Chapter 42: You Are Not Worthy
Roy and his party took their seats under Douglas’s guidance.
Across from them sat Yana, wearing a mischievous grin.
Alice was fine, maintaining her usual neutral expression, but Nia shot a wide-eyed glare at Yana, initiating a silent showdown.
As soon as they sat down, the atmosphere shifted to one of barely concealed tension.
That is, until Douglas spoke up.
“Mr. Roy, I’ll skip the pleasantries.”
“You’re probably aware, my cousin Yana Shanik, your maid Alice, and your…”
Roy calmly interjected, “Friend.”
Douglas nodded slightly, “And this friend of yours.”
“There seems to be some misunderstandings between them, but since we’re all classmates of elevated status, there’s really no need for violence. We can resolve our issues like civilized people.”
Roy nodded slightly, “I strongly agree.”
Nia, however, was sulking with her legs crossed, clearly dissatisfied.
As the First Daughter of the Verdant Council, she held the highest rank at the table, yet she couldn’t tolerate the noble’s pretenses, rendering her unhelpful in situations like this.
To her, Douglas’s claim of not resorting to violence was utterly hypocritical, especially with so many Extraordinary Beings present, their auras not even suppressed.
Yana, having anticipated this outcome, gleefully remarked, “It’s enough that Mr. Roy agrees.”
“I’ll help everyone recall the events that transpired.”
“I initially wanted to befriend Alice, but encountered her inexplicable anger, not to mention Nia’s fury—thus I had no choice but to retaliate. I hope both of you can sincerely apologize and give me an explanation.”
As soon as those words left her mouth, Nia’s temper flared.
Nia didn’t bother with fancy words; she shot a direct glare at Yana, “Hey, are you just going to spout lies in front of all these people? You’re the one who bullied Alice first, and you’ve got the nerve to say otherwise!”
The blonde flicked her fan and, with an exaggerated smile, replied, “You say I bullied Alice, but who actually saw it? On my side, I have six witnesses to back me up.”
Nia was left dumbfounded.
What six witnesses? They’re clearly just your six sycophants!
You can’t just twist the truth like that!
The elven girl puffed out her cheeks in frustration, barely managing to keep her forced smile from cracking.
“Alright, fine, even if you have witnesses, what do you say about your disruption in my dorm?”
Yana blinked innocently, pretending to be ignorant, “What are you talking about?”
“Still trying to wriggle out of it? Your people snuck into my dorm last night, planning to cause chaos! If I hadn’t returned in time, who knows what you would’ve done!” Nia’s voice rose in anger.
If it was just aimed at her, that would be one thing, but the fact that they were targeting her friend made her furious.
Nia hated the kind of cowardly tactics that dragged others into conflict.
Yet Yana narrowed her eyes again and said coolly, “What a pity.”
“But this matter has nothing to do with me. Those individuals aren’t from the Kingdom of Goldsand, nor do I have any acquaintance with them. If you don’t believe me, feel free to check.”
Nia paused, genuinely unsure how to respond. Finally, she snapped, “You clearly directed them to do that!”
“Not necessarily; maybe they just couldn’t stand certain people meddling,” Yana replied with a cold smile.
“You… whatever, it’s pointless arguing with a shameless ugly girl like you.” Halfway through her sentence, Nia stopped arguing and shot a disdainful glance at her.
Yana’s smile vanished: “Bitch, who are you calling ugly?!”
“Whoever matches the description, of course~”
Yana’s expression twisted with fury: “You!”
Nia then pointed at her across the table, squinting and grinning widely: “Oh ho, someone’s getting anxious!”
In the battle of twisting the truth and bullying others, Yana was experienced.
But when it came to arguing, Nia, who grew up in adventurers’ taverns, was on a whole different level.
“Yana, that’s enough.”
“Nia, let’s leave it here for now.”
Seeing Yana’s increasingly dark expression, her Extraordinary aura unwittingly leaking out, Douglas sighed helplessly and finally managed to get her to suppress her chaotic energy.
Nia was initially displeased with Roy’s interruption, but then she felt a nudge at her fingertips. Glancing down, she saw Roy giving her a thumbs up, signaling his approval, which brightened her mood a bit.
After a moment of heavy breathing, Yana finally composed herself and looked at Roy and the others with a scheming smile: “Let me be straightforward.”
“I demand that Alice and Nia apologize to me in front of the entire class.”
“Furthermore, I want Roy to join me for dinner.”
At these words, Alice and Nia’s faces fell.
Given Yana’s reputation as a heartless flirt, it wasn’t hard to guess the true meaning behind the “dinner.”
This had crossed Alice’s line.
The blonde girl suddenly shot a fleeting murderous glare at Yana.
That sharp glare was more piercing than any blade, causing Yana to recoil slightly, leaning back instinctively.
She felt like a sheep being targeted by a hunting dog!
Despite being Sequence 8, that aura was no joke.
Douglas was taken aback, frowning slightly.
Multiple Sequence 8s in the room began to release their aura to exert pressure, yet Alice remained unfazed, her focus still locked on Yana.
Until Roy discreetly squeezed Alice’s hand under the table.
The girl felt a jolt, like a switch had been flipped; her expression softened, and she reverted to being the obedient, docile maid.
Everyone present, including Douglas, found this scene utterly bewildering.
But now it was Nia’s turn to be unable to sit still.
“Are you kidding? There’s no way you can dream of that happening!” Nia vehemently rejected it, then turned anxiously to Roy: “Roy, let’s not worry about us for now. You better watch out for yourself.”
In the purely innocent and conservative view of the elven child, purity outweighed everything, regardless of gender. Even though Nia’s character was an exception among her kin, on this point, she was no different from her peers.
This was also the reason she treated Roy poorly when she misjudged him as a lecher, and why she couldn’t tolerate the thought of Roy being sullied now.
“Don’t worry, I’m not interested in women like her,” Roy reassured, which eased Nia’s worry a little.
Yana’s expression twitched, and she smirked in anger: “Oh, you really think you have the right to refuse?”
Faced with Yana’s barefaced lust and disdain, the black-haired boy helplessly shook his head.
“Let’s wrap up the opening remarks.”
“What?”
“Yana Shanik, do you truly believe that your foolish, vulgar, and rude comments are worthy of this negotiation? If you keep talking, you’ll belittle the status of everyone present.”
Roy ignored the woman’s ashen face and turned to Douglas.
“Senior, it’s about time we get to the main topic.”
