I’m Really Not Trying to Be Chased by the Heroine as the Villainous Playboy! – Chapter 410

Chapter 117: A Mere Mortal Wound

“At least you didn’t embarrass the Demon Race,” the Flame Demon muttered, showing no intention of pursuing the matter further.

“But the plan must go on.”

“No matter how the Mage acts, Leanna Cassandra’s bloodline must belong to me!”

Diabolus nodded in affirmation, “As you wish.”

“I’ll do what I can to stir things up with the reinforcements, but it won’t last long,” the head of Black Magic concluded before ending the communication.

Once it was just the two of them left, Diabolus finally spoke up.

“My lord, that human has been working behind the scenes and colluding with Cultists. He is not to be trusted—”

“I know. What trust can exist between different races?”

The Flame Demon scoffed, “What humans desire is nothing but power.”

“No matter what he intends to do, as long as it eventually brings me the bloodline of the Royal Serpent, he has his value.”

With that, the monarch’s words were final, and as a loyal subject, Diabolus dared not speak further.

Just as Diabolus was about to end the projection, the Flame Demon asked once more.

“Are you sure you killed that human yourself?”

The Flame Demon was not a suspicious type; rather, he only cared about outcomes, rarely asking about details like this.

After all, the human’s life or death did not affect their plans.

Diabolus found it odd but replied promptly, “I am certain.”

“My lord, does that man have any special traits?”

“…… Nothing, just a whim of mine.”

With that, the flames extinguished, and the projection of the Flame Demon faded into nothingness.

“Hey, Sword Demon, are you sure you’re really okay?”

“Yeah, Sword Demon, you really shouldn’t push yourself!”

In the makeshift tent, Roy was reclining awkwardly on a hastily made iron-framed bed, casually waving at the two familiar Adventurers who came to check on him.

“It’s just a small injury; no need to worry about it.”

Hex and Reid exchanged bewildered glances.

The two terrifying waves of Class 5 had scared off the Mage and Adventurers, who hurried to retreat once Leanna and Roy returned to the group.

However, at that time, Roy’s situation could only be described as hanging by a thread.

He had a massive hole in his chest, big enough to see through to his back. Even if a priest from the Holy Light Church showed up, they’d probably just shake their head. Even Leanna, who helped carry him back, looked pale.

Everyone thought he was done for.

Yet just a few hours later, the Sword Demon not only survived but seemed increasingly energetic, going from barely hanging on to now sipping tea and chatting cheerfully.

Meanwhile, Hex and Reid still had scrapes that hadn’t healed!

Who would have thought that, among the troops, the Sword Demon, who was supposed to be at death’s door, was now the one in the best condition!

The two stared at Roy’s bandaged chest, now looking perfectly fine, completely puzzled.

Roy felt a chill under their scrutiny and instinctively tightened his cloak.

He was willing to fight to the death, but he never intended to actually die.

The reason he dared to trigger the Blood Mechanism of the Iron Blood Death Battle via Diabolus was that he had a way to survive.

Blood self-healing was a standard ability of the Blood Clan.

When it came to healing abilities, probably no creature in Veszyra could match the Blood Clan—Holy Light Church capabilities relied heavily on external healing, and apart from Alice, a chosen one, lower-tier Holy Light effects were quite limited.

In short, as long as he didn’t get his head blown off, even getting his heart ripped out by a black tiger wouldn’t be a real mortal wound for Roy.

Of course, blood self-healing required a massive amount of blood, which only added to Roy’s already battered body. Fortunately, he had the blood replenishing potions he won in the lottery, and after downing two bottles and taking a satisfying nap, his injuries were completely healed, and he regained most of the blood he lost.

He just wondered how Diabolus was faring with his injuries.

The Demon Race probably didn’t have healing abilities; that guy would likely be a cripple for a while, Roy thought with a bit of dark amusement.

“But who would have thought the Purple Sorcerer would actually be a Demon…

“And with the Sword Demon injured like this, this mission must be quite dangerous, right?”

The two Adventurers couldn’t shake off their unease.

Roy understood their feelings well.

People in Veszyra grew up hearing tales of the Demon Race as villains, fostering a subconscious fear. Even if Adventurers had a spirit of adventure, facing a Class 5 entity that could wipe them out with a single strike was understandably discouraging; thus, it was only natural for them to consider backing out.

Thinking this, Roy sighed, “If you’re unwilling, you can back out.”

The two were taken aback.

After all, Reid had looked after him before, and as for Hex, they had a bit of an unpleasant exchange in the past, but it didn’t reach a level that would make Roy dislike him.

Most importantly, they originally joined in thinking there would be rewards, making Roy feel quite anxious.

Roy kindly advised, “It’s wise to abandon the mission when faced with a foe beyond the scope of the quest.”

“You don’t have to answer me. Before the next Mage attack, feel free to leave. Others can do the same.”

A moment of silence followed.

Before leaving, Hex turned around and asked, “What about you, Sword Demon?”

Roy waved him off, “I have my own mission; you don’t need to worry about me.”

This was where their paths parted.

Roy silently lay back down on the bed.

Little did he know, after leaving the tent, the two Adventurers reminisced about his calm, fearless attitude, and felt a deep sense of respect.

The usually carefree Hex was uncharacteristically reflective, “Sword Demon, even after being hurt like that, still isn’t giving up. As an A-Rank like him, I really feel ashamed.”

And Reid recalled the moment he saved the Elf girl against the Black Claw, feeling admiration, “He’s always like this, never abandoning the weak!”

“Together?”

“Together!”

In just a few words, the two Adventurers shook hands, their resolve strengthening once more.

As they leaned on their staffs, the Red Mage who had come to check on Roy shared a moment with the two determined figures, silently admiring how resilient Adventurers were, having fought all day and still walking with purpose…

This was likely due to the Sword Demon’s influence.

Malfoy walked into the tent, surprised to see Roy sitting up and drinking tea.

“Are you really okay?”

“Would you prefer for me to be not okay?” Roy replied, a bit speechless.

Malfoy awkwardly twitched his lips, “Of course not, I just didn’t expect the Sword Demon to recover so quickly.”

Thanks to Roy splashing him with high-purity Holy Water, Malfoy had managed to save his life—when it came to healing wounds, no potion could compare to Holy Water, but it was in short supply and heavily regulated by the church.

Even so, Malfoy looked pale as a ghost, limping around while Roy casually sipped tea made him seem like the one who was really injured and needed checking on.

“The Sword Demon has shown me kindness; I am genuinely happy for you. However, forgive me for interrupting your recovery; the situation is dire, and I have an unpalatable request…”

Seeing the proud Mage looking troubled and hesitating to express himself, Roy had already guessed his intent and had to speak up, “Don’t worry, I won’t be leaving.”
