Chapter 38: Not for the Senior to Worry
After clearing up the misunderstanding, Charlotte and Nia decided not to make things difficult for him—though they would sometimes squeeze his waist or leave an imprint as a warning during their playful moments.
As a gentleman of three virtues, Roy naturally didn’t take the initiative to approach Leanna.
First, Leanna herself had said she wasn’t in a rush, and second, Roy wanted to wait for news from the academy.
Roy didn’t doubt Leanna’s intelligence network, but right now, compared to the countless mages gathering at the Mage Association, she still fell a bit short.
Especially since Roy had specifically confirmed that Leanna only knew he needed some mythical creature’s relic, but couldn’t be sure if what she had was the Certificate of Kingship he required.
Unless things changed on Leanna’s side, Roy wasn’t in a hurry, so there was no need to approach her and risk getting another imprint from the tiger mom at home.
With no leads on the Certificate of Kingship, Roy had to focus all his energy on advancing in Iron Blood.
At the training grounds, facing the relentless attacks of classmates wielding dual blades, Roy swung his longsword casually, feeling a bit disengaged.
The next semester offered many practical combat courses, even chances to spar with second-year seniors, and Roy was looking forward to getting some training in.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t sure if it was due to getting used to fighting cultists, but his standards had risen. After all, even his usual sparring partner, Alice, had a Sequence 7 level.
Actually, this would be a Sequence 8, an Extraordinary Being specializing in close combat from the South Sea Kingdom—not bad at all. The issue was, without the thrill of life-or-death clashes or the pressure of bloodline levels, he couldn’t muster any excitement for it.
Using the False King, Roy could completely match up against an average Sequence 6.
Even without the False King, under the same bloodline level, with his wealth of combat experience, Roy rarely had any opponents.
In just five minutes, he seized his opponent’s opening and executed a clever upward slice, sending the dual blades flying.
Cheers erupted around him, mostly from those hailing from the Lionheart.
The defeated young man clutched his wrist, looking utterly incredulous.
“Thanks for the match, senior.” Roy sheathed his longsword, nodding slightly to show respect.
At that moment, a round of applause suddenly broke out from behind, accompanied by a refreshing male voice.
“Truly worthy of the Lionheart Princess’s knight, the champion of the Trial of Blue. Impressive skills!”
Suddenly, a scream erupted from the crowd of girls.
Turning around, Roy was greeted by a flash of blue hair and a handsome face that clearly exuded scholarly charm.
Jason Hassan, the prince of the South Sea Kingdom and the leader of the South Sea faction.
Even without those titles, just the sight of his face was enough to send countless women into a frenzy. However, his abilities matched his reputation.
Anyone who could hold their own against Douglas or the Mage Leanna was certainly not an ordinary character.
Yet, Roy felt a bit wary at Jason’s arrival.
In the original story, this guy had some friction with Charlotte. In fact, with the Golden Sands faction severely weakened and having to abandon many territories, the Lionheart faction had been clashing with the South Sea faction over how to take over these vacant forces.
“Thank you for the compliment, but I remember your practical training isn’t over here, right?”
“I completed my training, so I specifically came to see the rising stars of the first year.”
Jason first sent a rather elegant smile in Roy’s direction, then glanced at the young man who had just lost to Roy, sighing, “Harman is one of my vassals, considered among the top in Sequence 8. For a junior like you to defeat him so easily is really impressive.”
“I’m just Sequence 8 as well,” Roy replied with a slight smile, not overly warm.
A glimmer flashed in Jason’s eyes: “But you are the Sequence 8 who led everyone to fight back against the cult and won the Trial of Blue. In a certain sense, isn’t that more interesting than Sequence 7?”
“Do you mind chatting with me a bit more?” The blue-haired youth glanced at the audience behind him.
Roy frowned slightly. “Can I say I mind?”
“Haha, you’re quite humorous, junior.” At this point, Jason’s tone grew somewhat meaningful, “This is a rare opportunity; let’s talk.”
Though their temperaments were different, both the black-haired and blue-haired youths were quite handsome, causing a stir among the surrounding girls.
However, Roy wasn’t quite as relaxed.
He sensed the unfriendly vibe in Jason’s gaze.
Roy followed Jason to the audience section of the training ground, picking a high, empty corner to sit in.
Surrounding girls occasionally shot bright smiles his way, while Jason waved back slightly, prompting more screams.
At first glance, the South Sea prince had a bit of a carefree playboy vibe, but Roy knew this was all just a facade.
In fact, Jason had no interest in women, and his engagement to his fiancée was purely a political marriage. His ambitions and methods were not something a typical noble second-generation could match; attracting his attention was not a good thing.
“Senior, I don’t know what misunderstanding you have about me, but I really am just a Sequence 8,” Roy paused and added, “Moreover, I’m just Charlotte’s pledged knight, not a faction leader. If you want to discuss important figures, you should talk to her.”
However, Jason shook his head with a smile.
“Powerful, capable, and a key figure in the Lionheart faction—I used to think so.”
“But then you started associating with the elven Nightingale, and even that mage seems to have taken a liking to you. If I still can’t see what makes you exceptional, that would make me the foolish one, right?”
Well, now that the balance among the three factions had been disrupted, he certainly didn’t want to see the Black Magic faction and Lionheart faction getting too close, so he’d come specifically to warn Roy. Both Douglas and himself had suffered losses under Leanna, and he naturally didn’t want her to gain another ally.
Understanding Jason’s intentions, Roy felt a bit odd.
In the original story, that “young scoundrel Roy” had never attracted Jason’s attention. Who would have guessed that after washing away that stigma and becoming a prominent figure at the academy, no longer subject to criticism, he instead drew Jason’s caution.
Good or bad, it was just continuous trouble.
Especially since ever since he met Leanna, why wouldn’t the trouble stop?
“I’m just ordinary friends with Leanna.”
“Then can I also be friends with you, junior?”
Roy fell silent.
The territory of the Academy City was limited, and the contradictions of faction struggles were irreconcilable. Based on the original story and the current indicators, the Lionheart faction and the South Sea faction were bound to have clashes.
Jason didn’t seem to care, gently patting Roy’s shoulder.
“Junior, I advise you, the mage is very dangerous; it’s better not to get involved with her.”
“This matter should be discussed with Charlotte; I’m just a knight.”
Jason frowned slightly but continued, “I understand you don’t want to be enemies with the mage, and I don’t expect you to team up with me.”
“Just don’t interfere with my rivalry with her.”
After saying this, Jason returned to his gentle, cultured smile and stood up, preparing to leave.
Until Roy spoke up and stopped him in his tracks.
“What if I do?”
Jason turned back, his smile slightly subdued.
“Then…”
“Senior, you misunderstood. I’m not asking for your advice,” Roy shot him a polite smile that seemed courteous, yet held no warmth or humility, and stated calmly the truth in the young man’s heart.
“The matters of the Lionheart faction are decided by Charlotte herself. As for me…”
“My affairs with Leanna are not something you need to worry about.”
