Chapter 108: Unworthy of Humanity
“Hahaha! That’s right! Everyone should just die!”
At the top of the vine barrier, Marvin looked down at the battlefield, arms wide open, laughing uncontrollably while enjoying the clumsy antics of the mages.
“How dare you criticize me? Do you even have the right?!”
“How does it feel to be crushed by the cultists you looked down upon?!”
A few days ago, the Mage Society had collectively criticized Marvin in public, making him lose face. On the day he was judged by the society, furious citizens bombarded him with trash along the way—after all, in Veszyra, colluding with cultists was a betrayal of the entire human race, a crime worse than treason.
Now, seeing these mages fall, Marvin finally felt some relief.
But this satisfaction didn’t last long.
In the midst of despair, the situation to the southwest was completely different, capturing Marvin’s attention.
Nine huge, ghostly green serpents emerged, swirling in a storm of death, crushing all enemies that stood in their way, whether they were corpses or sub-dragon monsters.
The brown-haired sorceress commanded these twisted snake beasts, charging forward, surrounded by oddly-shaped dark mages, making their way unstoppably toward the outer layer of the barrier.
“Sequence 6…?!”
Sensing the opponent’s aura, Marvin’s face twisted in surprise.
He had barely reached Sequence 6 before turning thirty, already hailed as a once-in-a-hundred-years genius of the Purple Magic School.
But in comparison, jealousy inevitably arose.
“But even if you’re Sequence 6, you can’t shake the All Things Wither barrier. Not to mention that filthy and vile power of Black Magic!”
Leanna’s core ability, Serpent Master, allowed her to mimic absorbed snake-like magical beasts and demons, unleashing their original powers.
And the Hydra, as her strongest summon at the moment, was formidable not just due to its massive size and regenerative abilities but also because of its nine kinds of magical poison.
With all nine heads lunging forth, they sank their teeth into the sturdy barrier for the first time, causing the seemingly indestructible plant fortress to shudder greatly.
Next, a viscous, oily green venom streamed from the serpent’s mouth.
The vines, which originally had regenerative power, were quickly corroded and decayed. The barrier trembled violently as if it gained sentience, feeling the agonizing pain of erosion.
“Don’t get cocky, you wretched woman!”
Marvin waved his hand, summoning his contracted Centaur Archer, coldly gazing at the distant brown-haired sorceress, a cruel smile creeping onto his face.
Sequence 6? Genius? Just a dirty lowly creature tainted by demon blood.
Lowly creatures deserve lowly deaths.
The Centaur Archer was an extraordinary being of Sequence 6, possessing extremely powerful ranged attack capabilities.
Marvin didn’t plan to finish her off in one hit but aimed for the sorceress’s legs, wanting to incapacitate her and relish the spectacle of her being overwhelmed by the corpses.
Leanna, who was focused on breaking the barrier, felt an icy killing intent creeping up her neck.
She instinctively recalled the Hydra to protect herself.
But to Marvin’s eyes, that maneuver was still too slow.
Just as the Centaur Archer drew back to shoot an arrow powerful enough to rival city-smashing projectiles, a deep crimson spear streaked with bloody light shot towards Marvin.
Caught off guard, Marvin had no choice but to order the Centaur Archer to change direction and intercept this unexpected attack.
The arrow pierced the blood-red spear with pinpoint accuracy, but before Marvin could smirk, the pierced spear exploded violently, releasing a wave of blood energy that sent him flying.
In the distance, Leanna looked up at the inexplicably exploding barrier, her mind filled with confusion.
That killing intent felt all too real, someone was definitely targeting her.
But why was the attack interrupted?
Was someone helping her?
Could it be…
Leanna laughed at the baseless thought that flashed through her mind, shook her head, and refocused on breaking the barrier.
At the bottom of the barrier, a dust-covered Marvin scrambled to his feet, glaring at the approaching black-clad swordsman and the adventurers, resentment flashing in his eyes.
He quickly confirmed that the earlier attack had come from the swordsman at the forefront, but couldn’t gauge their precise bloodline level.
It must be just a distraction used by someone too ashamed to reveal their true self!
Marvin stood up, a sinister expression on his face: “You lowly commoner! You dare to lay a hand on me? It seems you’ve lost your mind!”
Roy coldly retorted, “As a traitor colluding with cultists, you’re the one who betrayed righteousness, the one deserving of contempt!”
“Colluding?” Marvin twitched his eyebrow but soon sneered coldly, full of disdain.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m just using those cultist bastards’ power!”
“They sell their souls, worship evil gods, and become pawns. But I’m different; I master their skills and power without paying any price!”
With a grand wave of his hand, the barrier opened up, and countless purple mages shuffled forward like puppets.
Courageous adventurers feared no foes, but when they recognized the faces of those purple mages, they couldn’t help but freeze in place.
Those purple mages were either pale as corpses or crawling with maggots, having lost their humanity.
Even Roy couldn’t help but frown.
What do you mean “no cost”? You’ve just shifted the cost onto others!
The corpses and the sub-dragon transformations certainly robbed others of their souls, and the All Things Wither barrier required vitality to sustain it. This forest wasn’t very lush; it was evident that Marvin had sacrificed countless lives to activate the barrier.
Roy’s voice turned somber: “These guys are your companions, right?”
“Companions? They don’t deserve it! The lowly commoners with insufficient noble blood should sacrifice for me, turning into my power!” Marvin spoke shamelessly, his expression full of pride, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
“Pursuing power justifies such atrocities for you?”
“Atrocities? They die for me, and it’s their honor!” Marvin paused and then laughed, saying, “Besides, aren’t extraordinary beings all striving for power to the utmost? Commoner, how are you any different?”
Upon hearing this, Roy lost all interest in questioning further, feeling nauseous.
Both in pursuit of forbidden power, Leanna was entirely different from him.
Leanna felt unease and disgust towards forbidden power; she only pushed forward to save her mother and reclaim her family, bearing the pain of being despised by others. She truly had to kill criminals of the underground world but had never harmed innocents.
However, Marvin was different. He believed himself superior and committed atrocities without remorse, showing no mercy even to his own people.
Clearly untouched by the evil god’s power, he was even colder than the cultists in Roy’s eyes.
“Let me correct myself. Calling you a traitor seems a bit inappropriate.”
Roy spoke indifferently, his disdain showing no signs of concealment: “You, such a person, aren’t even worthy of being human. It’s no surprise you’d wallow with cultists.”
Marvin’s expression twisted instantly.
He recalled the day he was scorned by the mages, and even earlier, the black-haired boy who had ignited a wave of criticism at the banquet.
“Judge me? Do you even have the right?!”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself, you half-bred with barely a trace of extraordinary blood!!!”
Marvin roared as he unleashed a torrent of bloodline power, summoning a second creature from beside him.
