Chapter 123: Charlotte Must Be Elegant
“Roy has woken up?”
Inside the Lionheart Mansion, Charlotte’s eyes lit up immediately upon hearing this news from the messenger of the Green Assembly.
The little maid beside her was equally thrilled about her master’s awakening.
But the next piece of news was not so pleasant.
“Mr. Roy is still very weak and cannot meet anyone at the moment. He sent a message saying that he will return when he recovers, so please don’t worry, and just continue as usual.” The trained messenger recited the lines Nia had prepared, without so much as a blush.
Charlotte suppressed her restless heart, knowing that a certain little maid would ask the questions for her.
Alice confirmed repeatedly, “Can’t we at least see him?”
“That’s what Mr. Roy said. Please rest assured, the Green Assembly will take good care of him.”
“Oh… I see…”
Alice’s face fell slightly but she still nodded obediently, softly saying, “In that case, I will endure.”
As it was her master’s wish, the maid should be obedient.
Charlotte’s lips twitched slightly.
With Alice being so compliant, if she threw a tantrum, wouldn’t that make her seem unreasonable?
But as she mulled over the messenger’s words, something felt off to Charlotte.
This didn’t sound like something Roy would say.
Since he was awake, he should at least be able to meet someone.
Especially when someone is sick and weak—their soul is fragile, and they long for companionship.
Forget herself, Roy was quite attached to his little maid.
Charlotte’s gaze inadvertently swept over to the maid.
Alice had an inherently healing aura that she couldn’t help but respect. Plus, she had been Roy’s dedicated maid for a long time, cherished by him. With Roy’s personality, he should have at least called for Alice.
Unless someone stopped him.
But that made no sense.
If anything, Roy was the benefactor of that nightingale; the Green Assembly had no reason to…
“By the way, is Nia doing alright?” Alice inquired about her good friend’s well-being.
“Miss Nia is not…,” the messenger started but recalled Nia’s instruction, quickly changing their words, “Miss Nia is also resting and cannot meet anyone either.”
Now, the Lionheart princess finally realized something was amiss.
She crossed her legs, tapping her fingertips on the armrest, glancing at the messenger with a low voice, “So you’re saying the nightingale and Roy are both resting, and neither can meet anyone, right?”
Facing the beautiful and intimidating crimson eyes, the young messenger couldn’t help but break a cold sweat.
“Well, um, they’re both affected by the miasma and need time to recover…”
“But most others affected by the miasma have mostly recovered. Plus, I remember Roy’s vitality was impaired—what about your nightingale?”
Under the princess’s increasingly chilling questioning, the messenger’s expression finally froze.
The fire in the hearth crackled softly, casting a faint shadow on the princess’s profile.
But in the end, she merely smiled.
“I see, you can go back now.”
The messenger of the Green Assembly felt as if they had received a pardon, hastily bowing before fleeing the scene like escaping from a lion that could pounce at any moment.
After he left, Charlotte’s expression finally turned completely somber.
Since Roy became her pledged knight, she hadn’t worried about someone taking advantage of their situation in a long time.
In actuality, she didn’t think any ordinary woman would catch Roy’s eye.
But the Nightingale of the Elven Forest was one of the few competitors that made her feel vigilant.
Although they hadn’t exchanged many words, that outstanding appearance left quite an impression on Charlotte.
Especially that chest… it was practically a weapon for enticing young men from both families!
Now, she seriously suspected this woman had ulterior motives for Roy!
Charlotte took a sip of her red tea, repressing her unease while gathering information from Alice.
“Alice, you have a good relationship with the nightingale. Can you tell me what kind of person she is?”
Alice thought for a moment, her eyes shining with wisdom, and absentmindedly said, “Nia is very pretty, has a big chest, and her hair is green. She has a plump figure but isn’t fat at all; rather, she’s very toned.”
Even though she was drinking red tea, Charlotte wore a face that could be mistaken for having just drunk bitter coffee.
Seriously, could I not see that?! Why not mention she has two eyes and a mouth too?!
Realizing Alice was a bit off track, Charlotte had to change the subject.
“Ahem, I meant to ask about her relationship with Roy.”
“What about it?”
“I mean, what do they usually do together?”
Now Alice finally hit the nail on the head.
“Master and Nia go on adventures together, go on dates, and are always chatting and laughing. Oh, once, Nia had something happen and cried a lot one rainy night. Master personally went to bring her back…”
Halfway through, Alice suddenly recalled the following day when Roy and Nia were intimately touching in bed. For some reason, her heart ached slightly, causing her words to trail off.
Even so, this was shocking enough for Charlotte.
The princess took another sip of tea.
The hand holding the teacup was trembling slightly.
She could barely set the cup down, releasing a deep breath.
So all this time, these two had silently built so many stories?! Why was she just finding out now?!
Adventures? Dates? He actually went out in the rain to bring her back? Isn’t that a perfect romantic drama unfolding?! Next, parents will come to intervene, they’ll overcome challenges together, and sparks will fly!
This was not just dubious intentions; they were practically about to seal the deal!
Speaking of which, it would be one thing if she weren’t by Roy’s side, but why would something like this happen with Alice watching?!
Charlotte felt a headache coming on.
She wished she could charge out right now and rescue Roy.
But the truth was, the healing Roy needed wasn’t fake.
If only the Green Assembly could save Roy, she couldn’t let her personal feelings get in the way of his recovery.
Moreover, as the Lionheart princess, casually entering a foreign embassy might cause a diplomatic incident.
Tch, that elven green tea must’ve foreseen this, bringing Roy back to the embassy on purpose!
Caught in this situation, Charlotte didn’t dare act rashly.
Besides, in moments like these, whoever acts first seemed incompetent and passive.
Men usually prefer weak women; if she got angry at Nia, it might trigger Roy’s protective instincts for her—which would truly be a loss—just like those protagonists in romance novels that always end up on the losing side!
Stay calm, stay calm, be elegant!
She wasn’t fighting alone! Her best helper was right in front of her!
Charlotte turned seriously to the blonde girl across from her, “Alice, I need you to do me a favor.”
“Tonight, please be sure to meet Roy.”
