Chapter 10: I’m Only Gentle with Alice (×)
Well, it’s not like cults are as common as cabbages! As a son of a border marquis, I’d say it’s actually harder to encounter one!
Setting the cult aside, Roy grabbed a pen and paper to jot down his life plan moving forward.
Goal one: turn the little maid into a heavenly angel. But raising someone takes time, so it needs to be a gradual process.
Goal two: make changes as soon as possible to shake off the ‘bad boy Roy’ vibe. Whether it’s training Alice, studying extraordinary theories, or inheriting the family, the moniker ‘bad boy’ is just a debuff. The urgent task is to wipe that debuff out quickly.
Um…
They say a good plan has three steps, but it feels like I’m missing something?
Extraordinary power can’t be rushed; as long as I follow the plot, dad will hand over the Blood and Iron magic potion.
And no need to worry about the cult for now.
Oh, right! I nearly forgot about those harem characters that belong to Alice in the original story!
Roy wrote down the final item on his list.
Goal three: keep a distance from Alice’s yuri harem.
After all, the original story is a yuri game, and the targets are all top-notch beauties, from princesses to legendary mages, all fierce contenders.
No matter which route I take, they’ll all team up to crush ‘bad boy Roy’ alongside Alice.
If possible, Roy doesn’t want to get entangled with those ‘targets.’
But honestly, there’s not much to worry about.
The official start of Angel Round Dance is still far off, way before those yuri harem characters even show up!
So goal three is nothing to fret about!
…Thinking about it like that makes me feel quite relaxed?
Roy’s gaze drifted to the not-so-distant ‘Homeland of the King.’
Sunshine, lounge chairs, tea, and little desserts.
Maybe I should just lie down for a bit?
Unfortunately, a polite knock at the door interrupted Roy’s lazy thoughts.
“What is it?”
“Master, Sister Anya sent me to bring you some snacks and tea.”
“No need…” Halfway through his sentence, Roy suddenly realized the visitor was none other than his little maid.
Others’ tea? Not acceptable.
Alice’s tea? Absolutely acceptable!
Roy hurried to the door and opened it for Alice, saying, “Come on in.”
The little maid pushed the snack cart into the room.
She caught sight of the desk piled high with books and was taken aback.
All the seniors in the marquisate told her that Roy was a good-for-nothing layabout.
What on earth were they talking about?
“Master, I hope I didn’t disturb you?”
“No, I was just getting thirsty. Oh, and please don’t be so formal, just call me ‘you.’”
“Understood.”
Alice nodded while starting to tidy up the desk covered in books.
Having previously worked at a bar, the maid moved quickly and efficiently, as evidenced by how she cleaned up the dining table this morning.
But facing a desk full of heavy, gold-edged, and expensive books, she hesitated, afraid of damaging them and not knowing where to start.
Seeing her struggle, Roy stepped in to help and casually piled the books to the side.
The little maid flustered, exclaimed, “Master?! How can I trouble you to do this…?”
“It’s fine, just a small effort.” Roy quickly stacked the books aside, smiling as he added, “Didn’t I say to just call me ‘you’?”
The sunlight poured in through the window, illuminating the gentle demeanor of the young man, causing Alice to momentarily lose focus.
Indeed, the Master is very gentle.
What on earth were those seniors saying? The Master clearly loves learning and treats others kindly, completely contrary to what they said.
“Alice?”
“!”
“Sorry, I zoned out!”
Alice snapped back to reality, biting her lip in self-reproach for her inattentiveness.
She began brewing Roy some black tea and serving him freshly baked pastries from the kitchen.
Yet, to Roy’s surprise, he didn’t touch them.
Having tea and pastries right after breakfast is a habit of a certain useless young master, and he wasn’t hungry.
Roy’s intention wasn’t really for the tea.
He wouldn’t miss a single opportunity to boost affection!
“Alice, you should sit down too. It’s pretty boring having tea alone.”
Alice’s eyes lit up for an instant, but she quickly reined it in, “Ah? But… I’m just a maid; I’m not worthy to sit with the Master.”
Anya had told her that maids have to follow the rules.
There’s a hierarchy of master and servant, which is just how it is.
Roy noticed all of this.
So he rephrased, “What’s there to be afraid of? It’s just you and me here.”
“Consider it a task from the Master, how about that?”
“……I understand.”
Alice gracefully pressed her lace-trimmed maid’s dress and elegantly sat down across from Roy.
Even though the girl was no longer afraid like she was last night, sitting face to face with Roy still made her a bit stiff, her body tense, like a doll that wouldn’t move, staring intently at Roy.
But Roy had already noticed her swallow nervously for what must have been the umpteenth time.
Alice’s closest experience to dessert was the holy candy distributed by the Holy Light Church during festivals—sounds fancy, but it’s really just diluted maltose.
Even though she had never tasted anything like a cheese cake, the rich aroma of cheese and the alluring scent of sweets had already stirred her appetite.
Roy couldn’t help but chuckle at the girl’s dazed look.
“Do you want to try some?”
Roy offered her a slice of cheese cake.
Alice barely managed to suppress her desire, cautiously asking, “Is it really okay?”
“Of course.”
With Roy’s permission, Alice picked up her knife and fork.
Her movement was a bit awkward as she carefully cut a small piece and placed it between her delicate lips.
In an instant, the soft, creamy, and sweet flavors melded into a symphony that delighted her taste buds, dancing between her lips and teeth.
Alice squinted her eyes while holding the fork, exuding a wholesome aura.
Roy suddenly imagined that if Alice were a golden retriever puppy, she would be wagging her tail joyfully at this moment.
Oh dear, just watching this adorable child makes me feel like I could eat three bowls of rice!
Having just finished breakfast, Roy cut himself a big piece of cake and shoved it into his mouth.
Basking in the warm sunlight, the master and maid enjoyed this soft, smooth, and sweet moment together.
Once the cake was gone and they set their utensils down, Alice sighed, “Master, you really are a good person.”
Roy nearly choked on his tea.
What a sudden, blunt good person card!
“Why is it that the Master is so kind, yet everyone at the marquisate speaks ill of you?” Alice pouted, her small fists clenched on the table, showing her displeasure.
“Because I’m only this gentle with Alice.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because Alice is special to me.” Roy stared directly at the golden-haired girl, softly murmuring.
Alice momentarily froze.
A gentle breeze wafted through the window, stirring up ripples of warmth in the girl’s heart.
