Chapter 50: The Trump Card and the Backup Plan
Jason had never underestimated Roy, but he couldn’t swallow the idea of losing like this.
Sure, Jason admired the talents at the Magic Academy, but in his eyes, he was the brightest star in the sky.
What Jason yearned for was never just a battle against the chosen ones but to thoroughly defeat and conquer them!
Yet, signing this agreement and surrendering completely would cost him everything he’d worked for the entire year. Even if the South Sea faction had a chance to rise again, it seemed unlikely they’d ever reclaim the title of the Academy’s top faction.
“Roy Ainbrad! I admit, I underestimated you! But don’t think you’ve won! Our battle has just begun!”
Jason stood up and suddenly pulled out an aquamarine gemstone.
In an instant, Jason’s previously calm and elegant demeanor turned fierce, a terrifying aura of the Extraordinary Being swept in like a raging storm, as if the once tranquil sea had turned into a terrifying storm zone in a heartbeat.
As the barrier of South Sea Mansion gradually dimmed, the mages had no time to rejoice.
Because the next moment, the sky was thick with dark clouds, and a massive magic array lit up on the lake’s surface.
A massive pillar of water shot up from the center of the lake, accompanied by the roar of crashing waves. The pillar suddenly shattered, and from within rose a giant made of water, clad in armor and wielding a heavy axe!
This magical giant stood ten meters tall, its body formed of crystal-clear lake water. Its eyes shone with intelligence, its muscular physique flowing with power, each droplet of water pulsating with immense extraordinary energy that set hearts racing.
“Get it!”
Kreya ordered, slightly panicked.
Dozens of Extraordinary Beings ranked 8 and 9 attacked simultaneously, magic shining like a dazzling meteor shower aimed at the fearsome giant.
However, this grand display of magic merely stirred waves against the giant’s power.
Instead, the giant swung its massive axe with a mighty blow.
“Ah!”
Kreya, leading the charge, immediately ducked for cover, but it was too late.
The lake surged, turning into a monstrous roar, pouring ashore. Under the towering wave reaching over ten meters, the mages were as insignificant as ants, scattered without a chance. Even Kreya, who had initially led their team with rank 7, vanished without a trace.
Members of the South Sea faction in the mansion shouted out, with some even charging out of the barrier to retaliate against the mages.
The situation flipped almost instantly.
Inside the banquet hall, feeling that thrilling surge of power, Roy shook his head slightly, unable to suppress a sigh.
Just like Charlotte’s “Blazing Blossom,” the prince of the South Sea had a trump card or two to preserve his life.
The “Oceanic Titan” was a giant of the sea, designed after the Titans of the First Era and constructed from vast amounts of magic crystals. Although activating it consumed a large quantity of magic stones and other extraordinary resources, it held power on par with rank 6.
The gap between rank 6 and rank 7, though seemingly small, was an insurmountable chasm between mid-tier and low-tier extraordinary beings.
Several joined-rank 8 individuals could potentially defeat a rank 7, but even ten or more rank 7s were far from a match for rank 6.
Moreover, as long as it continually consumed magic crystals, the “Oceanic Titan” could convert water sources into armor, repairing any damage sustained. This was why the South Sea faction chose the lake as their stronghold.
Unless one could destroy it in a single blow, this water giant would always be able to mend its injuries from the surrounding water.
In some ways, it was even more troublesome than a genuine rank 6 extraordinary being!
In fact, while there was no direct storyline involving it in the original, it was mentioned that the Gold Sand and Dark Magic factions’ attempts to breach the South Sea Mansion were thwarted simply due to the presence of the “Oceanic Titan.”
However, a rank 6 being was considered a national-level strategic weapon, and even royal family members couldn’t casually use it—this was specifically intended as a life-preserving backup for Jason.
Using such an extraordinary item had long exceeded the scope of factional strife. Even within the South Sea itself, Jason would likely face criticism.
Roy helplessly said, “Back down, Jason, don’t make things worse.”
Unfortunately, Jason was already far from his usual composed self, pale as he shouted at Roy, “I may have lost, but you and Leanna won’t win either!”
“Let’s just all go down together and start from scratch!”
Seeing the hostility in Jason’s eyes, Roy fell into silence.
Before they set off, Leanna had warned him about this worst-case scenario.
“The plan from the junior is good, but there’s still that final flaw.”
“The Prince of the South Sea isn’t as rational as he appears. He craves the power of a king, but the South Sea is calm and peaceful. He has the power and intelligence but no outlet for it. To put it nicely, he has a strong desire to win; to put it bluntly, he’s just a competitive brat.”
“You corner him, and he’ll go all in! If he truly brings out the ‘Oceanic Titan,’ even the Dark Magic faction wouldn’t stand a chance.” Leanna said this with a glimmer of apprehension in her expression.
Now, the situation was unfolding just as Leanna had anticipated.
But it was because of Leanna’s warnings that Roy could prepare his backup plan and patch that final flaw.
Under Jason’s astonished gaze, Roy took a sip from his glass, then threw Jason a teasing look mixed with resignation, “Your trump card is good, but did you ever think there’s more than just you with a hidden ace?”
Jason felt a chill run down his spine, envisioning a terrifying possibility.
Could it be that even the appearance of the “Oceanic Titan” was within Roy’s expectations…
No! He had already wagered everything, and he had to keep betting! Even if it could be foreseen, they surely couldn’t prevent it!
Jason sneered coldly, “Trump card? Haha, don’t try to play coy. Whether it’s Lionheart or Dark Magic, I’ve never heard of you having such a high-level extraordinary item!”
“The gap between rank 6 and rank 7 is simply…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Jason froze in place.
Because he distinctly felt a chilling, terrifying power rise and face off against his “Oceanic Titan” from afar!
Roy said nothing, simply raising his glass while gesturing towards the door, inviting him out.
Unable to contain himself, Jason dashed out of the mansion.
The sky was covered in dark clouds, and the air was thick with sea mist, but the water giant was not as unstoppable as Jason had imagined.
For there stood a dark-haired witch in a black dress, raising her skeletal wand to block the water giant’s advance.
Compared to the massive giant, the witch’s figure seemed infinitesimal; however, the extraordinary aura radiating from her was no less than that of the water giant, manifesting as a solid, dark brown shadow.
Rank 7? Had she reached rank 6 already?!
Jason nearly collapsed on the spot. It’s rare enough for someone so young to reach rank 6; there might never be another!
After a careful glance, he saw that Leanna was still at rank 7, leaving Jason no time to rejoice.
Because Leanna suddenly thrust her wand into the ground.
From the void, a terrifying giant hand, wrapped in serpent scales, emerged, rushing down toward the lake with a force that screamed judgment.
The power of rank 6 sprang forth from that giant hand!
