Chapter 132: I Miss You So Much
“Tonight, Vanilla specifically said that they want to stay in their own room.”
Who could that be?
Knights follow the rule of being prepared for anything, while Adventurers are always alert, never trusting good luck.
Based on these lessons, Alice became cautious, quietly summoning a short sword made of Holy Light, then kicked open the door and lunged towards the silhouette inside!
“Alice…?!”
“Huh?”
Just as her sword was about to strike, Alice caught a glimpse of the person’s face and hurriedly retracted her Holy Light, but it was too late to stop her momentum.
She crashed straight into Roy, knocking him to the ground.
Alice was the first to react, scrambling to get off Roy in a panic.
“I’m sorry, Master! I didn’t know it was you!”
The Girl, flustered, frantically checked to make sure Roy wasn’t hurt before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
Then, she expressed her confusion: “Why is the Master in Alice’s room?”
“That question should be flipped,” Roy, still on the ground, propped himself up slightly. “Why are you hiding from me?”
The dimly lit room fell into silence, and Alice’s steady breathing became chaotic.
Her light blue eyes shifted nervously.
“I’m not, I didn’t…”
Roy looked troubled: “Did I upset you somehow?”
Roy had never seen Alice as just a servant to be ordered around, nor did he want to force her into anything; he considered himself quite understanding.
That’s why he couldn’t grasp Alice’s actions.
“If I’ve done something you dislike, you can tell me at any time.”
His somewhat wronged sentiment sparked a pang in Alice’s heart.
She immediately looked up at Roy, raising her voice unusually, “Of course not!”
“Alice would never hate her Master!”
Hearing this, Roy relaxed a bit, but he was even more puzzled.
“If you don’t dislike me, then why are you avoiding me?”
“I…”
Faced with the second question, Alice fell silent again.
As time ticked by, Alice lowered her head, her eyes downcast, lips pressed together, looking like a pitiful child being scolded.
Seeing her in such distress, Roy’s heart softened.
How did he end up feeling like a bully?
Alice was a person, not an object he could do whatever he wanted with.
Perhaps she had her own reasons that made it inconvenient to speak; he shouldn’t push her.
He sighed.
“Fine, if you don’t want to say, then don’t.”
“Huh?” A trace of surprise flashed in Alice’s eyes.
“It’s my fault; everyone has their own secrets. If you don’t want to share, I shouldn’t force you.”
Seeing Roy getting up, Alice quickly rushed to help him stand.
To her surprise, Roy showed neither anger nor dissatisfaction, smiling gently as usual, his dark eyes filled only with pure concern.
Her Master was always so gentle.
“I didn’t mean anything else, just wanted to see how you’ve been lately; after all, it’s hard to get this chance.”
“I heard you’ve been busy; working hard is good, but don’t overdo it. If you wear yourself out, it won’t be worth it.”
“And since you came to the capital, it’d be nice to rest a bit and call Chocolate and the others to hang out too.”
His warm words flowed like a gentle stream, yet they filled Alice with guilt.
For a moment, she wanted to spill everything out.
But when she opened her mouth, nothing came out.
“It’s getting late; you should rest early.”
Roy reached out, as usual, to pat the Girl’s head, then turned to leave.
Alice never understood why he did that before, but now she felt incredibly reluctant, cherishing that brief moment of tenderness.
The moonlight was so faint, and just as she was about to lose sight of Roy’s lonely back in the night, Alice couldn’t hold back anymore; she reached out, carefully but firmly grabbing his sleeve.
“Because I don’t want to be a bother to my Master.”
Roy halted.
“Master, you seem so happy with Princess Charlotte; I don’t want to interfere with you two.”
“As a maid, Alice should always support her Master.”
Alice kept her head down, her ethereal voice growing weaker in the darkness.
“But Alice is a bad child.”
“Even though I know my Master likes Princess Charlotte, seeing you so happy with her makes Alice… feel so hurt and bitter, like I can’t breathe…”
Even if her voice was as faint as a whisper, every word felt like it took all her strength.
In the end, Alice’s voice dwindled to silence, and she shut her eyes, drained and frustrated.
What a selfish girl she was.
She had already received so much from her Master, yet she still longed for more of the time he spent with Princess Charlotte.
Her Master must hate such a bad child.
However, what she heard next was a helpless chuckle.
“Did you misunderstand something?”
“When did I ever say you would bother me?”
Alice trembled slightly and opened her eyes.
“Charlotte is Charlotte, and Alice is Alice. You’re different. I won’t neglect you because of Charlotte; it’s not even a matter of bothering.”
In Roy’s heart, there had never been a hierarchy between the two.
He only realized he had overlooked Alice’s feelings, making this thoughtful Girl feel such torment.
Roy gently held onto her small hand that clutched his sleeve, turned around, knelt down, and looked into her wet light blue eyes, warmly saying, “And besides, I miss you.”
Alice’s cheeks flushed, and her moist gaze sparkled with more brilliance than the moonlight.
“Really?” The Girl couldn’t help but question.
What responded to her was a firm tone: “Really! If I can’t see Alice, I can’t eat well, sleep well; your figure fills my mind.”
“Even when you’re with Princess Charlotte?”
“You are you, and she is she. Even with Charlotte around, I still think of you.”
Roy used the gentlest tone to assure her: “So, you don’t have to hold back anymore.”
Nothing could make Alice happier than knowing Roy missed her.
Under the moonlight, the Girl’s expression grew misty as she nodded vigorously, then suddenly lunged forward, arms wide open, enveloping him in a hug, her small body sinking into that long-awaited embrace.
It was as if she had seized the most precious treasure in the world, unwilling to let go.
The ambiguous and tender words softly flowed from within the embrace: “Master, Alice misses you so much too.”
Roy wrapped his arms around his little maid, lovingly ruffling her fluffy head, a tender smile spreading across his lips.
Their figures overlapped in the hazy moonlight until the brilliant lights of the palace gradually faded away, leaving them in thoughtful silence.
