unaware of their different thoughts, Qiao Qiao’s smile grew even wider.
Suddenly, she reached forward, pulling out a transmitter-like device called a “Liu Ying Qi” (Image Retainer), and asked, ‘Since you made that, you must have a Pigeon Messenger account, right? Want to add each other as friends?’
‘Sure!’ Bai Feng readily agreed, adding her to his potential business partners list with his work account.
Then, she turned to You Su Rong Rong and extended her hand. ‘Can I add you too?’
‘Yes,’ she replied.
A few seconds later, You Su Rong Rong looked at her new friend in the Pigeon Messenger and felt relieved. Now she didn’t have to show up personally—she could just contact Bai Feng directly.
She thought Qiao Qiao was just here for fun, but turns out she was helping! Maybe she should praise her when she gets back.
‘Alright, everyone inside,’ Bai Feng said, putting away the Liu Ying Qi.
Despite some subtle romantic plans for Little Jiu, he was also vaguely curious about the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan’s schemes.
He wanted to explore some business deals—like hiring fox girls as workers or something.
‘Thanks for your trouble,’ You Su Rong Rong nodded and followed Bai Feng inside.
Qiao Qiao tugged her clothes playfully. ‘Sister Su, why didn’t you tell me there was cake here? Isn’t that important?’
‘…’ You Su Rong Rong didn’t reply—she just shot a glance at her. Yeah, that’s exactly why she didn’t tell. Because of your gluttonous face!
A few minutes later, Bai Feng brought over two servings of Tiramisu. ‘Sorry, the cake got stolen by some little rascal. That’s all that’s left.’
Tian Yan, who was checking out the house options, sneezed dramatically. ‘Achoo!’
She rubbed her nose and looked at her selected spot, nodding slightly, but she didn’t rush to build her house. Instead, she sat on a stone and took a small bite of her cake, savoring it.
Next to her, the Liu Ying Qi displayed a message thread:
One hour earlier…
Tian Yan: Can I eat the cake in the kitchen?
Bai Feng: Just go get it yourself. After you’re done, help me check on the Demonic Path. I feel like they’re up to something weird lately.
Tian Yan: OK.jpg
And just now…
Bai Feng: Why the heck did you eat all my cake?
Tian Yan glanced at the message, then closed the Liu Ying Qi and kept munching her cake happily. With so much cake in front of her, resisting was futile—it’s like putting a juicy, fatty piece of meat in front of a starving lion!
Even if she didn’t need to check, she knew she’d be in trouble later. But for now, cake was more important. The rest? She’d deal with that later.
