Chapter 510: Foul! You Can’t Pause the Game to Attack Me!
“Senior Sister, you’re getting a lot more direct, huh?” Bai Feng grinned as he reached out and gently scooped up Yu Yao. “At this rate, I can’t promise what I might do next!”
“W-Wait, hold on!” Yu Yao hurriedly waved her hands. “I haven’t finished my demonstration yet!”
Bai Feng blinked, then carefully set her down. She stood in front of him, reached out, and touched the hem of her dress. “I added some special designs, like…”
With a deft flick of her fingers, her skirt suddenly shortened by a notch, revealing her thighs wrapped in white silk.
“How about now?” she spread her arms and looked at Bai Feng. “This wedding dress can gradually shrink piece by piece. Pretty cool, right?”
“Absolutely amazing,” Bai Feng nodded with a thumbs up.
“Then…” A faint blush crept onto Yu Yao’s cheeks, but she didn’t look away. Instead, she tilted her head at him. “Wanna try it yourself?”
“…In that case, I can’t guarantee what might happen next,” Bai Feng muttered cautiously.
—
After leaving Yu Yao’s place, the sky was already turning dark. Bai Feng looked up at the now night-shrouded sky and sighed softly—guess he could only deliver the rest tomorrow.
“Let’s head back first.”
After all, tonight he still had a date with Little Jiu for some game time.
Back home, he saw Little Jiu, who had already transformed into her human form and was sulking on the sofa. She looked up when he pushed the door open and loudly declared, “You’re so slow!”
“Ahem, just a little busy,” Bai Feng said, averting his gaze. “But hey, it’s still early, not even dark yet. We’ve got all night to play!”
“Mpph… I’ll forgive you for now,” Little Jiu said, not bothering to argue further. She took out the Image Retainer and muttered, “Let’s get started already!”
“Hold on, I need to update the game first.”
Though he recently visited the Southern Region, the game development hadn’t stopped. The framework was already set, and all the settings were done. Even if he wasn’t at Array, the disciples working on the game could handle the remaining work independently.
“Faster, faster!”
Urged by Little Jiu, Bai Feng updated the demo to the latest version. A few levels were still unfinished, but what had been completed was enough for him and Little Jiu to have a blast for a while.
Once the update finished and he launched the game, a CG scene appeared before him and Little Jiu.
It was simple—a zombie wandering the street, emphasizing the apocalypse vibe. The graphics were detailed enough that it looked pretty good, and Little Jiu immediately shrank back, frightened.
Bai Feng tilted his head to glance at Little Jiu, who was pressed tightly against him, even her tail instinctively curling around his arm.
“This is just a game, and you’re still in the Refinement Stage. Think about the power inside you,” Bai Feng said softly.
“I—I’m not scared,” Little Jiu quickly rebutted, shaking her head stubbornly. “I just find it more comfortable to play like this.”
Bai Feng said nothing further. He reached out, scooped her up, and held her in his arms.
It’s understandable that Little Jiu, afraid of zombies, would be a bit on edge—kind of like how people can stomp on cockroaches, yet still jump whenever they see one.
Sitting in Bai Feng’s embrace, Little Jiu seemed a little calmer, her stiff body visibly relaxing.
“Don’t mess around when I’m playing, okay?” she warned, recalling what Bai Feng had done to her before.
“No worries, I started the game now!” Bai Feng waved dismissively. “Just make sure to loot Spirit Stones on the road, or we might not make it to the end with what we’ve got!”
“Don’t worry, I’ve been playing for ages; my skills are top-notch!” Little Jiu said proudly, tilting her little head.
At first, she looked a bit scared, slowly leaning back until she was fully resting against Bai Feng. He looked down at her trembling body, the gunfire reflected in her eyes. He gently tapped her head.
“See? When you’re gaming, don’t move around,” he said softly.
“Got it,” Little Jiu murmured softly.
Soon, they reached the final boss of Chapter One—a boss monster in the game.
This boss was a variation of the Tank from *Survival Road*, but Bai Feng added some extras to make it more interesting: a huge tiger with arms growing out of its back, a zombie with no facial features but only a humanoid shape, and a giant Nine-Tailed Fox, which resembled the remnants of three different Immortals Bai Feng had encountered—each corpse turned into a monster.
Today’s random boss was the zombie Nine-Tailed Fox. Unlike the elegant, charming Nine-Tails from the legends, this one’s fur was mostly gone, half of its body decayed, and its tail only a skeleton.
Suddenly, Little Jiu, who had been swaggering around confidently against the regular zombies, froze.
She quickly spun around and asked Bai Feng, “What the heck is that thing?!”
“Newly added boss, not bad, right?”
Little Jiu sneakily peeked at the monster, then hurriedly looked away, curling into Bai Feng’s arms. She still felt unsafe and swiftly unfastened Bai Feng’s robe, wrapping herself in his long robe for cover.
Bai Feng: “…?”
He looked at Little Jiu, pressed close to him with just her head peeking out at the screen, and gently stroked her head.
“Is this thing really so scary?” he asked.
“I- I didn’t like that disgusting stuff from the start,” Little Jiu muttered, annoyed. “And they made it into a Nine-Tails Fox?”
“Well, then, why play at all?”
“I quit. My character’s almost out of health anyway,” she pouted.
“Fine,” Bai Feng said, sighing.
He prepared for a solo zombie battle—without Little Jiu’s help—using his super skills, he managed to take down the zombie Nine-Tailed Fox and reach a safe spot.
“Want to keep going?”
Bai Feng looked down at Little Jiu, who had wrapped herself tightly in his robe.
“Keep playing!”
Little Jiu didn’t leave his robe. She reached out her tiny hand, grabbed the controller, and continued snuggling into Bai Feng’s arms to play.
After another ten minutes, Little Jiu saw another zombie Nine-Tails pop up on the screen. She promptly dropped the controller and shrank back into Bai Feng’s embrace again.
Bai Feng: “…”
“You keep going. I’ll rest a bit first!” Little Jiu whispered, hiding in his arms.
While Bai Feng fought the zombie Nine-Tails, Little Jiu peeked at his serious, focused face. She remembered how he had messed around with her during her previous gaming attempts and started feeling mischievous again.
Bai Feng looked down at Little Jiu, who was fidgeting—he knew she was up to something.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Nothing!” Little Jiu quickly pushed.
He chuckled silently, knowing he’d teach her a lesson first before returning to the game. He lowered his hand, reaching toward her.
“You’re cheating! You can’t pause the game just to attack me!” she protested loudly.
“What kind of rule is that?!” Bai Feng teased, smirking at her mischievous antics.
