Chapter 102: The Promise
The summoning wizard was feeling a bit puzzled.
Wasn’t this just a formality, so why the sudden appearance of two A-Rank Adventurers?
Are A-Rank Adventurers this idle nowadays?
However, to the other Adventurers around, Hex’s registration took on a different meaning.
No Adventurer is bored enough to join in for no reason!
“First the Sword Demon, then the Fighter…”
“Brothers, you all get it, right?”
Everyone exchanged glances, their expressions sharpening.
The matter concerning the Purple Magic Society’s war might not be as simple as it seemed. With two A-Rank Adventurers signing up, it was likely they received insider information that there was money to be made!
There’s money to be earned!
Thinking about this, they couldn’t sit still any longer.
With such a significant conflict, even if they couldn’t feast, couldn’t they at least have a cup of soup?
Reid, the Lightning Gun, boldly raised his hand.
“Friends, take me with you!”
With him taking the lead, a group of Adventurers eagerly stood up to register.
“Take me too!”
“Me as well!”
“The Society is in trouble; I have to lend a hand!”
Hex froze momentarily before realizing that this mission indeed had hidden agendas and profit, otherwise, so many Adventurers wouldn’t be signing up to dive into the mess!
Roy was baffled; he was here for the fate-altering nodes and Leanna, so why did all these folks want to jump into trouble? Are Adventurers really this free nowadays?
The Red Mage… he couldn’t be dazed for long because with so many people signing up, he struggled to jot down the names.
Who knew he was just going through the motions but ended up with so many Adventurers? He didn’t even know if the Society’s military budget could handle this…

“Those treacherous bastards!”
Inside the Cassandra Family Mansion, the chief Purple Mage, Marvin, had lost all his previous calmness and decorum as he berated the servant who came to report.
“Damn cultists! Without our Cassandra Family, how could they have been safe in the Academy City for so long? They caused this mess, and now they just up and leave!”
“The Cult of the Dread Dragon, All Things Wither, Abyss Stalkers, Necromancer Society—every last one of them is scum!”
It’s no wonder Marvin was riled up.
The six major factions would crush them in an instant, and he initially hoped those cultists would block the attacks for them, but unexpectedly, these guys ran away faster than rabbits at a crucial moment.
Until a steady, dark voice broke through the tension.
“It’s fine. I never counted on them anyway.”
“The matters of the Purple Magic Society will be resolved by us.”
Hearing that voice, Marvin snapped back to reality, looking at the middle-aged gentleman standing with his hands behind his back. His restlessness faded half as much, and his eyes became slightly clouded.
He instinctively opened his mouth, but his thoughts were shrouded in fog. “B-but…”
“There are no ‘buts.’” Dia stepped forward, gently patting his shoulder, whispering in his ear with a grin that held a hint of manipulation.
“Since the day I took you in, when have I ever lied to you?”
“Go prepare. Let our enemies witness the wrath of the Purple Magic Society.”
“… Yes.”
With that, the chief mage turned like a puppet on strings, leaving the room along with the similarly stiff servants.
Only then did Dia let his smile fade, pondering over the report he had received.
“They’re leaving so quickly; looks like these cultists have other hiding places in Academy City.”
“Heh, human infighting is always so amusing.”
He turned to the corner where a purple-haired, purple-eyed beauty was slumped.
Lisanna’s gaze was vacant, but upon closer examination, one could see her fingers trembling slightly, as if fighting back with all her might.
“Truly remarkable for one who bears that esteemed ancestor’s blood; even unawakened, she possesses such resistance to my power by simply following the correct path.” Dia couldn’t help but praise.
He approached the beautiful woman, wearing a mocking expression, admiring her struggles from above.
“You know this is futile.”
“Humans obsessed with infighting can’t save you; they will only devour the Purple Magic Society you built. But there’s no need to be sad; most of the Society has belonged to me for years now.”
“Everything is proceeding according to my plan.” At this, Dia looked out into the dark night and chuckled coldly.
“Don’t worry; you and your daughter will reunite soon.”
In the corner, Lisanna’s fingers suddenly lifted for a moment.
But that was all.
——————————
When Roy got home, he was still puzzled as to why the Adventurers were so enthusiastic about the impending conflict.
But he didn’t dwell on it too long.
Putting reasons aside, more combat power is always better; a hundred Adventurers combined is already quite a formidable force.
Though it couldn’t match the Purple Magic Society, it was comparable to those less combat-oriented factions.
The Magic Society had dispatched personnel to seal all the Purple Magic Society’s strongholds, and it was expected to take action officially by the weekend.
Just right, Roy had some other preparations to make.
But before that, he needed to explain things to his little maid.
“So, master is going to help the president?”
“Yep. Of course, aside from the Society’s reasons, helping them out does no harm.”
“Understood, Alice.”
The little maid never questioned his decisions.
But the next sentence made Roy pause.
“This time, please take Alice with you.”
“Huh?”
“Alice is already Sequence 7; she’ll be able to help Master.”
Faced with the little maid’s earnest request, Roy couldn’t help but smile wryly.
True, the little maid was already Sequence 7, and considering her unique bloodline and combat abilities, even against an average Sequence 6, she wouldn’t easily lose. If facing an opponent weak to Holy Light, she might even stand a chance at a higher rank.
Efficiency-wise, perhaps he should bring her along.
But that was in typical circumstances.
If it was monster hunting or regular adventures, Roy would naturally take her.
But the dangers of the fate-altering nodes were unpredictable and uncontrollable.
Right now, Alice was far from able to handle such risks.
At the very least, she should wait until she truly becomes a Saint, right?
Roy casually said to the girl across from him, “No need; you stay home and wait for me.”
Alice’s eyes flickered, but then she thought a maid shouldn’t defy her master’s wishes. After a long hesitation, she weakly replied, “But Alice wants to help Master…”
“You’re already helping a lot.”
“Huh?”
Seeing the little maid’s confused expression as she tilted her head, Roy couldn’t help but chuckle, “It’s precisely because Alice is waiting for me at home that I can feel at ease outside.”
Every time he thought about her waiting for him at home, Roy felt warm and knew he couldn’t fall in battle outside. In dire moments, he would grasp hope, steady his belief, and find strength.
“So worry not; I promise you no matter what happens, I will come back.”
Roy reached out, affectionately ruffling her fluffy golden hair.
Alice squinted her eyes dreamily, softly humming as she felt the worries in her heart gradually dissipate under his touch.
She had never doubted her master’s promise.
