Chapter 5: Seeds of Emotion
“Master, Alice wants to sign up for the practical training this weekend.”
The little maid’s decision stirred quite the commotion at the weekend dinner table.
Charlotte leaned closer to Roy, glancing at the application in his hands with a strange look, “Practical training, at the highest difficulty level?”
“I remember this training is pretty dangerous. Is there really a need to participate?” Leanna, sitting nearby, curiously asked.
The Academy had all sorts of training activities, not just for students to earn credits and practical experience, but also to make sure resources weren’t wasted.
Before becoming students, they were first extraordinary beings.
And extraordinary beings carried all sorts of burdens.
They called it training, but at the highest difficulty level, there were definitely many tasks that left adventurers and local lords feeling quite troubled. The risks were obvious.
Generally speaking, only students from common backgrounds or young noble scions needing to prove themselves would frequently participate in such training to get ahead.
In Alice’s case, there wasn’t really any necessity to take part.
Nia shot Roy a glance and lightly kicked him under the table, “Hey, you didn’t push Alice into this again, did you? It’s all your fault for always saying the future depends on her, making her anxious.”
In an instant, even Charlotte and Leanna shot him glances filled with mild reproach.
Roy scratched his head, “No, I was just mentioning it a bit, I didn’t force her.”
“Alice, you don’t have to rush to get stronger, you know?”
Right now, Alice was already quite busy. Between her studies and chores, she frequently participated in various practical training sessions and she also practiced on her own.
In Roy’s view, the little maid’s advancement speed had already far surpassed that in the original story. There’s no need to rush; in fact, it wouldn’t hurt to relax a little more.
However, Alice shook her head, “It’s okay, this is Alice’s own decision.”
“Alice wants to become stronger and help Master sooner, then…”
Looking at the black-haired boy’s figure, Alice came to an abrupt halt.
The desire to help her master was no mere façade.
After all, Master had grievances with cultists; getting stronger sooner would enable her to assist him. As a maid, it was only natural to fight for her master.
But her motives were not that pure and upright.
It wasn’t just about wanting to help her master; it was also about craving his praise and approval, wanting to be spoiled like the others, wanting to be held close in his embrace, wanting to be looked at with those eyes softer than the night.
“In any case, Alice wants to work harder, like Charlotte and the others, to help Master as soon as possible.”
By the time she was back to her senses, a pleasing lie slipped out, making her realize once again that she was indeed a naughty child.
The three girls exchanged glances.
Nia ran her fingers through her hair, troubled as she advised, “Alice, extraordinary power is largely determined by bloodlines. While you can get stronger through effort, you might not reach our level, okay?”
Leanna rationally analyzed, “Besides, the highest difficulty practical training requires at least two in Sequence 7 to team up. It’s not something you can handle on your own.”
Even in third year, Sequence 7 numbers only reached the double digits. Strictly speaking, the highest difficulty practical training was meant for these upperclassmen.
“But…”
Just when Alice felt a bit anxious, Roy chuckled, “What’s the problem? If you want to go, then go.”
The little maid was slightly taken aback, her eyes widening with surprise and joy, “Really, can I?”
“Of course you can.”
He noticed that Alice was serious.
Not because of his urging or orders, but because she genuinely wanted to attend the training and grow stronger.
It was good for the little maid to become the destined saintess early on, but Roy no longer saw Alice as his only lifeline, so he wasn’t in a hurry.
After all, he had experienced some intense grind in his past life from school to various clubs, and he didn’t want Alice to suffer the same way; he didn’t choose a Spartan-like training plan.
Letting this kid enjoy a bit of a peaceful school life didn’t seem bad, did it?
But if she actively wanted to work hard, as her master, he should support her.
Nia still wanted to say something, but Roy interjected with further conditions, “But this time, I want to go too. Is that okay?”
The dangers of practical training were unpredictable, and it was safer for him to go with the little maid rather than letting her team up with others.
“Of course, that’s no problem.” Alice’s eyes sparkled even more.
What could be better than having her master present, witnessing her performance firsthand? She was thrilled just thinking about it.
Seeing Roy make the decision, Nia and the others felt it was best not to say anything more.
If anything, the little maid was already remarkable, and with Roy’s fighting power accompanying her, there was nothing to worry about.
That night, the blonde girl sat in her room, jotting down today’s diary entry.
Her fair, soft bare feet waved playfully like a puppy’s tail.
【I need to perform well to prove my strength, to prove I won’t lose to them】
【If luck is on my side, Master might…】
Might look at her the same way he looked at them.
Alice recalled that kiss witnessed under the sunset in Lionheart City.
Even if she didn’t quite understand the tangle of emotions between genders, the seeds of emotion had already quietly sprouted.
The bare legs beneath the table curled up like a shy mimosa. Alice bit the end of her feather quill, feeling bashful about these rebellious thoughts, lacking the courage to even write that sentence.
She had to put down the pen, extinguish the candle, lie on her bed, hug her doll tightly, and force herself to sleep early, trying to forget those vexing, restless thoughts.
Meanwhile, the young boy, sprawled beside Leanna, found it hard to stay calm.
“Thinking about your maid?”
“Uh, is it that obvious?”
“Ha ha, she must have complained about you too, right?”
Leanna tugged Roy’s cheek, teasingly, “Having the three school flowers attending to you one after another still isn’t enough? Are you trying to collect all four?”
“What are you saying, I sound like some kind of sea king…”
Roy chuckled, muttering, “Alice is different. I’m just her master.”
To protect himself, he’s raising the little maid to become a grand angel, to nurture the destined saintess.
Even though his initial decision to nurture her was purely for self-interest, now, even if she doesn’t become a saintess, watching the little maid get stronger, taller, and prettier little by little, Roy found joy in it.
He even thought it would be nice if time could slow down a bit, so he could watch her grow a little longer.
That was quite contradictory to his original thoughts.
The brown-haired girl sighed inwardly beside him.
Isn’t it different? Actually, it’s the same.
For girls, it isn’t hard to guess how other girls feel.
It’s just that, this senior hasn’t been kind enough to actively increase her competition.
