Chapter 54: I’m Not Drunk
As night deepened, Roy followed the Silver-Haired Girl into the upscale Imperial restaurant, “Windswept Refuge,” located in the heart of Academy City, through the dancing snowflakes.
A beautiful, well-dressed Maid received their coats and led them to a semi-open Private Room on the second floor.
The walls were adorned with rugged yet exquisite tapestries, and on the brown-red floral tablecloth sat silver cutlery engraved with icy blue snowflakes.
Soft music flowed gently in the background. From the window, the sight of falling winter snow melded with the glowing, bustling nightscape.
Securing a reservation at a high-end restaurant on the Saint’s Day was no small feat, even for nobles, which just shows how much effort Xue Nuo had put into preparing for this day—proof of her sincerity.
However, Xue Nuo herself didn’t seem fully satisfied.
“If Winter bothers you again, just tell me.”
“I will. But you don’t need to worry too much, teacher.” Roy scratched his nose, forcing a smile, “I mean, I am the son of a Marquis; he wouldn’t dare overstep.”
Ever since their encounter earlier that day, Xue Nuo had been showering him with exaggerated affection. First, it was shopping everywhere, then a museum tour, and she even hired a dragon to take him around Academy City for fun.
If only he hadn’t feigned vulnerability back then. It made Xue Nuo feel overly responsible.
Since Xue Nuo was recommended to this restaurant, it was her first time here too.
So, she left the ordering to Roy.
When ordering, Roy carefully instructed the Servant to swap out the wine in the set meal for juice.
Xue Nuo raised an eyebrow, “You don’t drink?”
“Yeah, I’m not a fan of alcohol. It feels a bit embarrassing to get all tipsy.”
Xue Nuo’s lips curled up slightly, her eyebrows relaxing: “Roy, you really are still a child.”
Everyone in the Winter Empire, from the oldest man to the youngest child, seemed to love their drinks. The potency of their alcohol was renowned, surpassing that of Veszyra and other nations.
Roy chuckled awkwardly, completely at a loss.
I’m just looking out for you, teacher!
It’s true that despite being an Imperial citizen, Xue Nuo had a ridiculously low tolerance for alcohol, and her drunken antics were notorious.
The worst part was, after each time she got drunk, she’d wake up with no memory of what happened and genuinely believed her tolerance was decent!
And just to top it off, she thought she was pretty cool about it.
In the original story, Xue Nuo’s first lewd CG happened because she got way too drunk and ended up pinning the Maid, Alice, to the bed and… well, let’s just say things got heated.
While the heroes of the Empire could drink like fish, when Xue Nuo got tipsy, she turned into a total disaster, making for some embarrassing moments.
Roy definitely wouldn’t make the rookie mistake of letting her touch a single drop of alcohol!
Though it was somewhat amusing to see Roy avoiding alcohol, Xue Nuo appreciated it a bit more, thinking he was trying to maintain his dignity.
This kid, is he worried about making a fool of himself in front of me? How considerate!
From both an apprentice’s and a guy’s perspective, Roy was quite impressive.
As her direct apprentice, Xue Nuo felt he was flawless.
But could she really expect to receive the same kind of praise in his eyes?
Reflecting on their time together today, Xue Nuo didn’t have that kind of confidence.
While shopping, Roy would always return her gestures. At the museum, he would engage her in thoughtful conversations. Even while riding the dragon around the academy, with his experience riding griffons, he taught her how to handle the flying beasts.
Today was meant to be about taking care of him, letting him relax, and yet it turned into her being looked after instead.
Even now, while praising the food, Roy would bring the topic back to her homeland, asking about the Empire’s customs with a look of yearning.
Xue Nuo could tell this was a polite response rooted in emotional intelligence.
But even so, it didn’t ruin her enjoyment.
Conversely, she couldn’t replicate that courtesy.
Shopping or spending time together felt like drawing from others’ experiences; she couldn’t even come up with interesting topics and had to just follow Roy’s lead.
The more she realized this dynamic, the more irritated she felt.
It was as if some intense fire was slowly scorching her heart.
But the day wasn’t over yet.
To fulfill her duties as a teacher and give Roy a perfect Saint’s Day, Xue Nuo still had one important step to take.
“Roy, there’s a Saint’s Day gala at the central square soon?”
“Oh, I heard about that. There’ll be snacks, drinks, fireworks, and a dance performance, right? The church really goes all out.”
“Yeah, so do you want to check it out?” Xue Nuo suggested nonchalantly as she cut her steak, her tone so relaxed it felt like she was discussing something trivial: “To see the fireworks or maybe dance.”
Roy’s chewing on his steak slowed down a bit.
He almost twisted his fork out of shape.
Watching the fireworks didn’t seem like a big deal.
But dancing…?
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
This seemed to cross the line of what was appropriate between a teacher and a student, right?!
Back when he retorted against Winter, he never thought it would lead to this situation.
Logically, Xue Nuo should like girls…
But going by Charlotte and the others’ experiences, just how effective was that reasoning?
Uh, but even if it’s a dance, Xue Nuo didn’t specify it would be with him, right?
At those informal, laid-back galas, people usually picked dance partners on the spot, right?
…But even if not Xue Nuo, casually dancing with any girl would be pretty risky if Charlotte and the others found out!
As dinner wrapped up, and seeing that it was almost time to head to the gala, Roy still couldn’t think of a suitable excuse.
However, he noticed Xue Nuo’s expression seemed off.
Her previously cold gaze looked a little unfocused, and her upright, elegant posture was swaying slightly.
Also…
Was she blushing a bit?
Roy hesitantly asked, “Xue Nuo, you seem a bit unwell. How about I walk you back?”
Unexpectedly, Xue Nuo slammed her knife and fork down with a loud clatter, startling Roy.
“No way! We can’t go back!”
Roy’s heart sank.
This looked really…
“Teacher Xue Nuo, if I may be blunt, you seem a bit drunk.”
“Haha, Roy, are you underestimating your teacher? Besides, I haven’t even had a sip! How could I be drunk?”
Xue Nuo leaned slightly forward, tucking her silver hair behind her ear, resting her chin on her hand, tilting her head just enough for her icy blue eyes to shimmer with an unusual cuteness.
With the conservative ideals of the Empire, she didn’t even notice how her posture accentuated her ample bosom a bit too much.
Her tongue was tripping all over herself; it was obvious she was tipsy!
I’d love to ask too! Why can you get drunk without a single drop of alcohol?!
Roy frowned at the menu in shock.
Red wine braised beef, white wine steamed clams, orange wine crepes…
What the heck is this menu? Did they stop cooking without alcohol?!
Plus, he hadn’t even tasted a hint of any drink! Why would anyone get drunk from just the amount used as seasoning? Teacher, are you really from the Empire?!
“Teacher, please calm down and listen to me! Actually, the food from earlier… had alcohol mixed in…”
“I told you, I’m NOT drunk!”
Xue Nuo stood up in a sudden rage, startling Roy into a state of shock.
“Let’s go, to the gala!”
She swayed and turned to leave, but after just two steps, she stumbled backward.
“Watch out!”
Roy quickly rushed forward to catch her from behind, only to find her too soft to stand upright, and she crashed straight into his arms.
