Chapter 65: Smooth Sailing?
In fact, even without the panel’s reminders, Roy could clearly feel the restless stirring of the False King bloodline within him, his soul instinctively drawn to that powerful force.
But Xue Nuo, Cheese, and Little White were not keeping up with him.
“Teacher Xue Nuo? What are you all…”
It was only then that Roy noticed Cheese and Little White both looked a bit dazed, the former repeatedly banging into the wall, while the latter wore a cold expression with drool hanging like a necklace from his mouth, completely ignoring him.
Xue Nuo was in slightly better shape, but she was also clutching her head, as if fighting against something, cold sweat dripping from her temples.
“Can’t you… feel anything?”
“Feel?” Roy was a bit confused.
“Yeah, there’s a very powerful force… no malice, but it feels like my brain is being scorched deep down…”
Xue Nuo’s expression grew increasingly dazed as she had to brace herself against the wall to support her body.
The principal had said there was no need to worry about pitfalls in the Phoenix ruins, but seeing their condition made it hard for Roy not to be on guard.
But the Certificate of Kingship was right in front of him; he had no choice.
“Teacher Xue Nuo, I’ll be back soon.”
“Be sure to be careful.” Xue Nuo said seriously as a warning.
Roy nodded, then stepped into the sunlit altar room.
As he got closer to the golden flames, he finally experienced what Xue Nuo had mentioned, a heat swelling in his mind as if it were about to burn him.
Under the blessing of the Ocean Sovereign, his merfolk bloodline gave him some resistance to fire.
But the searing pain deep within his mind was something no flame could cause.
It wasn’t fire or any extraordinary element he was familiar with.
The closer he got to the altar, the stronger the burning pain in his head became, like a flame growing more fervent.
At first, Roy could endure it, but by the end, the agony in his brain twisted his expression grotesquely, and the False King bloodline began to spiral out of control, dragon scales occasionally surfacing on his skin and blood seeping out.
Watching the young boy stagger but still push forward with determination, Xue Nuo’s lips parted slightly, yet she bit her silver lips, suppressing the impulse to call out to him.
Having reached Sequence 5, Xue Nuo certainly understood that the path of the extraordinary was always accompanied by the suffering of surpassing mortals. To advance, one must endure and overcome.
The more powerful the bloodline, the more so. The blood of the False King, feared by cultists, was even more so.
This step had to be taken by him alone; no one could help him.
By the time he reached the altar, Roy’s expression was twisted, blood seeping from his eyes as distorted dragon scales flashed and shattered on his surface. Yet, a faint smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
Before this, no Certificate of Kingship had ever had such a huge impact.
The one before him was probably the one that retained the most power of the demigods.
Since he had to bear the remnants of ancient demigods, what was this little cost?!
Roy gritted his teeth against the searing pain that felt almost like it would tear apart his very soul and reached out toward the golden flames.
In the next moment, the golden flames erupted with dazzling brilliance, accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful cry, merging with him.
【Warning! The ancient demigod medium has merged into your body! You can choose to consume life points to activate it at any time!】
Having completed all this, Roy barely had time to feel happy before he was engulfed by a tide of fatigue, collapsing weakly.
As consciousness faded, he heard a panicked voice behind him that barely sounded like Xue Nuo’s.
When he opened his eyes again, Roy found himself lying on the Silver-Haired Girl’s lap, enjoying the caress of her fair little hand.
Seeing he was awake, Xue Nuo couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh: “You’ve worked hard.”
“It’s all good, Teacher Xue Nuo. Thank you for taking care of me.”
“Don’t be absurd. It’s nothing major.”
Roy forced a smile, thinking that fainting like this and needing to lean on his teacher’s lap was a bit too lame.
“How long was I out?”
“Not long.”
Catching a glimpse of Cheese and Little White napping nearby, Roy knew she wasn’t telling the truth.
In her ice-blue eyes, there was a hint of concern and tenderness, giving the Silver-Haired Girl a rare maternal quality.
Being so closely watched by her made him feel oddly embarrassed.
“Well, um, I’ve actually recovered already.”
As Roy said this, he tried to sit up, but the girl pressed his forehead back down.
“Don’t rush. It’s fine to rest a bit more.”
“That power just now was mostly affecting the souls of extraordinary beings, and a soul injury is a serious matter; we can’t let our guard down.”
Not knowing how to retort, Roy simply continued to enjoy the lap pillow and gentle strokes.
A gentle, cool breeze swept over his forehead while he felt a soft, tender touch at the back of his head.
Though he was skeptical if resting could truly heal a soul injury.
But even if it was psychological, the searing pain deep in his mind was indeed lessening because of it.
Just as he was about to doze off from relaxation, he hurriedly sat up, lest he bring more trouble. But the Silver-Haired Girl looked regretful, which was another matter altogether.
A group of them set off on the way back.
To be honest, aside from the little hiccup at the end, the process of obtaining the Certificate of Kingship went much smoother than Roy had imagined.
Aside from the dragon’s reverse scale being directly given by Charlie, this was probably the easiest time yet?
With a light heart, Roy quickened his pace.
As they passed through the long ruins tunnel, a glimmer of light flickered in the distance.
Just as Roy was about to step out of the ruins, the girl suddenly reached out to stop him.
Xue Nuo’s gaze turned icy as she stared into the distance, her expression serious.
“Teacher Xue Nuo?”
“There are enemies.”
Roy’s expression changed, but he saw Cheese and Little White also raise their heads, bending their bodies in a defensive stance.
Before he could ask, the bloodline within him stirred as well, causing a sharp pain in his chest, accompanied by an unpleasant, indescribable discomfort.
It was a feeling he knew all too well.
Only cultists would have such malevolence.
The green scenery in the distance warped due to the high temperature.
In the next moment, Xue Nuo’s pupils constricted as she stepped in front of the young boy.
Flames erupted, and a violent shockwave instantly turned the entrance of the ruins to rubble.
The terrifying strike shook the ground, sending countless birds and beasts fleeing in panic.
A monk, marked with flame patterns, stepped out of the forest, leaving imprints in the earth with each step. Behind him were followers, similarly dark-skinned, wielding fiery curved blades.
He looked at the entrance to the ruins, placed his hands together, and in a sorrowful tone said: “Tragic.”
“Mortal beings are destined to walk towards paradise; why must you both stubbornly resist and prolong the suffering of the mundane world?”
The snow wind howled, sweeping away the smoke and ashes.
The monk frowned slightly, but the dark-haired boy and the Golden-Winged Griffin were nowhere to be found.
Amid falling snowflakes, the Silver-Haired Girl appeared unscathed, her expression devoid of emotion. Not a hint of the other’s aura affected her as she walked forward with a snow-white silver wolf wrapped in menacing cold winds, casting a chilling glare.
“Dare to act against my student, you shall welcome suffering.”
