Chapter 124: Dragon Slaying
The old man turned around, casting his gaze deeper into the tomb behind him.
“Follow me, old fool; there lies the power you seek.”
Roy entered the tomb’s depths under the old man’s guidance.
The room was dim and ancient, with walls adorned by narrative murals. These murals depicted the legendary exploits of Siegfried that Roy had witnessed.
At the center of the tomb was not a coffin but a sword standing upright.
The sword’s sheath was made of dark golden dragon scales, with ancient dragon motifs engraved on it. The hilt was sculpted to resemble the wildly dancing wings of a dragon. Even though it had not been unsheathed and had been sealed away for countless years, the immense power contained within had not waned; just looking at it made one’s heart race.
Roy recognized it at a glance.
This was the very sword Siegfried used to slay the False Dragon, Fafnir—the Dragon Slayer Sword, Balmunk!
Legend had it that this sword was forged from the bones of the Dragon King, Bahamut, harnessing the true power of a dragon king, capable of splitting the heavens and shattering the sky. It was undoubtedly the artifact of the world!
That was the power Roy desperately desired.
But just as he stepped forward, the old man’s words halted him.
“When you accept this power, you will bear the responsibilities and fate that come with it.”
“Youngster, even witnessing Siegfried’s fate, will you still choose this path?”
“You and Siegfried are different; he had nothing but the princess. But you still have a way out. You have a loving family, sufficient power, and even another soulmate. As the son of a marquis, you needn’t bear this fate.”
Roy turned around and saw a hint of scrutiny in the old man’s eyes.
Roy smiled slightly: “You misunderstand. I don’t want to follow in Siegfried’s footsteps. I’m not ready to die yet.”
The old man’s vertical pupils narrowed momentarily, becoming incredibly cold.
But in the next instant, Roy wiped away his smile, looking intently into those piercing eyes, steadfast and determined: “My ending will be decided by me.”
The old man was slightly taken aback, stunned.
In a daze, he seemed to see that day again, the knight standing before him.
Their eyes flickered with a similar determination. The difference was that the knight from back then was resolved to face death, while the current young boy’s eyes shone with a brighter light, stirring emotions in the old man’s heart that had long been sealed by time.
Roy stepped forward again, slowly extending his hand to grasp the sword’s hilt.
Behind him, the old man finally showed a hint of a warm smile.
“I, the Dragon King, Bahamut, hereby acknowledge you as the descendant of the former king. Follow the blood contract and receive my true blessing!”
In the next moment, accompanied by a distant and ancient dragon’s roar, the sword was drawn from its sheath.

Time and space, once stagnant, began to flow again.
One of Roy’s eyes transformed into a majestic golden slit, and in his hand coalesced a long sword seemingly forged from dark golden crystals!
The night sky trembled, swirling clouds billowed, and a dark golden storm raged fiercely, celebrating the return of the Dragon King’s power!
The Crimson Blood Fire Dragon, just about to lunge, suddenly halted, feeling as if its heart was being squeezed tight, its breath almost stifling!
How could it possibly forget that sword?!
Thousands of years ago, in the First Era, a tiny human wielded that very sword to slay its kin!
What weighed heavier than the deep-rooted hatred and fury was the fear engraved deep within its soul!
The Crimson Blood Fire Dragon flapped its wings with all its might, desperate to flee.
It gathered every ounce of remaining power to unleash the strongest blow on the once-despised young boy.
【Dragon Breath: Annihilation】!
The night was lit in its entirety.
Scarlet cataclysmic flames accompanied by the dragon’s roar surged down, becoming a terrifying torrent far more dreadful than molten lava, as if a calamity to end the world!
But Roy raised the long sword fearlessly, charging forth!
Even as a projection, this sword held the power of the Dragon King, drenched in the blood of the False Dragon.
The moment Roy unsheathed the sword, a violent force surged into him, almost causing his entire being to unravel.
This power was beyond what he could currently withstand.
He would have only one strike, perhaps just a fleeting moment.
If that were the case, he would gamble everything on that one strike!
Facing the endless torrent of flames, facing the nearly world-ending dragon breath, the young boy raised his sword, roaring as he slashed forward!
【False Dragon Breath: Celestial Vault】!
His golden eyes erupted in brilliant light.
A roar more dignified, older, and unstoppable than that of the fire dragon emanated from the sword!
With a single slash, dark golden torrents of power surged forth, unleashed from the might of the Dragon King.
In an instant, behind the boy, a dark golden dragon phantom seemed to stretch its wings towards the heavens!
The Crimson Blood Fire Dragon could hardly be mistaken?!
In this world, only one dragon’s might could suppress it, the Dragon King, Bahamut!
The violent dragon flames quivered beneath the torrent of dark golden light!
In the next moment, the dark golden slash, like a crescent moon, cleaved through the flames, piercing straight through the Crimson Blood Fire Dragon’s breath, shattering the once-inevitable dragon!
The world turned dark for a moment.
The terrifying light at the volcano’s peak exploded, turning the world into daylight, as if the very heavens had fallen at that strike.
A mushroom cloud slowly rose from the volcano.
Charlotte, along with the royal griffins and the knights in the distance, were swept away by the frenzied winds.
Forget about vegetation; even the very surface of the earth was uprooted around the volcano.
After an unknown amount of time, the dazzling light gradually faded, and the world finally fell quiet again.
Roy, like the shattered projection of the sword in his hand, came apart, blood pouring uncontrollably from his body, turning him into a blood-soaked figure.
No wonder.
Heaven knows the power needed to slay a dragon—whatever the sequence number—it certainly wasn’t something a mere sequence 9 mortal could endure.
Just surviving was already astonishing.
A weak warm breeze brushed by, and he felt as if lead was weighing him down, unable to support himself any longer as he fell backward.
Ah, I’m so tired.
Finally, I can rest—
However, instead of the hard ground, what awaited him was a warm, soft embrace.
“Roy, you…”
Charlotte opened her mouth and, seeing the boy covered in wounds, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Roy had intended to offer some words of comfort, but the moment he opened his mouth, blood just spilled out uncontrollably.
That only made Charlotte cry out even louder.
Roy struggled to move his lips, panicked.
No, don’t just cry!
I think I can still manage to hold on!
Though his injuries looked terrifying, Roy was aware of his condition; timely bandaging should be manageable.
At that moment, however, an immense sound erupted from the volcano’s mouth.
Are you kidding? Still alive after taking that hit?!
But when Roy looked up, he found the Crimson Blood Fire Dragon looking worse than himself.
The fire dragon had been gravely injured to begin with, but now its body was nearly cleaved in two, with scales shattered and falling away, its heart an excruciating mess of blood.
The dragon’s powerful life force still allowed it to cling to life, but it could not save it.
The wounds laid bare were numerous, and molten lava kept flooding into its insides, a torture beyond compare compared to cutting flesh with a dull knife.
It roared, struggled, but ultimately began to fade away into the depths of the lava.
In the moment before disappearing into the magma, its vengeful golden-red slit fixed fiercely on Roy, releasing a final, unwilling roar.
Roy felt a tremor deep within his soul.
“Blood of the False King! You’re doomed!”
“I have already marked your soul! My kin will remember this hatred, and your soul will be utterly annihilated for my revenge, never-ending…!”
Watching the fire dragon fully sink into the volcano, Roy couldn’t help but laugh, even as blood filled his mouth, he couldn’t stop.
Whatever the future held.
At least for this moment, the fire dragon was dead.
He had won.
