Chapter 151: Escaping a Disaster
When Roy returned to the lord’s mansion, he felt like he was floating.
Memories of his senior sister bubbled up, reshaping his family status; two happy things perfectly combined.
It’s a win-win, meaning he won twice!
Now, with most of his memories coming back, he was gradually regaining his extraordinary abilities.
However, as his memories returned, he also grew increasingly troubled by Xue Nuo’s situation.
Right now, she hadn’t confronted him likely because she didn’t want to hold it against someone with amnesia.
But once her memories came back, how would he explain Xue Nuo’s involvement?!
While Roy was caught up in his thoughts, a silver-haired figure walked into the room.
“It’s time for dinner.”
Sticking to his principle that no matter the circumstances, eating was the most important thing, Roy cheerfully followed Xue Nuo. But to his surprise, their destination wasn’t the dining hall; it was a courtyard blanketed in snow.
The night was calm, with clear skies and no snow falling.
In the courtyard, candles lit up the seats, and the silver-haired girl glanced back with a soft smile, her presence as serene as moonlight falling into the young man’s eyes: “Tonight, it’s just the two of us.”
On the balcony above them, aside from the excluded elven girl, the other three were already present.
Roy thought he had perfectly impressed Leanna and solidified his family position, unaware that Leanna was having the same thoughts.
Just after getting bullied, with her stockings torn, hair disheveled, and breathless, she could barely stand, leaning on Roy to get back to the carriage. At that moment, Leanna was definitely filled with resentment.
But now, she lowered the neckline of her dress, her eyes shining playfully, teasing Charlotte Reinhardt by flaunting the several “medals of honor” Roy had left on her neck.
“Jealous? You don’t have this, right?”
“Are you sick?!”
Charlotte felt like she was about to explode.
Who understands what family means?!
This wicked woman seduced my knight, and now she expects me to cover for them?! This is a huge humiliation!
“If I hadn’t set a fire to scare everyone off, your flirtation would’ve been on display for all to see, alright?!” Charlotte pointed angrily at her.
“Well, thanks for that,” Leanna smirked insincerely, then casually added, “But Roy actually has the ability to conceal his aura, so it wouldn’t have mattered even if you didn’t help.”
Charlotte was left dumbfounded, feeling completely like a clown for worrying unnecessarily!
She opted to selectively ignore her embarrassing moments, cleared her throat, and wearily warned, “Anyway, we agreed no excessive physical contact, and you’re already on the edge of breaking that rule!”
Leanna shrugged, scoffing at Charlotte’s accusation: “You agreed to no kissing either, and that’s pretty much the same.”
Watching the two throw verbal jabs, the little maid began to understand.
They might be snappy, but the nature of their argument was completely different from before in their master’s room.
Most likely, it had to do with them receiving their master’s affection.
“Don’t bring up the past with Roy,” that was their key point of concern.
And indeed, they hadn’t spoken about their history with their master directly, yet just a few hours of companionship had made him remember everything.
That was enough to prove their bond with him.
In comparison, she…
Reflecting on the young boy’s slightly unfamiliar gaze toward her, the little maid couldn’t help but lower her head, subtly biting her lips.
“Seriously, what are you planning to do?”
Leanna’s suddenly serious tone interrupted Alice’s thoughts.
Charlotte glanced at her casually: “What do you mean, what to do?”
“You know what I’m talking about.” Looking down at the youths seated together in the gazebo, Leanna’s expression dimmed with complexity: “Are you really going to support her?”
Alice’s heart tightened.
Though it seemed unrelated, it made her subconsciously hold her breath.
With a new girl around their master, she should be silently congratulating him. But on the other hand, her heart ached, tinged with bitterness, feeling deeply conflicted.
After a moment of silence, Charlotte countered, “I’m more curious about what you are going to do.”
“I… I don’t have that qualification.” Leanna’s gaze fell, a bitter smile escaping her lips.
Even though everyone held equal status in Roy’s heart, in some matters, the one who got there first had the real decision-making power. Leanna had no objections to that.
Nia, who seemed to be having the most fun, was actually the least concerned about newcomers—at least, that’s how she appeared.
As a later arrival, she had no stance to stop others.
Leanna herself was also a newcomer but had never considered that she could be cut off at the knees by another newcomer, plunging into deep confusion.
But in Charlotte’s view, such avoidance was already enough to show her stance.
“My opinion doesn’t matter.” Charlotte fixed her gaze on the silver-haired figure, exuding a cold detachment typical of someone in a high position, and spoke in a low tone: “The key is whether she has that qualification herself.”
That was the true purpose behind Charlotte proposing the dating rules.
No one is perfect, and neither is Roy.
Xue Nuo’s sensitive identity posed a significant risk by dragging her into the empire’s disputes. Conversely, her connection with Roy could alleviate some pressure.
Being a princess, Charlotte had that much insight.
Whether they were lovers supporting each other through difficulties or if she was just using him for filthy gains, she needed to see for herself the true nature of Xue Nuo Andruwis.
Around this topic, the blonde girl hesitated several times to speak but ultimately said nothing, merely lowering her head in silence.
Leanna was indeed mistaken.
When it came to their master’s happiness, she was the one least qualified to have a say.
————————
Only extraordinary beings like herself and Xue Nuo, unafraid of the cold, could enjoy a meal in this season at the imperial courtyard.
Moonlight and candlelight danced together, while pure white snowflakes decorated the classical courtyard.
Roy didn’t mind the atmosphere. However, Xue Nuo was far from a romantic type.
As his memories returned, his thoughts flowed more smoothly.
It seemed like Charlotte and Leanna were secretly competing, and now Xue Nuo appeared to have joined in their game.
But unlike those two, Xue Nuo’s thoughts were noticeably heavy.
From dinner until now, she hadn’t said a word, which was unusually silent even for her.
But Xue Nuo was never one to give up halfway; she just needed some time.
A considerate gentleman should patiently wait for the lady to gather her thoughts.
As he pondered this, he noticed the girl reaching for the bottle of red wine on the table, and Roy’s eyes widened as he quickly grabbed her pale hand.
“There’s no need for you to worry, Xue Nuo. You don’t need to drown your sorrows in wine, so please don’t harm yourself with this.”
“Roy…” Xue Nuo was momentarily surprised, then nodded and withdrew her hand: “You’re right.”
Though that amount of alcohol wasn’t serious, his consideration was far warmer than any drink.
Now that his memories had returned, his awareness of the atmosphere had also sharpened. How could Roy not notice three pairs of eyes watching from above?
If Charlotte and the others saw Xue Nuo getting drunk and throwing herself at him, it would be chaos… Just thinking about it made Roy shudder.
Seeing she wasn’t going to touch the wine, he quietly sighed in relief.
