Chapter 42: The Taste of a Junior
The café was elegantly decorated, but strangely quiet, eerily serene, with only the soothing classical music trickling in, painting a picture of unusual tranquility.
On the academy’s commercial street, there were all sorts of shops, often the focal point of faction struggles. However, coffee shops, being low-cost and unrelated to the extraordinary, seemed to escape the fate of conflict due to their scant customer base.
Leaning against the wooden chair, Roy looked across at the girl bathing in the soft sunlight, her smile radiant. In such a peaceful atmosphere, he couldn’t help but feel a bit dazed.
To be honest, Roy thought he’d be dragged into Leanna’s territory to use the False King bloodline to help with some tricky tasks, or to get a glimpse of the dark magic faction’s foundation. He never imagined he was just here for coffee.
“Isn’t drinking coffee something you can do anytime?”
“But how often do I get the chance to have coffee with you, Roy junior?” Leanna smoothly instructed the waiter, “I’ll have the usual.”
Roy wasn’t really focused on the coffee, so he didn’t even glance at the menu that was pushed toward him. “I’ll just have what she’s having.”
“Then let’s add some sugar and milk,” Leanna added.
Roy found it somewhat amusing: “I’m not so weak that I can’t handle a simple cup of coffee.”
“Drinking it and enjoying it are two different things, you know?”
Roy scoffed.
Does she really think of him as a little brother?
Before long, steaming cups of coffee with extra sugar and milk were placed on the table.
The coffee was pitch black.
Leanna didn’t add anything extra; she merely stirred it gently, elegantly lifted the cup, and took a slow sip.
Her long, dense eyelashes fluttered slightly, and when she set the cup down and opened her eyes again, her hollow purple gaze brightened up with a rare tenderness that outshined the sunlight.
Her posture was upright, her demeanor dignified, and the thin warm sunshine seemed to drape a veil of twilight around the girl, giving her a dreamlike quality.
This poetic scene made Roy momentarily lose himself.
Until the girl covered her mouth and chuckled, “What’s the matter? You’re staring at me so hard I’m getting shy!”
“N-no, it’s nothing.” Roy quickly looked away.
“I was just watching you enjoy it.”
“Well, it’s because you’re treating me. It tastes even better than usual.”
This girl had to be a real charmer, even while drinking coffee, how wicked.
Still, Roy found himself a bit curious about how good this coffee was to get Leanna’s approval.
So, Roy picked up his cup and took a small sip.
That sip made his face instantly change, eyes widening, nearly bursting with extraordinary waves.
Roy’s understanding of coffee was limited to what he’d had at beverage shops. Even though they occasionally brewed some fancy beans at home, he couldn’t tell the difference.
However, this cup of coffee was something else entirely!
What the hell? This is way too bitter! Is this even something meant for people to drink?!
After taking a sip, Roy felt like he was downing an intense herbal medicine, his brain was buzzing from the bitterness.
Seeing Roy’s hilarious expression, Leanna seemed to have anticipated this, bursting into giggles uncontrollably.
“That’s why I said you should add sugar.”
Roy didn’t want to be looked down upon by a girl, especially a potential ally, so he waved his hand dismissively, “Ahem, I didn’t say I couldn’t drink it!”
“Then keep going!”
Roy’s face showed immediate difficulty.
Just as he was about to force himself to raise the cup, Leanna took his cup, poured in the milk, added sugar cubes, and stirred it carefully before pushing it back to him.
“Alright, try it now.”
“I already said I can handle it.”
“You’re just not honest, are you, junior? Not cute at all.”
Roy’s mouth twitched, “You’re not actually thinking of me as a junior, are you?”
Leanna blinked, “But you are my junior, aren’t you?”
Roy felt helpless and had no choice but to take the coffee cup. In the process, he accidentally brushed his fingers against her delicate hand.
The second sip of coffee was still bitter, but this time it melded with the sweetness of the sugar and the creaminess of the milk. The initially frightening bitterness transformed into a rich flavor that Roy could appreciate.
Now, this is actually good.
Roy unconsciously let out a breath of relief, but when he looked up, he found the girl staring intently at him, her expression akin to someone admiring a cute animal.
“Is it good?”
“…Not bad.” Roy had to grit his teeth to admit it.
Surprisingly, upon hearing this, Leanna’s smile widened again, teasingly saying, “Needing sugar and milk in coffee? You’re such a kid.”
“It’s not like I added it myself!” Roy glanced at Leanna’s terrifyingly black coffee, unable to help but frown, “Besides, you can’t drink this stuff without sugar, can you?!”
“So you think your cup is better?”
“Isn’t that obvious?!”
“Then…” A glimmer of mischief flashed in her purple eyes as she naturally revealed a trap she had long prepared, “Can I taste the flavor of my junior, Roy?”
Roy froze in place, feeling like his brain wasn’t working properly.
“I’m just talking about coffee,” Leanna raised an eyebrow, intentionally casting a playful glance, “What were you thinking?”
This girl was seriously playing with him like a bad big sister, right? Coming back to his senses, Roy ground his teeth internally, but he wouldn’t back down.
But given the age gap and the fact that he wasn’t some pure-hearted little boy anymore who had never held a girl’s hand, there was no way he would let this bad woman toy with him!
“Even if it’s just coffee, it’s not quite right, is it?” Roy adjusted his breathing slightly, proactively pushing the cup toward her, launching a counterattack, “Sister, if you keep joking like this, I might misunderstand.”
Leanna’s smile finally subsided a bit, her gaze lowered slightly, her voice softer: “I just want to taste what you like.”
Is he blushing now? Even though she’s older, she’s still a girl who hasn’t been in a relationship.
Roy smirked secretly and then looked over at the bar: “Then let’s order another cup…”
Unexpectedly, at that moment, Leanna gracefully picked up his cup.
Under Roy’s astonished gaze, she leisurely placed her lips over where he had previously sipped, as if this was completely normal.
Seconds later, Leanna set down the cup, her finger brushing her slightly moist lips, her tongue flickering barely perceptibly, tasting a sweetness she hadn’t experienced before.
Leanna’s eyes glazed over, satisfied and delighted: “The flavor of my junior is indeed quite nice.”
