Former Hero Streamer – Chapter 47

Discovering and broadcasting a new game is naturally a bit nerve-wracking.

Even with the boldest mindset, if it doesn’t meet the audience’s standards, the anxiety of the broadcast turning dull creeps in.

In that regard, this Stella Craft broadcast can be called a modest success.

The appearance of a new game infused fresh vigor into my broadcasting and gaming life.

How should I put it? I feel confident that I’ve finally moved on from just being a Soul Warfare one-trick pony.

Thanks to that, I could stream the following day’s ranked Soul Warfare games with enthusiasm while climbing to the Challenger tier.

“Here we go…!”

After finishing the fourth day of broadcasting, I stretched out and relaxed my taut muscles.

The remaining time should be a joyful holiday… or rather, I’d be busy sifting through editor applications.

I sent the day’s broadcast to Dayoung via email and logged into my YouTube channel.

“Is this enough to be considered a big company?”

No one was around to answer, but seeing the numbers in front of me just made that slip out.

About 300,000 subscribers on the YouTube channel. The Twitch channel had around 400,000 followers.

The highest views among the videos uploaded this week exceeded a million…

I’m not an expert in the streaming industry, but for just three days since I started, this growth seemed exceptional.

Outside of the legendary pro gamer’s streaming broadcast from the Legend Battle, I might just be unique in this regard.

‘Not that it matters.’

The two Stella Craft videos I did on day three.

Dressed with cheerful thumbnails, ironically managed to exceed the view count of my Soul Warfare broadcasts by more than 20% per video.

Is this the power of editing, or the latent strength of classic medieval games?

It’s not surprising at all.

“Editing, huh…”

I watched the Stella Craft video edited by Dayoung.

For sure… there’s something about viewing it from a third-person perspective.

Having streamed for quite a while, it was easy to watch because of the well-distributed time slots.

It must be because the tedious parts were boldly deleted.

Perhaps it’s due to the well-placed memes and comedic comments scattered throughout.

Even though the broadcast was long enough to split into two parts, I could somewhat feel why the views were good.

Is this really amateur work?

“Dayoung… I think it turned out great…”

They say that a proper editor could process it into something even more entertaining than this.

So, they strongly recommended finding a capable editor.

“Hmmm…”

I lightly tapped my fingers on the desk, caught in a whirlwind of emotions.

A sense of crisis? Or maybe tension? Impatience?

It swirled in my heart, unable to be defined by any one word.

At the very least, what’s clear is the resolve that this editor must thoroughly differentiate between the good and the bad.

Having experienced this, I felt that I couldn’t afford to casually choose the current editor.

The growth potential was just too absurd.

“Now that I think about it, should I check my emails?”

I had intentionally ignored them to focus on the broadcast, but since this week’s broadcast segment ended, it wouldn’t hurt to take a look.

The dedicated email linked to both my YouTube and Twitch channels: [email protected].

I thought I’d done a decent job promoting it, but I was quite curious about how many applications I’d received.

“…Ah.”

A slight dizziness hit me at the sight of the 1,394 emails in my inbox.

What’s this? Isn’t that a bit excessive for just three days? Are all these emails editor applications?

“Surely not.”

Even I thought that was a ludicrous notion, causing me to shake my head.

This was the email address I announced during my broadcast and posted on the YouTube channel.

There should definitely be some spam mixed in there. A lot of it too…

Just to be sure, I searched for “YouTube editor application” in the subject line, typing exactly what I’d broadcasted about the application notice.

What remained was 328 emails. The so-called filtered ones.

“Thank goodness I took Dayoung’s advice.”

She’d warned me that when collecting applications, always have a standardized form prepared.

Thanks to that, I could kick things off compactly.

The important question is whether I can actually sort out the gems among these videos.

“First, I’ll categorize the applicant emails…”

There might be some phishing spam mixed in among them.

Or who knows, maybe some adult content was sent as well.

Let’s put off sorting out the editing videos for later, and focus on filtering out the spam first.

* * *

“Well… it’s not like you can handle it all by yourself.”

“That’s why I called you.”

Dayoung shrugged her shoulders when we met in the MS Room.

It seemed she had anticipated this development, giving off a vibe of a seasoned pro.

“Usually, a well-prepared big streaming company would either hire a team for this or might even have a manager. It’s not the same as before.”

Definitely… it’s a bit much to do it all alone. I mean, I could manage it, but it wouldn’t meet the deadlines of the application notice.

I can’t even count how many times I got stuck during editing yesterday.

I had to verify if the submissions were proper fishing videos or legitimate applications without getting even a moment of rest after the broadcast, spending about 7 hours on it.

Those that were formatted correctly in the title had completely irrelevant content.

For example….

“[Can you show your face, sis?]”

“[Where do you live?]”

“[I recommend this game; want to duo?]”

All these strange messages, or…

“[Hello, I’m the team leader of the Old World Dog Poop team. Engage in heart exchanges through meetings with others to gain benefits. Number…]”

“[What brand of underwear do you usually wear?]”

“[What are your three sizes?]”

“[What’s your cup size?]”

“[I’ll show you mine, so why don’t you show yours?]”

All these creepy messages, or maybe ones like…

“Like Halkas, adult videos, body cams, disgusting images…”

The variety of horrifying content was so diverse that it was hard to list them all.

There were even emails ingeniously inserting themselves right in the middle of videos submitted for a portfolio, which was just sheer brilliance and nonsense.

What can I do? There are a lot of applicants, so I must accept my fate.

The principle of Garbage Preservation definitely exists for a reason.

“It was really tough for me. Yesterday’s me.”

If I hadn’t hardened my mind as a hero, I would have given up long ago due to extreme difficulty.

Because of that, it wasn’t easy at all to sift out the proper application emails.

“Did you filter down to 83 candidates?”

Dayoung tilted her head slightly while scanning through the list. Was there a problem?

“It’s been so little time since I started streaming, so surprisingly this isn’t a lot. I expected over 100.”

“The pure applicants exceeded 100. But even among them, some weren’t worth showing even to me.”

“Wow, if you’re saying that, they must have been just horrible candidates. Did they just shoot their shot anyway?”

Dayoung nodded along while saying “Of course.”

Thinking back, how did she manage to stick it out?

Before awakening as a hero, she was already an experienced streamer since high school.

With her cute and charming looks, I bet she attracted all sorts of malicious intents aimed at her.

From what she’s been talking about, it’s hard to tell whether she’s already brushed off those experiences or just didn’t care from the beginning.

No, let’s just focus on the matter at hand now.

“I changed my broadcast schedule for this week because I figured you’d do this, so let’s gather our strength and push forward.”

With Dayoung’s enthusiastic rallying, I hopped onto her carry bus as if following along.

“This effect is too strong. If this type of effect goes overboard, it can be toxic. Slash, slash.”

“The video distribution is good, but everything else is lackluster. Hold off.”

“What’s this? Why are there so many first-person views? How will the viewers find this fun? Can’t even get the flow of the video. Slash, slash.”

“Too suggestive in expression. Is there a chance this gets the broadcast canceled? Slash, slash.”

“This person has political bias, huh? Can’t allow that. Slash, slash.”

Are you making a death list?

With Dayoung’s ruthless cutting, I just kept my lips sealed and watched silently.

It wasn’t like I could comment; her standards were much higher than mine, and the videos she dismissed also had valid reasons for elimination.

I felt uneasy that she might cut them all, but still, she kept a few videos that she thought were alright.

And then it happened.

Had we reached the midpoint?

“Oh, this one’s not bad!”

In an unexpected moment where I wasn’t expecting much, I found a gem.

Dayoung even nodded in agreement.

“Right? This has been the best among the videos so far. It’s faithful to recent trends and memes, and the video distribution is excellent. The effects are understated but actually don’t interfere with immersion. And most importantly, it was made from your broadcast, which is a huge plus. The chemistry between streamers and editors is vital.”

Preparing a portfolio with the streamer’s video allows us to evaluate their chemistry even better.

Let’s see, the nickname is…

“Ahjin?”

“What’s that? Sounds like a loser.”

Is the “performing” part okay?

Swallowing what was about to slip out, I chose to remain silent. If I got upset over it, it would only make things harder for me.

Thus, through wrestling with the submissions over the weekend, we were able to select seven finalists.

* * *

“It’s lovely weather. Did everyone have a good weekend?”

[Whew~!]

[You seem lively today, sis!]

[Finally… finally something is coming!]

[Heart racing, heart racing, heart racing…!]

Receiving a fervent welcome from the viewers, Friede opened the curtains for the first broadcast of the week.

Today was particularly significant. This wasn’t just any game broadcast.

It was the opportunity to secure a new partner who would be responsible for the next few months, possibly even for life, of Friede’s broadcasts.

“I’ve already posted the announcement, but just in case there are those who don’t know, let me remind you again. Today is the time for announcing the finalists of the editor application contest.”

[There can’t possibly be someone who doesn’t know, right?]

[That’s exactly… you!]

[For real, lol.]

[What kind of absurd videos are waiting for us?]

[Editor must be a woman, editor must be a woman, editor must be a woman, editor must be a woman, editor must be a woman, editor must be a woman, editor must be a woman, editor must be a woman.]

[If a man is the editor, I won’t accept it. If a man is the editor, I won’t accept it. If a man is the editor, I won’t accept it. If a man is the editor, I won’t accept it. If a man is the editor, I won’t accept it.]

[What the heck, these crazy broth guys are starting again.]

[Sis, please manage your broth!]

The reaction was intense.

Well, contests, whether preliminary or final, are meant to be lively and should have that kind of spirited atmosphere.

“Alright, I’m going to start the announcement for the Friede Channel’s Galaxy Strongest Editor Contest…”

Let’s slowly start…
