Chapter 24: The Rich Kid Goes Shopping
“This is just the right time for a market in the city. Young Master can go stroll around, consider it a little relaxation.”
“I’m not that tired…”
Before Roy could finish, Anya gave him a knowing look and subtly glanced at Alice.
Roy got the hint.
Anya really knows me.
Going out shopping together—what a perfect opportunity to boost rapport!
Feeling excited, Roy turned to the little maid: “Alice, how about it? Wanna join me for a stroll?”
Alice’s eyes flickered for a moment but then quickly calmed: “Oh? But isn’t the Master supposed to focus on training for the magic potion?”
“Don’t worry, no rush for just a day or two.”
Roy’s training was going smoothly; in fact, his Carrying Capacity had already reached Intermediate and he could take the magic potion now.
Most aristocratic youngsters didn’t have panels to clearly see their physical carrying capacity; they could only guess at it, and everyone wanted to become Extraordinary Beings as soon as possible to show off. So, they were all eager to drink the magic potion as early as they could.
However, to maximize the magic potion’s effectiveness, Roy wanted to push his Carrying Capacity to High.
So, he wasn’t in a hurry at all; he could spare time to take Alice shopping.
“Well, are you coming or not?” Roy asked again.
“Of course. As a maid, it’s only natural to accompany the Master.” Alice’s tone was calm, but her light blue eyes sparkled with expectation.
“Since you want to have some fun…” Carl rummaged through his clothes for a while before finding a card and handed it to Roy.
“What is this?”
“A magic crystal card, black-gold level. Perfect for you to spend.”
Roy’s hand trembled slightly as he took the card.
The magic crystal card was similar to a bank card from the past, but black-gold level cards were exclusive to the wealthiest nobles and heirs, with their minimum savings far exceeding what minor nobles could manage.
A black-gold magic crystal card not only represented immense wealth but also signified identity and status.
By giving Roy this card, Carl was implicitly acknowledging him as his heir.
Carl showed a benevolent smile typical of an elder: “I didn’t give it to you before to prevent you from wasting money. Now you can use it freely.”
“Thank you, Father!”
This time, Roy’s gratitude was heartfelt.
——————————————
Early the next morning, Roy set out with Alice from the lord’s mansion.
The nearest city to the lord’s residence, and also the most vibrant, was Mufeng City. Over a decade ago, Mufeng City was not developed and had limited resources, but due to its flat terrain and proximity to a water source on the border, it attracted many adventurers and mercenaries.
With adventurers and mercenaries came a wealth of riches.
Now, Mufeng City had become quite prosperous, filled with various stalls along the roads. The well-paved concrete streets were tidy and appealing, and although the buildings were not grand, they were numerous and uniquely diverse. There were various mercenaries, adventurers, and even nobles riding rare beasts captured from the border, wandering casually along the streets.
Since it was just a personal outing, Roy didn’t select any rare magical beasts but instead chose a common fire horse to pull the carriage. This horse, while strong and fiery, was pretty standard, commonly used by nobles of the Lionheart Kingdom.
However, the bright red sword and shield insignia emblazoned on the carriage was enough to make the mercenaries, adventurers, and even the luxurious noble carriages on the road yield the way.
The nobles in this world wielded absolute extraordinary power, and in the Lionheart Kingdom, the Iron Blood bloodline ranked among the strongest.
Although the Ainbrad family had significantly declined, with only Carl Ainbrad remaining as a high-tier extraordinary being, the Iron Blood legacy was still viewed with respect.
Roy initially worried that the display of aristocracy would unsettle Alice, who came from a common background.
However, Alice simply stated, “Isn’t it natural for people to yield to their Master?” This left Roy both amused and bewildered.
He knew that the more people revered the Iron Blood, the more they secretly mocked their infamous “wasteful young master.”
But all of that didn’t matter; what mattered was winning Alice’s favor!
Meanwhile, Alice secretly watched as her Master gazed excitedly out the window and made a silent resolution.
Since the Master seldom had the chance to relax, she needed to fulfill her duties as a maid responsibly.
As his personal maid, accompanying him and ensuring his happiness was part of her job!
However, as soon as they stepped off the carriage, Alice found herself dizzy amidst the bustling street.
“Master, where should we go next?”
“Well…”
Roy didn’t particularly care about shopping; since this was to win Alice’s favor, he let her decide.
“Is there anywhere you’d like to go, Alice? You should be familiar with Mufeng City, right?”
Alice had lived in Mufeng City all her life.
However, she casually replied, “I was always locked up in the tavern, and the owner didn’t let us go out freely.”
“After that, I was sold to a human trafficker.”
Hearing the girl describe her dark and grim past with such calm, Roy’s smile froze.
An awkward silence fell over them.
Today is not the day for this conversation!
But Roy quickly perked up: “In that case, I’ll take the lead!”
He stroked his chin and squinted at the little maid in front of him: “First, we need to change your clothes!”
Not sure where to take a girl shopping?
Even Roy, the ultimate clueless guy, knew that all girls love pretty little dresses!
To his surprise, Alice, ever so straightforward, shot back, “Why doesn’t the Master just change at home?”
Roy was left speechless, blushing slightly: “Uh, I meant for you to change.”
Alice looked down at her maid dress, utterly clueless about what was off.
“Why? Is there any need?”
“I… sigh, look, just come with me, okay?!”
Roy nearly forgot that this girl was the ironclad fortress of cluelessness, unable to grasp even the simplest hints in Angel’s Waltz.
Looks like earning her favor will be a long uphill battle.
Roy led Alice away from the commoners’ stalls and straight to the luxury shopping district aimed at the nobles.
In this sea of low-rise buildings, a street paved with red bricks appeared before them.
The foot traffic here was much lighter, with only elegantly dressed people passing by.
Roy found a clothing store, and as soon as he entered, a beautiful shop assistant greeted him with a smile.
“Welcome—Oh!”
Despite the slight awkwardness that crossed her face when she saw Roy, her excellent professionalism (survival instinct) kicked in, and she managed to keep smiling.
“Young Master Ainbrad, how may I assist you today?”
“Buy her some clothes,” Roy pointed at Alice.
The golden-haired little maid stepped forward and nodded, offering a greeting.
At the sight of Alice, the shop assistant’s eyes instantly lit up, and her attitude did a complete 180.
“Please follow me!”
