What’s with all this noise?
There was a strange sound buzzing in my head that I couldn’t hear.
As I got up from my bed, I shook my head at the increasingly louder noise. It didn’t seem to be just my imagination.
‘A sound I can’t hear…’
I was puzzled if such a thing even existed, but here we are. What kind of principle is this? Is it similar to receiving a revelation from the gods?
I tidied my messy hair and moved towards the source of the sound. Based on the direction, it was clearly coming from downstairs. Maybe it’s a house that amplifies sound, making it easier to distinguish.
Well, it wasn’t anything important, just some unknown commotion not worth getting worked up over. How many people could be doing something like this in my house? Everyone here is like that, so I figured I could just walk down comfortably.
When I got downstairs, I could definitely catch the sound coming from one side.
That direction is…
“Must be Ji-hye’s place.”
As I pressed the doorbell out of curiosity, the noise suddenly stopped. Bingo~.
However, the person who appeared through the open door was someone unexpected.
“Oh, Se-hee unnie.”
“Yuri?”
What are you doing out there?
Yuri welcomed me with wide-open arms. This is Ji-hye’s house, right?
“I had dinner with Ji-hye unnie.”
“Oh, so the guitar sounds I heard earlier were from eating together?”
“Yes, did I wake you up?”
“It’s fine. I’m wide awake now.”
Well, I did wake up. But I figured there wasn’t any problem. I was already fully awake and feeling great.
As I flexed my arms to show I was fine, Yuri smiled gently.
“You’re really pretty. Make sure to smile more from now on.”
Yeah, it’s nice when you smile like that.
“Yes, um… Right…”
I think I mumbled something, but I didn’t catch the rest.
“Huh? What was that?”
“Nothing. It’s nothing.”
I turned to Yuri and pouted, but she just smiled back without answering.
Feeling a bit awkward, I shrugged and stepped into the inner room. Inside, Ji-hye was busy adjusting guitar strings, looking up and smiling as she welcomed me with open arms.
“Hey there~ Se-hee unnie.”
“Ji-hye! Thanks to you, I slept well. What’s that?”
In response to my question, Ji-hye shrugged and became serious.
“Oh, this is called sound magic.”
“Oh, what’s that?”
I’ve seen that in novels a lot. So this is what it’s like.
“I thought it would actually sound real, but it doesn’t.”
“Nope. That’s only a third-rate shouting style. True sound magic is more about engraving intent into the soul. It’s mostly used in healing, but can be used for various purposes. For example….”
– Ding ding.
As Ji-hye lightly strummed the strings, something strange happened. The ordinary sound of the guitar filled the room with a profound sense of fulfillment.
“This is great for mental stability. I can even perform surgery without anesthesia.”
“Oh wow.”
Seeing it up close felt like a choir of saints and holy maidens.
I didn’t expect a human could replicate the song made by the chosen ones; I knew Ji-hye was a hero from a martial arts world, but I didn’t expect her to show this side. Honestly, in martial arts stories, it’s usually all about stabbing each other in the belly, so these utility aspects often get neglected. I’ve never been to that world myself.
‘Interesting.’
Seeing this sparked a surprisingly good thought, and an involuntary smile appeared.
“Can you play any short piece with sound magic?”
“Of course.”
Soon, Ji-hye got into position, slowly twisting her wrist to strum the guitar strings.
With soft movements, the thin strings seemed to dance by themselves, creating waves of sound filling the room.
And then…
‘Is this how it feels?’
Once she began playing a full song, the air changed completely.
Powerful rhetoric can move people’s hearts, but this felt more like a kind of magic that transcended that.
When the performance ended, Ji-hye let out a light breath.
“How was it?”
If I focused hard on the sound magic, it might be difficult, but refining it just a bit could create a decent piece.
So, this answer just slipped out of me.
“Ji-hye!”
“Yeah?”
“Would you like to jam with me?”
“Huh?”
I’m technically a light hero capable of singing hymns that can rival a saint. The technical fusion of sound magic and sacred hymns. Isn’t that overwhelming?
“Eh?”
“Oh!”
The expressions that erupted from both of us were quite something to behold.
