Chapter 63: What a Coincidence
Since sending Nia off, the master has been acting a bit off.
His head lowered, eyes serious, expression blank, an inexplicable cold air surrounding him.
Alice, while quickly and clearly cleaning the dishes, was silently pondering in her heart.
At dinner just now, the two had been chatting and laughing about the day’s funny incidents.
You could tell they had a great time.
So, the master must be feeling lonely without Nia, right?
Even after spending a whole day with her, he’s still not satisfied?
Thinking this way, Alice felt a little sour inside.
After finishing the dishes, the blonde girl brought Roy a cup of hot tea.
“Thank you.” Roy replied faintly, but didn’t drink the tea.
He was still pondering about the reversal of命节点.
Only a few seconds later, when he caught sight of that pure white skirt and delicate bare legs still lingering, did he realize, lifting his head to ask, “Is there something?”
Alice shook her head, concern showing on her face: “Alice is fine. But master, are you really okay?”
Alice comforted herself with her logic: “After the practical exam, you’ll see Nia again soon. If you’re lonely, just endure it with Alice for a bit.”
Saying this, the girl sat next to Roy, the faint scent of iris wafting over, slightly calming Roy’s mood.
He touched his stiff face and let out a bitter smile.
It seemed he was too tense, even Alice noticed something amiss.
Though the little guy’s thought process was not quite right, her words were a bit off too.
“You misunderstand; I was just thinking about the practical exam.” He brushed it off, then took the initiative to change the subject, completely diverting Alice’s attention: “Actually, I owe Alice an apology. I haven’t spent time with you these past couple of days, making you feel lonely, right?”
Roy’s face showed a hint of regret: “I’m sorry.”
“No, Alice doesn’t…”
The girl slightly shook her head, looking a bit flustered, but when Roy gently placed his hand on her fluffy head, her stubborn attitude softened like she couldn’t refuse, and she fell silent.
Silence meant agreement.
As Roy patted the little maid’s head, he promised, “Don’t worry, after the practical exam, I’ll make time to spend with Alice.”
“Really?” The light in her light blue eyes suddenly brightened.
Then she cautiously asked, “Just you and Alice together?”
“Just you and me.” Roy smiled slightly.
After getting a confirmed answer, Alice’s eyes squinted even softer, resembling a fluffy golden cotton candy.
“Master, can I hug you?”
“Of course.” Roy suppressed the joy in his tone as much as possible.
Or rather, it was a warm welcome!
Roy held onto his principles; he believed those who actively hugged little girls were perverts.
But this was something she wanted to do! Quite reasonable and lawful!
Alice opened her arms and gently flung herself onto Roy, her little face completely buried in his chest, rubbing slightly and letting out a little satisfied hum.
Roy affectionately stroked that fluffy little head, treasuring the little maid’s hard-won affection, feeling his heart healed by the soft, fragrant, fluffy creature in his embrace.
After a while, as Alice’s breathing slowed and she grew a bit sleepy, Roy reluctantly released her.
After exchanging goodnights and returning to his room, Roy lay in bed, reorganizing his emotions, pondering the reversal of命节点.
His time with Nia had been so ordinary and warm that he had almost forgotten the cruel entanglement of fate between them.
Even if Nia herself bore no ill will, the reversal of命节点 still posed a serious threat.
He had to admit he was a bit scared.
Charlotte back then could be said to be carefree, or maybe it was true that ignorance brings courage.
But now it was different.
Whether it was Nia or Alice, he was no longer a solitary soul from another world, nor a useless scion, but Roy Ainbrad who had things to care about.
Choosing the wrong step meant paying not just with his own life.
At the moment the reversal of命节点 is triggered, he wasn’t thinking about how he would die; he was thinking about how those who cared for him would feel after his death.
However, because of this, he certainly couldn’t just sit and wait.
He could be afraid, but he mustn’t lose his calm.
For this reason, every decision had to be made cautiously.
First off, he could rule out any hostility from Nia.
Currently, Nia had no reason to antagonize him, but without a doubt, the reversal of命节点 was still tied to her.
Just like Leo was to Charlotte, Nia might not even know the dangers lurking around her.
But there were still some clues in the original work.
In Nia’s route, she sustained heavy injuries during the practical exam and had to trouble Alice to take care of her. It was during those day and night care sessions that deep feelings grew beyond friendship between them.
The original work didn’t provide a detailed description of Nia’s practical exam, after all, it was still just a yuri galgame.
Roy only remembered that it seemed related to a thief group.
Nia being injured during an adventure didn’t seem to present any danger to himself at first glance.
But Leo’s incident gave him ample lessons; if he didn’t reverse the命节点, even if there were no immediate threats, it could lead to irreparable consequences, bringing catastrophic disasters in the future.
This matter couldn’t be left to chance; he had to go alongside Nia for the practical exam.
Coincidentally, this way, he didn’t have to get tangled up between Nia and Alice, which might just be the only silver lining that came with the reversal of命节点.
However, before setting off, he had to handle some other issues.
The reversal of命节点 took priority; since he was going to accompany Nia for the practical exam, the matter of collecting the False King’s evidence had to wait.
The next day, Roy requested a day off again, appearing in the guild as the Sword Demon, but received an unexpected piece of news.
“Lord [Sword Demon], I was just about to inform you! There’s news about the Blood Clan task you wanted!”
“In the dark marshes of the south, an abandoned ancient castle was discovered, and investigations suggest it could be the dwelling of a vampire!”
Unbelievable, just when fortune doesn’t come alone, disaster doesn’t part!
The original work mentioned that adventurers found a rare treasure from the Blood Clan ruins, its value surpassing the Adventurers’ Guild’s estimates, causing quite a stir.
Nia was able to escape the thief group thanks to that treasure drawing their attention away.
In Roy’s view, this item was likely the evidence of the False King.
Having finally got news about what could be the evidence of the False King, he would have to give it up. It was hard for Roy not to feel gloomy.
However, priorities must be set; he couldn’t delay the reversal of命节点.
Just as Roy was about to decline, the lady behind the counter said, “But this task is expected to be used for the practical exam of students from the Magic Academy…”
“If you’re going to take the task, you’ll have to be responsible for the academy’s students.”
The higher-ranked adventurers were less willing to babysit students; young people were normally hard to manage, and if noble kids were involved, any mishaps could easily bring trouble from the nobles—heartbroken parents typically don’t take reasoning well, and nobles are generally hard to deal with. Hence, this thankless job was often dubbed ‘crap’ by many adventurers privately.
The problem was this was the rule above, and the counter girl couldn’t do anything about it.
“What are the names of the students participating in this task?”
“Let me check, Nia Lily, and Roy Ainbrad.”
A few seconds of silence.
Just as the counter girl thought the other side was about to blow up, curling up nervously, her heart almost stopping from anxiety, she suddenly heard Roy let out a faint hum, a hint of an inexplicable smile lurking beneath.
“… I’ll take this task.”
