Chapter 134: The Senior’s Visit
In the early morning, Roy took a sip of coffee brewed by the little maid, gazing out at the warm blue sky and fluffy white clouds, feeling a bit hazy.
Even after a few days had passed, recalling that night still gave Roy a feeling of having survived a disaster.
The dispute between the two girls was suppressed by their respective forces.
Fortunately, he had thought to use the little maid as a shield back then; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
But ultimately, this was just a temporary fix—dodging for a moment wouldn’t mean dodging for a lifetime.
Roy knew well that the two girls would never let it go.
When someone is furious, it’s hard to persuade them, especially since he was the source of their anger.
So, to avoid provoking them these past few days, Roy had stayed home.
Although his injuries had mostly healed, he was still riding out the sick leave.
One word: wait!
Wait for them to cool off a bit before discussing things calmly; there was no rush beforehand.
Out of some strange mutual understanding, neither girl came to visit Roy during these days, which he was happy about.
However, he didn’t expect that after a few days, the first visitor would neither be Charlotte nor Nia.
It was instead the third prince of the Golden Sands Kingdom and the leader of one of the three factions at the academy, Douglas.
At this moment, this tall, robust prince, dressed in opulent attire, sat across from Roy.
“Roy, I’m glad to see you’ve recovered. I’m here specially on behalf of the Golden Sands faction, as well as the other students you saved during the Trial of Blue.”
“Senior, you’re too kind. Helping each other is what classmates do, and in the end, it was the rangers and the teachers who really saved everyone.”
Douglas smirked slightly, noncommittal.
Even though the academy kept Roy’s battle against the Cultist and the Trial of Blue confidential, just the fact that a young boy defeated a cult priest, helped his classmates regroup, and led everyone to counterattack the cult was enough to earn the respect of the prince from Golden Sands.
Putting aside past grievances and not fearing dangers.
With his endless tricks and unfathomable strength, it was hard for Douglas, as a prince, not to admire such talent.
As for the previous minor conflict…
Having been accustomed to power struggles, the prince knew there are no permanent enemies.
Not to mention, they’re all classmates who’ve gone through life and death together, fighting the cult.
Now that the real instigator, Ayana, was gone, what was there left to worry about?
However, under his senior’s inexplicably fervent gaze, Roy couldn’t help but tense up a bit, feeling on guard.
“So, senior, what are those…” Roy said, glancing at the mountain of carts filled with gold, silver, jewels, and rare herbs.
Douglas smiled lightly, quite casually: “Those are the tokens of gratitude from the nobles you saved, along with a little personal gift from me.”
Nearly half of the carts bore the royal crest of the golden desert.
Although Roy wasn’t exactly strapped for cash, it was mainly because he didn’t have huge expenditures like other nobles.
But in front of a big shot like Douglas, it all paled in comparison.
The seven major powers of Veszyra were all enriched by the Golden Sands Kingdom’s vast gold mines.
To put it simply, ordinary rich folks have a mine at home, while Douglas’s family might as well live in one.
If counted, the money in Roy’s account might only amount to what would fill one of Douglas’s carts…
Douglas’s warmth only made Roy feel increasingly uneasy.
Why did it feel like a domineering CEO pampering his little girlfriend?
Still, it was rude to refuse such gifts.
“However, I feel like this little gift shouldn’t matter to you, Roy.”
Such a humble-bragging statement left Roy speechless.
“Unfortunately, in our Golden Sands Kingdom, aside from gold and silver, the only thing we can bring to the table is our forging skills.”
Douglas smiled: “So, if you need to forge some suitable extraordinary weapons, I can help you contact the masters at the Platinum Workshop headquarters.”
Roy’s eyes lit up briefly, then he restrained his excitement and hesitated: “Uh, senior, isn’t that a bit over the top?”
“The gratitude from the trial is already sufficient; I wouldn’t want to trouble you more.”
Unlike the convenient and diverse extraordinary items, extraordinary weapons are uniquely crafted tools for combat.
Only the dwarves possess the skills to forge such weapons, as this technical ability is part of their extraordinary prowess and cannot be shared with others.
The weapons produced by the Platinum Workshop are all treasures, and those forged by their masters are even more priceless.
Expensive, powerful, and rare.
Even for Douglas, obtaining such a high-grade extraordinary weapon would likely come at a considerable cost.
Douglas appeared to anticipate Roy’s refusal, grinning heartily.
“Exactly, so this isn’t a gift. Just think of it as me wanting to make a friend.”
You better mean it.
Roy thought to himself, while outwardly maintaining a friendly smile: “Well, thank you very much, senior.”
In the original story, the Golden Sands faction and Douglas were depicted as somewhat neutral and slightly antagonistic, so Roy hadn’t intended to have much interaction with them.
But making friends wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Let’s not mention Douglas’s orientation; having one more friend was definitely better than having one more enemy.
Especially since he was the one reaching out first.
In fact, during the trial, Douglas performed quite well as an ally.
Had it not been for him leading other classmates to distract the cultist guards, he and Nia wouldn’t have easily approached the center of the Fallen Tree Sea’s barrier.
Moreover, Douglas might have a chance at inheriting the throne of the Golden Sands Kingdom, so cultivating a good relationship now was definitely a smart move.
Having wrapped up the main topic, Douglas obviously relaxed, and the conversation shifted to casual chit-chat.
After learning that Douglas had an fiancée back home, Roy finally felt a bit relieved.
In this relaxed atmosphere, Roy couldn’t help but tease: “Your fiancée must be a cultured and graceful beauty; I’m a little envious.”
Douglas’s expression grew slightly complicated, hesitating to respond: “I won’t deny she’s beautiful, but as for being cultured and graceful…”
“Enough about me, what about you?”
Roy was slightly taken aback.
“It seems you have a close relationship with both the Lionheart Princess and the Nightingale lady,” Douglas joked.
“Uh…”
Douglas’s expression turned knowing: “Looks like you have your own troubles.”
“However, the end-of-term banquet is coming up soon; it’s best to decide on your date sooner than later.”
“Wait, date? Banquet?” Roy’s mind was suddenly flooded with a bad premonition.
Douglas inquired oddly: “What’s up?”
“It’s normal for guys to attend the end-of-term banquet with a female companion, isn’t it? Plus, as a top four contestant in the Trial of Blue, you’re the main character!”
He subtly glanced at the silent maid beside him.
Though she was still young and petite, hardly making a presence, there was no doubt she was a beauty in the making.
The prince from Golden Sands said meaningfully: “The debate over who you’ll choose as your date has been quite a hot topic at the academy these past few days; even I have a bit of interest in it.”
