Chapter 18: Professional Hate-Mongering
“Ouch! Charlotte! It’s not bear wrestling; could you at least show some martial ethics?”
“Ugh! You just splashed boiling water—what a vicious move!”
“Hmph, I’m targeting your despicable… Meow! Xue Nuo, are you out of your mind? Throwing snowballs?! And you, green tea girl, hurry up and do something useful!”
“What can I do? You’re all mid-tier while I’m low-tier! Should I headbutt you?!”
For a moment, snowballs and boiling water flew everywhere, turning the bathroom into a chaotic mess.
Meanwhile, towels fell off uncontrollably, revealing some lovely spring scenes, but Roy, fearing the fallout, had already retreated to a corner, his appreciation long gone.
It wasn’t the first time he’d seen them bicker. He just thought of it as girls playing with water.
A loud ‘boom’ echoed as a fireball exploded, blackening the wall.
…At least she didn’t blow the wall to bits! That’s something!
Roy forced himself to believe it was just a bit of roughhousing; no need for him to intervene.
Though realistically, he couldn’t even if he tried.
These girls were unbelievable; they couldn’t even bathe without causing a ruckus. At least our little maid was the good one, never fighting or causing trouble.
With that thought, Roy huddled with Alice in the corner.
At that moment, however, he noticed the little maid had her head down, exuding an inexplicable air of disappointment.
Lonely, cold, and pitiful—like a little puppy lost in hope.
Mistaking her demeanor as fear, Roy reassured her, “Alice, there’s no need to be scared; they’re not serious.”
Not that fear would help, since I’m quaking in my boots too.
“No, Alice isn’t scared.” Alice shook her head, her tone still somber. “It’s just…”
“Just what?”
Alice let out a slight sigh before murmuring, “It’s just that I’ve noticed how different I am from everyone else.”
“Charlotte is petite and cute, her skin beautiful; Nia has pure features, full and radiant; Leanna has such a great figure, and Teacher Xue Nuo’s skin is so fair. Compared to them, I feel utterly worthless.”
By the end, Alice’s lament was on the verge of overflowing, her eyes dimmed to the extreme.
I really don’t like hearing that!
Girls aren’t just determined by looks!
Roy felt the need to correct the little maid’s view of self-worth and said, “Appearance is just one part of a person.”
“There are many kinds of beauty; outer beauty is only one kind, while inner beauty is equally important.”
But surprisingly, his words only made Alice hang her head lower.
“Inner…”
“In terms of personality, Alice also lacks charm.”
Alice counted on her fingers, beginning to list the girls’ merits.
“Alice isn’t like Charlotte, who emits pride yet can show shyness effortlessly; I’m not as sweet as Nia. I can’t imitate Leanna’s teasing ways or Teacher Xue Nuo’s strength and poise either.”
Alice hugged her knees, slightly burying her head underwater, releasing a few bubbles in lament.
In terms of looks, personality, or even status, she found herself far inferior to them.
The only area where she could barely compete was with her extraordinary abilities, but as someone not born into a noble family, she found it hard to match their potential.
In fact, even the bloodline tier was already left behind by them.
Honestly, it was expected that someone like her wouldn’t catch her owner’s eye in that particular way.
Underwater, her petite, white toes curled up.
This was Roy’s first time seeing Alice wallowing in self-pity.
A child’s heart is always sensitive. Roy completely understood how hard it could be to be compared to others, which is why he never pointed out “other people’s children” to tease Alice.
Yet, at a certain age, people inevitably start to compare themselves to others.
Realizing one day that those friends she usually joked around with would also have their own standings.
But to Roy, true feelings could traverse the so-called gaps between standings, leaving behind the most straightforward sincerity.
Moreover, Alice was simply worrying unnecessarily; she had no awareness at all!
Let’s not even mention personality; your looks rank you right up there with Charlotte and the others on the beauty list—what’s there to feel inferior about?!
If someone heard you, they’d think you were playing the pity party while sitting on a mountain of gold!
With that thought, Roy complimented, “Honestly, I think Alice is no worse than them.”
Alice raised her head, finally noticing Roy’s unwavering gaze on her.
“Alice’s figure might not be as sexy as the senior’s, and Nia might be fuller, but to look at it another way, she’s cuter and smaller than them. While her skin isn’t as white as Teacher Xue Nuo’s, it’s still fair—it’s just warmer and softer in tone.” Roy glanced at Alice’s chest and joked, “If we have to say it, Alice has already developed much better than a certain princess!”
“As for personality— they’re them, you’re you; there’s no perfect personality in this world. All Alice needs to be is Alice.”
The boy’s warm smile made Alice’s eyes shimmer.
“But this Alice isn’t enough.” Alice still pouted.
“Not enough?”
“Not enough… cute.”
Roy burst out laughing for real this time.
You’re not cute enough? Keep it up and you’ll be asking for trouble!
“I think Alice is already awesome; I like the current Alice!”
“Master…”
Roy placed his hand on the girl’s head.
Her damp golden hair radiated warmth, feeling completely different from before.
Perhaps due to the warm steam, Alice, who was used to head pats, flushed red from head to toe but instinctively rubbed her cheek gently against his palm.
Her soft cheeks lit up like the sun breaking through clouds, leaving no shadows behind, only spilling forth a gentle happiness like a hot spring.
If this isn’t cute, what is?!
Roy couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear, watching Alice snuggle under his hand like a little puppy, thinking he could do this all year without getting tired of it!
“Is Alice cute?”
“Super cute!”
“How cute is she?”
“The cutest in the world!”
“Even cuter than us?”
“Cuter than you…!!!”
I thought so, how could Alice suddenly become this proactive?!
Roy stiffly turned his head, only to see Charlotte and the other girls had stopped fighting, grinning as they stared at him, their eyes devoid of any smiles.
Seriously?! We’re here tearing each other apart, and you’re busy cuddling with your new favorite!
If it were any other girl, Charlotte would have already punched her, showing her what “first come, first served” really means.
But if we’re being honest, Alice was actually the one who stayed by Roy’s side first, yet now she’s the one lagging behind the most.
Looking at the cute one who was shyly sinking underwater, quietly blowing bubbles, Charlotte and the others felt their anger just halve.
The kid finally got close; let’s not fight her for it!
Until a certain black-haired boy, for some reason, decided to poke fun.
“No way, are you all even jealous of Alice now?!”
With a single sentence, he successfully diverted all the hate!
Roy’s carefree laughter effortlessly drew in jealousy, as well as resentment on behalf of Alice!
