Chapter 137: Tea First or Pastry First
Charlotte raised her head slightly, looking down at the maid in front of her with a mixture of pride and disdain. “I want what I want. I’ve changed my mind and want to spend some time with Roy. Do you have a problem with that?”
Being of extraordinary lineage, the Extraordinary Beings of the Lionheart bloodline always had an air of arrogance about them.
Even though she reined it in when she was around Roy, Princess Charlotte’s pride was indelible.
From the standpoint of social hierarchy, Alice had no grounds to challenge her, so she fell into silence.
Seizing the moment, Princess Charlotte launched a counterattack. “Besides, your so-called companionship means sharing a bed with your own master? As a maid, isn’t that a bit disrespectful?”
However, the little maid wasn’t as weak as she appeared.
She had already yielded quite a lot to the red-haired princess, but now this girl was interrupting her rare alone time with her master and even questioning her duty as a maid!
“On the contrary, Your Highness.” Alice calmly countered, “As a maid, my heart and body have long belonged to my master. Serving him like this is only natural.”
“And…” Alice deliberately paused, letting a trace of calmness add a touch of elegance, reminding, “This is precisely what my master requested.”
The once domineering princess was thrown off-guard.
Charlotte glared at Roy, her voice rising in irritation. “Hey! Did you seriously ask her to share a bed with you?!”
“No, no, no! Didn’t I just explain? I only asked Alice to help me find a book!” Roy waved his hands in denial.
“Exactly, just finding a book. Why are you so anxious, Your Highness?” Alice gazed at Charlotte’s flustered expression, a hint of calm amusement flickering in her eyes.
“You…”
Realizing she had been outmaneuvered, Charlotte bit her teeth in frustration.
She recognized that the girl before her, though a maid, held no fear or respect for her, maintaining only superficial politeness.
This little blonde was more troublesome than she anticipated!
Charlotte felt an added wariness towards Alice.
As the atmosphere between the two grew increasingly tense, Roy was left utterly bewildered.
In the original story, these two were partners, quickly overcoming minor misunderstandings to become close allies.
So why, upon their first meeting now, did they radiate an explosive tension that didn’t exist in the original? What’s with this drama?
Regardless, one was a princess to whom he pledged loyalty, and the other was his devoted maid—and potentially part of a team to fight against the Cult. Roy valued both of them greatly.
If possible, he hoped their relationship could be a bit better.
“Charlotte, personally, I’m glad you came.”
Being addressed by her name made Charlotte’s neck tense up, her fiery spirit diminishing considerably.
Alice noticed this and her gaze dimmed slightly.
Sensing this, Roy turned to Alice with a sigh, “Of course, I hope Alice can stay too.”
Instantly looking up, Alice’s eyes sparkled with joy.
“I previously mistreated this girl, so I said I’d spend more time with her. Surely, Charlotte can understand that?” Roy smiled at Charlotte again.
Going back and forth, both of them let go of their tempers and softened their attitudes considerably.
Charlotte’s tone became milder. “I understand. It’s not that I’m against a bit of closeness between you two; I’m not that unreasonable.”
Through this interaction, Charlotte figured out Alice’s status in Roy’s heart was extremely high. Being too forceful would only backfire.
Meanwhile, Alice sweetly added, “Everything is as my master wishes.”
Even though she was quite annoyed at being interrupted, Alice always prioritized Roy’s wishes. Moreover, she truly felt she had no way to handle a mere princess.
Noticing the atmosphere ease, Roy clapped his hands with satisfaction, and together with the two girls, enjoyed the exquisite snacks Charlotte had brought for an early afternoon tea.
“The royal chef made too many pastries, so I just brought some along. How is it?” Charlotte feigned indifference as usual.
The delicate box held fragrant, dainty pastries that looked so delightful.
Did the royal chef really make an excess? Were these pastries brought casually but arranged so precisely, still wafting an irresistible warmth?
Even though Roy wasn’t a fan of sweets, the scent of the baked goods piqued his appetite. He picked up a vanilla cream puff and popped it into his mouth, revealing a look of joy.
The sweetness paired with the delightful creamy vanilla flavor was just to Roy’s liking.
“This tastes great. Thanks for bringing it.”
“Like I said, it was just something I casually brought… But I’m glad you like it.” Charlotte huffed bashfully, while her gaze on Roy sparkled with sweetness that was even more tempting than the pastries.
Alice’s eyes suddenly turned cold.
But she quickly suppressed that chill and naturally leaned in, using her slender finger to wipe the cream from Roy’s mouth and casually popped it into her own in front of Charlotte.
“It’s really so sweet,” the little maid squinted her eyes in appreciation.
“Oh come on, if you want some, just take it. Charlotte wouldn’t mind,” Roy chuckled helplessly, ruffling the girl’s fluffy hair with affection.
Witnessing this, Charlotte couldn’t help but twitch her lips.
“Roy, you look a bit inconvenient, so let me feed you.”
With that, Charlotte speared a piece of cake and held it out to Roy.
“I’m not inconvenient at all…”
“Hmm? You rebellious subject, I’m feeding you directly, and you still make excuses to refuse?” The girl’s gaze turned steely, revealing a hint of menace.
Under her piercing stare, Roy shivered and instinctively opened his mouth to accept the pastry.
“Now that’s more like it~” Charlotte smiled with satisfaction as she withdrew the fork, then, facing Alice, grabbed another piece of cake with the same fork and popped it into her mouth, savoring it almost boastfully.
Alice trembled slightly, visibly annoyed.
“Master, let me pour you some tea!”
“Roy, try this cookie too!”
“Hey, you got cream on the corner of your mouth!”
“Oh dear, now you even have cream on your face.”
At first, Roy was enjoying the attention from both of them, but after several exchanges, he found himself overwhelmed.
“By the way, Miss Alice, don’t you think you’re pouring too much tea?”
“It’s you who’s feeding him so many pastries; he’s going to get thirsty.”
“Only Roy himself can answer such things meaningfully, right?”
“Agreed.”
Unable to convince each other, the two girls finally turned in unison to Roy.
“Roy / Master…”
“Do you drink tea first, or eat pastries first?!”
In the simultaneous questioning from the two girls, Roy’s expression turned troubled.
He didn’t want tea or pastries right now.
After all this feeding, all he really wanted to do was… go take care of business…
