Chapter 17: Dance of the Sword
The Holy Knight is the toughest existence within the Holy Light lineage, and the pride of the Holy Light Church, a true sword and shield.
Karman had once witnessed a high priest battling a Holy Knight on the Eastern Continent.
Under the Holy Light, the terrifying scene of bones turning to ash embedded a deep fear in Karman’s heart.
That cold gaze, expressionless, surrounded by a chilling aura, looked like a being untouched by the bloodshed, so similar to those ruthless Holy Knights!
But Karman quickly snapped back to reality.
No, what Holy Knight? That’s just a little Sequence 8 wannabe!
For Extraordinary Beings under the Holy Light, one only divides into specific bloodlines like Holy Knights and Priests when reaching mid-tier.
This little punk is at best just a kid with a bit of Holy Knight talent!
Unlike those blessed by the true god, this kid can’t break the shackles of their pathetic mortal body!
Karman regained his confidence and mocked, “What a joke. A mere Sequence 8 thinks he can come here and die in front of me.”
Alice paused for a moment and corrected him, “Alice isn’t here to die.”
“Alice is not a believer, just following her master’s orders to take your life, that’s all.”
Her calm tone and the steady gaze as if looking at a corpse sent a slight shiver down Karman’s spine.
But that moment of hesitation was quickly replaced with disdain.
Karman cracked a bloodless smile and sneered, “So, you aren’t even a believer—just a loyal dog from a noble family, huh?”
Upon closer inspection, what’s with that outfit? A knitted top and a short skirt—are you someone’s little girlfriend?
Sure, the Holy Light is a handful, but without systematic teachings from the Holy Light Church, how much power can she even wield?
But the next thing she said threw Karman off completely.
The girl hesitated for a moment and replied, “Thank you for the compliment?”
Karman fell silent for a beat and then shouted angrily, “I’m not complimenting you!”
“Are you not?” Alice was taken aback.
“That’s called sarcasm! I’m mocking you for being a dog…” Karman’s gaze caught a quaking actor in the corner, reminding him of the well-known tragedy “Gray Maid,” and he suddenly burst into laughter, his eyes on Alice now mixed with teasing and pity.
“Poor little thing, probably just a pet for some noble young master; you’ve become a dog begging for your master’s favor. You’ll end up just like the Gray Maid.”
“Let me bring you bliss and help you forget the troubles of the mortal world!”
The army of undead on stage discarded the half-dead Extraordinary Beings and, like clockwork dolls, surged toward the girl in unison.
Although she was curious about the fate mentioned earlier, it didn’t affect the girl’s movements in the slightest.
As the corrupted corpses charged at her, the girl took a resounding step forward, her sword slicing through the air, cleaving her enemy open.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a skeletal spear, but she remained calm, grabbing the shaft and countering with her sword, decapitating the skeleton soldier.
A skeletal knight in bone armor led the charge, dragging its massive sword, accelerating toward the girl like lightning.
The skeletal knight was equivalent to a Sequence 9 Extraordinary Being!
The Extraordinary Beings in the distance were taken aback, but before they could warn her, Alice suddenly pivoted and threw out her silver blade.
The rapidly approaching skeletal knight clashed with the silver light, and after a few paces, it shattered into a pile of bones, igniting and burning away in the halo beside the girl.
The gathered Extraordinary Beings exchanged glances.
Turns out, this maid is no ordinary opponent; it’s no wonder that Black-Haired Boy believed she could handle the Cultists!
Undaunted by death, the skeletal remains and corpses charged one after another but fell like flies before the exquisite swordplay of the girl.
Even though she was only Sequence 8, the output of Holy Light far exceeded the ordinary with the Seraph ability already showing its might. Meanwhile, her proficiency with the sword ensured Alice’s technique was flawless.
The Holy Light blade was relentless, and Alice’s extraordinary swordsmanship turned this deadly weapon into something even more fearsome.
Every trace of blood and filth was driven away by the Holy Light, leaving her pure white face unblemished. The golden-haired girl stood unapologetically strong, her cold and fierce eyes as merciless as the sharpness of her blade.
With each sweep of her sword, bones turned to ash.
It was like a dance of swords performed by an angel of slaughter—holy and beautiful, yet cruelly heartless.
The actors and Extraordinary Beings in the corner even forgot to escape, entranced by the mesmerizing sword dance.
However, Alice was not entirely without distraction.
In the pauses between her sword strikes, she caught a glimpse of the Black-Haired Boy in the distance. His movements slowed down momentarily, and he took the chance to lead their escape, a sense of pride swelling within her.
In the past, when her master faced peril without her, this time, she had finally been able to help her master.
Watching her undead minions fall like leaves, Karman’s expression grew grim.
The sight of her merciless slaughter reminded him of the Holy Knights he had encountered, filling him with dread.
Whether he liked it or not, that fear drove Karman to abandon control of the bone dragon and the army of the undead, focusing solely on the girl in front of him.
In the center of the arena, the once frightening skeletons, corpses, and the terrifying dragon looked like they had lost their mind, drooling and bewildered.
“Now’s the time!”
Roy surged ahead, carving a path for the civilians to flee towards the exit.
However, he himself went against the tide, rushing back toward the stage.
In the central stage, Karman shouted furiously, “Don’t get too cocky, little brat!”
At his command, the army of undead charged toward Alice.
The golden-haired girl cleaved through several skeletons with her sword, yet she appeared to be a tiny ant in the storm, easily engulfed by the river of bones.
However, the very next second, a stunning sword hum resonated, and the circular blade gleamed just like a brilliant moon slicing through the dark night, dazzlingly bright.
The horde of undead was cut neatly in two by that harrowing blow, and the golden blur zipped through the scattered bones like a shooting star heading straight for Karman, leaving a straight line of blade light behind.
Yet, a cold smile crept onto Karman’s face.
With a casual gesture, he conjured a pale magic staff from the void.
Karman’s aura surged, nearing the pinnacle of Sequence 7.
And falling alongside the staff was a massive skeletal hand from a white magic circle!
The remnants of a Titan lineage, paired with necromantic magic, no Sequence 7 could withstand that!
The skeletal hand, accompanied by a thunderous roar and wrapped in white flames, came crashing down upon the golden-haired girl.
The vast stage crumbled entirely under this terrifying strike, emitting a piercing wail, and those Extraordinary Beings and actors in the corners were flung away by a visible shockwave.
As the Holy Light vanished into the darkness, Karman finally smirked in triumph.
But the very next second, he felt a chill run down his spine.
He turned around, only to see the Black-Haired Boy staring at him blankly from afar.
No fluctuations of power, no strange pressure. The Black-Haired Boy was simply gazing over, lost in thought.
The air became eerily still.
The sheer killing intent emanating from the boy caused the priest of the Necromancer’s School to feel an uncontrollable sense of dread.
