Chapter 28: Wanting to Respond
On the podium, Xue Nuo stood alone, leaving Little Bai without any way to help her take the blame.
Roy asked again, “Teacher Xue Nuo, are you really not having any?”
“I’m not boasting, but my maid’s cooking is on a whole different level compared to the Academy’s cafeteria.”
Without lifting her head, Xue Nuo declared with righteous fervor, “No. As a teacher, I shouldn’t accept gifts from students.”
“Just to reiterate, I’m not hungry. You can eat it yourself.”
Busy preparing tutoring materials, Xue Nuo always just nibbled on some bread in the evenings. By this time, her stomach was always grumbling.
As a Level 5 Extraordinary Being, a great magician from the academy, and a warrior who had endured harsh winds and snow, this little hunger was nothing!
But even if she could endure it herself, she couldn’t control her body’s instinctive reactions.
Under normal circumstances, such a faint sound would go unnoticed. But in the now silent classroom, it couldn’t be hidden.
That said, admitting she was hungry and begging students for food would be too embarrassing!
Glancing aside, she saw the Silver-Haired Girl, drooling all over while chomping on a sausage, and the Black-Haired Boy looking at her with a doting expression. That solidified Xue Nuo’s resolve.
She definitely didn’t want to be looked at in such a way by her students!
Though that guy’s late-night snack did smell pretty good…
Xue Nuo tightened her little face, insisting she wasn’t hungry, forcing herself to ignore the tempting aroma as she took a sip from her water jug.
Of course, the jug was empty, denying her even the chance to delude herself.
Noticing the disappointment on Xue Nuo’s face, Roy couldn’t help but sigh.
“Teacher Xue Nuo, would you like some milk tea?”
Milk tea was a drink from Xue Nuo’s hometown.
Xue Nuo’s throat quivered slightly, but she stubbornly replied, “No need, I said it’s not necessary…”
Before she could finish, Roy had already stood up and poured her a small cup of milk tea using the bottle cap.
“It’s just a bit of milk tea, no need to be so polite, Teacher.” Roy paused for effect, feigning distress, “Or do you dislike my offering?”
“Not at all.” Xue Nuo instinctively shook her head.
Looking at the boy’s cheerful smile, she finally let out a soft sigh and took the cap from him, taking a small sip.
The warm breath and rich milky scent were so familiar; no doubt this was the taste from her empire’s hometown. However, it uniquely had a thick sweetness, which was different from the salty bitterness she was used to.
Raising her elegantly long eyebrows slightly, Xue Nuo’s delicate body shivered a bit, her expression inadvertently softening, and the ice and snow from her brows slowly dissipated.
“This is… sweet?”
“Yep. My maid made some modifications and added maple syrup.”
The milk tea from the empire resembles the Mongolian flavor in Roy’s past life, predominantly salty and savory.
But Roy preferred sweeter drinks, so Alice had recreated a taste much closer to that of a beverage shop.
Unexpectedly, Xue Nuo surprisingly enjoyed this version.
Noticing the Silver-Haired Girl savoring the milk tea, her eyes squinted with delight while her icy demeanor thawed, revealing an adorable expression like a little animal, Roy couldn’t help but smile.
Unlike Alice and Charlotte, who had that soft and cute charm, Xue Nuo was like a cold, aloof silver wolf, but then suddenly leaned down with a gentle smile, creating a quirky contrast.
Indeed, no girl could resist the joy of milk tea.
However, the bottle cap wasn’t large to begin with; after finishing one cup, the Silver-Haired Girl pouted, looking a bit lost and pitiful.
“If you want more, there’s still some left?”
“…Sorry to bother you.”
After getting a refill, Xue Nuo’s eyes immediately brightened up again.
Seeing the Silver-Haired Girl lost in the delicious beverage made by his maid, Roy felt a bit smug: “Alice’s cooking is impressive, right?”
Xue Nuo nodded slightly in recognition, “Indeed.”
“Your girlfriend’s cooking is definitely better than the cafeteria’s.”
Roy nearly choked on his milk tea.
“Teacher, it seems you have a strange misunderstanding about me!”
“Alice is not my girlfriend, okay?”
Now it was Xue Nuo’s turn to look puzzled.
“Not? But you live together?”
“Yep, she’s just my family’s maid; our relationship is perfectly healthy, really.”
Xue Nuo understood the typical behavior of young nobles; anyone who brought a maid to school and lived together typically had questionable relationships, a massive breed of chaos.
Never did she expect Roy to have such pure intentions.
“Your relationship with Charlotte and the others seems far from healthy, though.” Xue Nuo shook her head and teased.
Roy scratched his cheek with a wry smile.
To outsiders, dating three girls at once indeed seemed pretty scummy. He had nothing to argue about that.
However, Xue Nuo’s words were light and devoid of judgment, rather, she quietly praised, “But there’s a reason they like you.”
“Eh?”
“People say you’re a womanizer, a notorious playboy who deceives girls with sweet nothings. But that’s clearly a lie; you’re just gentle, caring, and extremely good-looking, hence the slander.” Xue Nuo looked at him, displaying a hint of emotion.
Such a natural praise left Roy a bit taken aback.
Why did it feel like Xue Nuo’s personality was so different from the original? Was his top student acting so convincingly?
Roy remained grounded, humbly smiling, “You flatter me, Teacher, I’m just here making up for all the classes I skipped.”
Xue Nuo gazed directly at him, speaking earnestly, “But you’re different from everyone else.”
“Grades and situations are temporary, but you don’t accept the status quo; instead, you strive to change it.”
“Isn’t that so?”
At this moment, the girl’s expression softened, no longer resembling a frigid snow rose, but rather the gentle snow brought by a breezy wind.
Her icy blue eyes reflected maternal warmth, like autumn waters shimmering, feeling tender and irresistible.
Roy felt more and more embarrassed being praised.
His seemingly admirable student persona was merely a facade; if it weren’t for the decisive turning point, he wouldn’t have worked so hard.
But Xue Nuo was genuinely a good teacher.
The “bad boy Roy” from the original story was too terrible, inevitably making her seem cold and unapproachable.
“Teacher, since you have such high praise for me, why not go easy on me with the grades?” Roy grew bolder and made a joke.
Xue Nuo’s lips moved slightly, taking a sip of her milk tea before replying, “No need for that.”
“I can guarantee you that even if I don’t go easy on you, you’ll still handle the finals just fine.”
She smiled gently at the boy, exuding warmth and trust: “You won’t do too badly on tomorrow’s exam. I believe in your abilities.”
Roy felt a heat rise in his chest, his face reddening with a mix of embarrassment and an inexplicable surge of motivation.
Really, he wasn’t an exceptional student and had a strong dislike for exams.
If it weren’t for the crucial turning point, he’d have easily passed off tutoring and grades.
But under that gaze, even he couldn’t resist wanting to meet her expectations.
