Chapter 79: The Odds of Victory
The Child of Light grasped the void, summoning a golden spear.
A whistling sound cut through the air as a thrust came charging in.
The Paladin was unfazed, raising his sword to meet the attack with a slice.
When their weapons clashed, the Holy Light erupted.
The extraordinary waves of pure white and golden energy radiated outward, shaking the surrounding stone pillars.
The saint’s horn had sounded.
The spear danced, the thrusts continued, sword light swept across, creating slashing attacks as both sides engaged in close combat, making it hard to distinguish a victor for the moment.
But the close-quarters testing only lasted a few rounds.
After blocking Alice’s slash once more, Sang stamped hard on the ground, speaking forcefully as he unleashed a powerful surge of Holy Light, using sheer brute force to push Alice back.
Immediately, golden glimmers like fireflies appeared around the Child of Light.
Alice’s eyes sparked, and she hurriedly raised her hand to block.
“Light Fireflies.”
It was a long-range spell similar to Oloria’s, but far more powerful.
Each light point detonated like a cannonball, creating a whirlwind that sent Alice flying.
At a critical moment, Alice activated her “Sanctuary Gauntlet,” forming a shield of Holy Light to block this dangerous attack.
As the smoke began to clear, the blonde girl caught Sang’s presence and countered with three swift sword strikes.
The Holy Light sword energy was sharp as a blade.
Sang’s figure was sliced in half like butter under a hot knife, yet he dissipated into the wind like dust.
Before she could even ponder, Alice felt a chill behind her and quickly turned around.
Sang had already reappeared behind her.
With his spear like a thunderclap, he charged in, unleashing a tremendous blast of golden Holy Light.
Accompanied by a piercing metallic wail, the blonde girl was swept away by an overwhelming force, crashing into the wall.
“I blocked it… got lucky, huh?” Sang rotated his spear single-handedly, returning casually to the center of the arena.
Even with the “Sanctuary Gauntlet,” Alice’s left arm ached from the fierce impact.
The sharp pain made her expression change slightly, but she gritted her teeth and forced her trembling left hand to channel Holy Light to heal.
In just a few seconds, her left arm fully healed, and Alice gripped her sword tightly again as she faced Sang once more.
Sang nodded slightly, “Healing, the most basic ability of Holy Light.”
“But to forcefully raise your level while healing your injuries—how long can your inferior bloodline hold up?”
Alice twirled her sword, responding coldly, “A quick battle is the plan.”
“Ridiculous.”
Sang readied his spear and came at her again.
Holy Light extraordinary beings clearly had a wider array of abilities compared to others.
Among them, the Child of Light, Sang, was undoubtedly the best.
“Shaping Holy Light into a spear.”
“Light Fireflies.”
Illusion—”Light Clone.”
He possessed the close combat skills of Visaria, the long-range attacks of Oloria, and the illusions of Jay—all without being inferior to any of them.
Since his bloodline rank was higher, sheer brute force was enough for him to suppress Alice.
Even if Alice managed to land a few strikes, Sang could effortlessly restore himself with power far superior to hers.
At the start, Alice was merely at a slight disadvantage.
But as her stamina and extraordinary power drained, she began to fall behind, her “Seraph” ability becoming harder to maintain.
Another clash of weapons.
Sang held the spear aloft with one hand, pinning Alice’s sword.
He raised his other hand, summoning faint light points.
But at that moment, Alice’s eyes narrowed, spinning her blade and slipping past Sang from an elusive angle, she slashed back.
Unfortunately, all she cut through was an illusion.
Sang had already slipped behind Alice, summoning fireflies, enveloped in searing golden Holy Light. With a sharp crackle, he struck at the girl’s defenseless side—
At point-blank range, “Fire Flash,” a full power attack of Sequence 6, was enough to shatter her extraordinary armor and deal heavy damage!
However, in the next second, Alice abruptly turned, a chilling glare crossed her eyes as she countered with a strike, piercing through Sang’s palm.
The Child of Light paused for a moment, then swiftly withdrew, using his superior speed to evade the follow-up slash.
In a matter of moments, Sang’s palm healed back to normal due to the Holy Light.
But he sensed an unsettling feeling, instinctively causing unease.
That palm strike should have determined the victor.
Sang’s face flashed a hint of surprise: “Did you see through my illusion?”
“That wasn’t hard,” Alice replied nonchalantly.
Calm and steady, she remained unfazed.
Even with multiple injuries and considerable extraordinary power spent, her stance showed no signs of wavering.
Like a battered hound, bloodied but still baring its fangs, unwilling to concede defeat.
Sang squinted his eyes, slightly agitated.
He was concerned—why was he worried about a mere maid?
This was a trial with a predetermined outcome; what was there to fear?!
That strange emotion was fleeting, but Sang forcibly calmed his inner hesitation with Holy Light, and when he looked back at Alice, he wore a renewed smile.
“Seems you’ve been hiding some tricks.”
“But in the face of absolute power, your tricks are meaningless!”
As his words fell, Sang shattered the ground, launching another strike.
The white spear shot forth like a rainbow, its golden cries echoing, releasing terrifying heat and explosive force from pure Holy Light.
Under Sang’s full-force strike, Alice could only draw her sword to block.
The secret silver sword forged at White Port cracked under the ferocious impact.
The bloodline rank Alice had momentarily maintained through secret means finally dropped back to Sequence 7 at this moment.
Sang didn’t miss the chance, unleashing attack after attack as mercilessly as a wolf that had caught the scent of blood.
The first strike pushed Alice back, the second strike shattered her stance.
When Alice’s defenses were wide open, Sang lunged forward for a direct stab!
However, that inevitable strike was stopped dead in its tracks, like being plunged into a city wall.
Alice’s arm flared white-hot.
A tremendous light converged around her gauntlet, forming a solid wall like copper and iron, deflecting Sang’s full-power strike.
In the next moment, the sword light countered.
Sang withdrew, incredulously covering the bloodied side of his face.
Why?
A full-force strike from Sequence 6 should have completely penetrated Alice’s defenses!
Before Sang could grasp the reason, Alice stepped forward.
This time, Alice’s speed had jumped several tiers.
With the swiftness of a gust, she repeatedly surpassed Sang’s field of view, launching ferocious attacks from his blind spots.
Each time the sword light brushed by, it left bloody lines on Sang’s body.
Sang’s abilities were indeed comprehensive.
Among extraordinary beings, the one with a stronger bloodline rank and a greater variety of extraordinary powers dominated the match.
Ordinary extraordinary beings stood little chance against someone like him with their full capabilities and rank advantages.
But Alice was different.
Her training partner was Roy.
Whether in terms of bloodline rank or extraordinary powers, Alice had never gained the upper hand against Roy.
Fighting against the blood of the False King, who had stubbornly survived countless battles against cultists, was just another day for Alice.
Furthermore, even before the trial began, Roy had briefed her on the abilities, personalities, and even fighting habits of each candidate for the saint, providing strategies to counter them.
“The ability of the Child of Light is quite versatile, but that doesn’t mean you have no chances of winning.”
“The power of the Seraph is far more agile than his; focus your strength in one point, and that will be your winning chance.”
