**Chapter 15: The Pillar of Light of the Saint**
“Whoa!”
As the colossal mass of magic poured down like a waterfall, the vanguard significantly caved in.
Before the overwhelming force that continuously unleashed mana, no matter how sturdy the armor and shield, or how robust the stamina, they were utterly useless.
“Che.”
Even though it could be seen as gratifying to witness such a grand disaster, Dayoung couldn’t help but click her tongue in disapproval.
Sure, it was definitely a powerful blow, but against that monumental torrent, it was hardly anything more than a brief lull in the tempest.
She quickly retrieved a glass vial containing a blue liquid from her inventory.
This essence, a supply usable before the war, was a compensation provided by the system when outnumbered.
Selecting supplies focused on sustaining the fight among the myriad choices available turned out to be the right call.
Downing the mana-replenishing liquid in a single gulp, Dayoung analyzed the battlefield ahead.
“Too thick.”
Isn’t it better for a knife to be thin and sharp when cutting?
The frontline looked more like a bunch of hulking clubs, thick and dull, trying to slice through food.
Conscious of Friede’s overwhelming physical prowess, the heavy setup they pushed forward was rather hindering their progress.
“Too many shields set up.”
The thick armor and defenses were an extreme investment in stamina and toughness.
Often ridiculed as the turtle or tanky build, those who dedicated themselves to lying down in team play would indeed be tough to handle.
It was certainly not a bad choice against my sister. With an army like that, even she would eventually get worn down.
But…
“As long as I’m here…”
In Dayoung’s hand, the bizarre staff glimmered with radiant light particles swirling like a wave around the left arm of the traitor.
It looked as if the joints of bones were decaying and disappearing.
What seemed like an unimpressive and strange object was anything but, as the end of the staff gracefully traced patterns in the air like seals for casting.
“I won’t let you lay a finger on my sister!”
The absolute emotion filling her heart transformed into magical energy,
as the light gathered at the staff’s tip shot towards the sky like a soaring meteor.
A miracle—“Pillar of Light of the Saint.”
“――!”
“――!”
Amidst the countless shouts and bickering, signs of a swift retreat began to emerge. They knew too.
That if they lingered any longer, many of the tanks would be swept away again.
They attempted to escape in haste, but there was another hero armed with light and the Holy Sword who wouldn’t let them slip away.
“Whoah!”
An incredibly decisive strike, at odds with the thin shout, was delivered by Friede’s Holy Sword, slicing everything in its path.
The trajectory of light drawn by the sword remained like a line, akin to a horizon bisecting the sky and land beneath the sunset.
As the hulking frame collapsed from the fatal blow, uproar erupted among the remaining forces.
It wouldn’t be easy for those weighted down to extricate themselves from the tightly knit formation.
And… the sphere of light shot up by Dayoung spread wide, unleashing sharp pillars of light upon the P-tagging raid.
If a barrage of magic arrows turned into a rapid-fire volley of crossbow bolts…
—Boom!
The divine judgment of light raining down now boasted destruction likened to cataclysmic force.
Giving up all stats to focus solely on firepower, the amplification showcased formidable might.
Sturdy armor and robust stamina… were utterly useless before the overwhelming firepower.
The ground cracked beneath them, and its power was so incredible it would fling everyone nearby away.
* * *
“Damn it!”
Caught in the snare of Friede’s notorious ambush, they were paying the price for failing the optimization.
The P-tagging raid leader, recommended by the raid members, spat out curses at the scene unfolding before him.
The reason they structured the vanguard formations and formations heavily reliant on tanks was precisely to target Friede.
She displayed a level of expertise in single combat that surpassed common sense.
Moreover, considering the divine power she exhibited with the Supernova skill, nothing seemed likely to work except for a turtle strategy.
If Friede activated Supernova, she wouldn’t think twice about sacrificing twenty raid members for just 1% of her health.
But…
“Damn you, you bastards! What kind of magic is this?! This is total balance breaking! Nerf it!”
—Boom!
In an aerial magic strike, the Pillar of Light of the Saint saw dozens of tanks vanish without a trace.
Roughly ten perfect retirements were confirmed upon seeing Yudahee.
The remaining were still alive, but even from a distance, one could see the exhaustion evident in their stamina and health. It was practically an exit from the battle.
Conversely, Forming was leisurely chugging the essence like an elixir, reloading her magic.
“Damn it!”
Who would have thought the real MVP was not Friede but Forming?
While they thought Friede was contesting, she actually worked to slow the raid’s advance as much as possible, drawing attention.
Instead of threading through the formation, she continually worked to exhaust the frontline tanks, all while unleashing Forming’s overwhelming bombardment from a safe distance.
At this rate, they’d be completely ravaged by the monstrous firepower of Forming.
The raid leader furrowed his brows. Friede and Forming. No doubt, an impressive combination.
Friede, one could accept, but finding someone with even comparable magic control to Forming, even for a short duration, would be no easy task.
But…
“This time, it’s our turn to counterattack.”
Having just cast a major spell, there would be a gap before the next attack. While Friede worked to hold them back, no matter how strong she was, she couldn’t handle a multitude of hands.
“We just need to switch the focus from Friede to Forming.”
The raid leader organized a new ambush team consisting of the agile, waiting behind the tanks.
This was a matter of timing. To behead Forming before Friede could wipe out the ambush team.
“Go in now!”
“Yeah! I’ll deal with Friede and take down Forming!”
Hearing the ambush leader’s response, an unnecessary mischievousness sparked within him. This wasn’t a good sign.
“This isn’t good for anyone.”
“Look at you talking all big. Let’s roll! We’ve got this covered!”
“After this, let’s celebrate. I’ll take Forming’s head!”
“Yeehaw!”
With a fiery shout from the raid leader, the ambush team charged forward. It was a bit premature…
‘Gotta pull off the final blow here.’
From this point on, it was a battle of timing.
The raid leader signaled the main magic unit and archers at the rear.
Friede wouldn’t invade the main force. She’d do anything to save Forming, the core essential for victory.
Soon, nearly a hundred mages and archers advanced close to the tank line, aiming their targets.
“Fire!”
Arrows and magical bullets drenched Friede and Forming simultaneously.
* * *
“Ahh!”
“Ugh, it’s so noisy. And heavy. Don’t lean on me.”
Ajin’s desperate scream made it seem like Sehee and Dayoung were about to be buried alive.
Seeing Ajin bury her face behind her back, Jihae frowned.
If you can’t handle it, don’t watch, she thought, though her eyes remained glued to the screen.
As spectators, the heroes felt a sense of urgency; the situation was rapidly deteriorating.
While they blocked the ambush team, an onslaught of arrows and magical barrages rained down on her.
Dayoung attempted to intercept but struggled with the precision due to the approaching ambush team.
Well, as the results showed… out of all those magic and arrows, luck landed on one that pierced through, knocking Sehee to the ground.
Luckily, Dayoung managed to blink away, cradling Sehee.
“Ugh!”
Jihae, now lethargic, stretched as though this would be over soon.
‘Is this the end?’
Though she mused that, there wasn’t a hint of concern for her acquaintances’ defeat in Jihae’s eyes.
In fact, the one she referred to as ‘the end’ was, unbeknownst to Jihae, the attack team.
“It seems there’s almost a purpose to it.”
“Yeah. To activate that, we’d need to do some method acting.”
While they probably knew about it, they might believe they could win simply by outnumbering Dayoung.
But that was only when the two of them were apart.
“Combining powers isn’t just for robots.”
“Agreed.”
Ahin, feeling a sense of jealousy, puffed up her cheeks at Yoori, who nodded peacefully.
Being the youngest, Yoori exuded a vibe as if she was the eldest.
“Whoa—!”
* * *
“What’s your status?”
“A bit dizzy but okay.”
The slowly descending health gauge stabilized at 13%, and the dizziness from the groggy state faded.
She shook her head vigorously to regain her composure, absorbing the sight of the raid team rushing in for the finish.
The scene seemed desperate, as if they couldn’t afford to let this opportunity slip away, even from afar.
“Ahh—. My heart felt like it was dropping. But I made it just in time, right?”
“Yep.”
“Good. Well then… I guess we have to, right?”
Seeing Dayoung hesitating while looking perfectly fine, I smiled gently.
Of course, we had to do this. This was the ultimate combination I had been eagerly anticipating.
“Absolutely.”
“Ugh… Feels like I’m getting married today.”
Why is she bringing up marriage for that? I knew well that Dayoung was cute, and the whole world knew it.
On the contrary, I needed to ensure nobody snatches her away… Oh wait, I veered off-topic for a sec.
They’re already nearby. We better prepare quickly.
“Then, let’s go.”
“Yeah.”
With Dayoung’s response, she unleashed the Supernova.
Like the sun descending into this dark, desolate world, her body radiated brilliant light.
Confirming the skill had activated, I urged Dayoung beside me.
Dayoung was the first hero of our hero party. So quickly….
“Ride me.”
“Ugh! Give me a moment to brace myself….”
I wanted to do that too, but there’s no time.
“It’s fine. So hurry and hop on. To ride me is…”
I leaned toward Dayoung and whispered in her ear.
“…our blessing.”
With my gentle encouragement, Dayoung, having steadied her heart, climbed onto my back.
Holding the staff with one hand and gripping my neck tightly with the other, she was truly a big, adorable baby now.
The comfortable pressure of her legs wrapping around my waist felt just right.
The first hero, Friede, and the second hero, Forming.
The second phase against the twin hero boss was about to begin.
