Chapter 75: The Black Claw
Nia immediately reacted with a sinking feeling upon hearing the words.
The Blood Clan’s treasure, the Bloodstone. No wonder the Black Claw was taking action himself; they had long set their sights on that thing!
The Bloodstone was in Roy’s possession. Once they learned he had it, they certainly wouldn’t let him go easily!
Nia’s eyes trembled, and this fleeting change in her expression was precisely captured by Andy.
Andy chuckled, “You really do know where that thing is.”
“What thing? The Blood Clan’s treasure? Are you out of your mind? You seriously believe the nonsense of a Cult?” Nia retorted with a scoff.
Andy had no intention of bantering. He twirled a dagger as he slowly approached her.
“It won’t help to play dumb. Our thief guild has plenty of ways to pry the truth from your lips.”
“Oh, but don’t worry. I’ll spare your life. After all, you and my brother have quite a few personal grudges to settle.”
Nia paused for a moment and then suddenly realized, smirking coldly, “Is it that Angus? Aren’t you supposed to call him ‘brother’ now?”
At her words, Andy’s gaze turned icy, and an extraordinary wave surged like a fierce wind, stirring dust and debris all around.
Andy was cold and heartless toward his subordinates, yet he cherished his own brother and wouldn’t tolerate even the slightest humiliation toward him.
Understanding this, the thieves sneaked back, waiting to see the spectacle, while the adventurers grew even more tense.
“Kid! Don’t provoke him! Just run now! We’ll buy you some time,” Reid shouted, propping himself up and spitting blood.
However, Nia shook her head, smiling brightly, “I can’t run.”
Under the astonished gazes of the adventurers, she boldly stepped toward Black Claw Andy, slowly walking out of the ancient castle ruins.
If it weren’t for her speed as Sequence 7, she would have been confident in her escape, but her opponent was clearly not that much slower than her. Turning her back to such a strong enemy would lead to an easy defeat. Fighting to the death seemed to give her a glimmer of hope.
Moreover, that guy had set his sights on Roy.
From that moment on, Nia developed a murderous intent toward the leader of this group of thieves.
It was better to deal with him here than to let him hunt down Roy!
Seeing him approach decisively, Andy couldn’t help but sneer, “Foolish woman.”
“Wow, a grand thief guild leader only knows how to talk big to a little girl? You’re as pathetic as your sister~” Nia unrepentantly mocked with a sweet voice.
Andy’s brow furrowed, yet he hesitated.
Of course, he wasn’t afraid of a Sequence 8 girl, but the fact that she dared to walk up so boldly indicated she had some hidden trump card.
Was it some extraordinary item or a magical potion?
Or perhaps, a strong ally was yet to take action?!
Previously, Andy had already learned that the Sword Demon was also eyeing the Blood Clan’s treasure, yet he hadn’t shown himself. A dagger hidden in the darkness was more terrifying than a blade exposed in the light. Andy had refrained from attacking immediately due to concerns about the Sword Demon‘s presence.
Now that Nia had the courage to confront him, it made Andy question once more if the Sword Demon was nearby.
But just as Andy pondered, the wind started to move.
To be precise, Nia moved.
With a swift strike of her silver short sword wrapped in sarcasm, a flash like lightning occurred in an instant.
Andy widened his eyes in shock, quickly retreating to narrowly avoid the stunning blow.
A shallow cut appeared on the fabric around his neck!
“Tch!”
Nia swiftly followed up with another strike, but this time Andy managed to block it with his dagger just in time.
The brief clash left everyone on both sides in shock.
The thieves had followed Andy for years and knew well how swift he was. Even Sequence 7 rarely had opponents who could take the initiative against him.
But that little girl actually pulled it off?!
The adventurers were even more astonished. Reid, fighting for his life, barely managed to repel Black Claw, while Nia almost succeeded on her first strike, shattering their previous assumptions about Sequence 8.
Perhaps she really stood a chance against Black Claw Andy!
But the most astonished was still Andy himself.
His silver bloodline came from the Black Claw Panther, inheriting a unique footwork technique called Shadow Step, granting him incredible speed.
He had indeed been somewhat careless, but the fact that she could close in on him so fast indicated she might possess a golden bloodline!
Every golden bloodline had the resources of a force invested in them, providing limitless potential for the future, while those of them who didn’t come from nobility or the church struggled to advance to the next level.
This was the reason Andy craved the Blood Clan’s treasure.
Thinking of this, jealousy rose in Andy’s heart, quickly replaced by a cruel smile.
“Ah, I see. If given time, you probably would venture farther along the path of the extraordinary than me.”
“Unfortunately, you won’t get that chance!”
This time, Andy took the initiative to attack, shadows swirling at his feet, his footwork ghostly as he rapidly closed the distance to Nia.
His dagger slashed at a diagonal angle, and Nia swiftly drew her sword to block but was thrown off balance by the tremendous force.
Without giving her a moment to catch her breath, a second dagger fell like an icicle from above, forcing Nia to parry upward.
In the darkness, one figure moved like a ghost, while the other danced with the wind, graceful as a soaring swallow.
Adventurers and thieves raised their bows and arrows, trying to attack each other’s enemies, but they couldn’t lock onto either figure’s movement. All they could see were shadows clashing, short swords and daggers crossing each other in an unending shower of sparks.
Under the enhancement of Wind Walker, Nia’s speed was even slightly superior. However, as time passed and the battles continued, her breathing began to grow erratic first.
Any extraordinary ability required extraordinary power to back it up, and in a prolonged fight, being a level lower was an insurmountable disadvantage.
And in sheer strength, Andy definitely had the upper hand.
Every dodge made Nia’s legs feel heavier, and every clash of blades sent painful shocks through her hands. Several times, she almost couldn’t hold on, but thinking of Roy’s safety pushed her to endure.
Andy obviously still had some energy left, but he was far from relaxed.
After several clashes, his black steel dagger bore more and more nicks from the shimmering edge of Nia’s mithril short sword.
Nia wouldn’t let that opportunity slip by.
Once again, she attacked fiercely, channeling her last ounce of strength to activate her bloodline power.
Concealing her presence and boosting her speed were elements of Wind Walker’s manipulation of the wind, but this time, Nia gathered all the wind into her sword blade.
With a clear ring of the sword, Nia pierced through the wind’s afterimage and swung down fiercely.
The dagger that was meant to block shattered in an instant.
Got it!
Filled with joy, Nia followed up with her last stab, but just then, Andy let out a derisive snort.
“Woman, you’re still too young.”
Andy firmly grabbed Nia’s wrist as she came in with her upward stab, then he kicked hard, hitting her at the waist.
Nia felt as if struck by a heavy hammer, and with this tide of force, she was sent flying, spewing blood in midair, her body falling into the ruin like a broken kite.
Even if Nia’s speed could barely match his, everything else—strength, experience, technique—was all far superior in the hands of Black Claw Andy!
The adventurers rushed in to help, but a swarm of thieves shoved them back with ease.
Caught by a direct hit from a Sequence 7, Nia lay among the rubble, her vision turning dark. She could hardly move.
Straining to lift her head, she reached for her fallen short sword, only to see a boot kick away the gift Roy had given her.
“It’s over, woman.”
The pitch-black dagger fell mercilessly alongside his mocking laughter.
