Chapter 99: Roy is Tired
Well, whether it’s the reverse命节点 or the war with the Demon Race, the fierce battles in the desert felt like events from another world.
A so-called holiday is just meant for relaxation…
Roy preferred to lounge around like this, enjoying the sea breeze, rather than making a name for himself on the battlefield.
But just as he was indulging in his laziness, a somewhat proud compliment rang in his ears, pulling Roy from his sleepy state.
“I hear you did well this time, my knight.”
Roy blinked and found the red-haired princess sitting next to him, maintaining a somewhat proper posture despite her eager eyes sparkling with a certain expectation, glancing at him from time to time.
“First, you defeated the Flame Demon, then you slayed the leader of the Dark Magic, and made the Kingdom of Gold Sands and the Sorcerers’ Guild respect you as the commander; that’s the kind of flair a knight from my kingdom should have!”
“If we’re talking about flair, Charlotte, you’re not too shabby yourself. I heard that Elivrit didn’t have the upper hand against you.”
The primal fire is the pinnacle of all fires; whether it’s the dragon clan’s flame or the demon race’s magic flame, they’re all slightly inferior in comparison.
Thinking that the grand Flame Demon couldn’t get the better of her twice while playing with fire, Roy felt a little sorry for the opponent.
His praise made Charlotte’s lips curl into a smile, but the girl still forced a pout and glared at him, “Hmph, how dare you say that? As a knight, you’re ordering the princess around; you’ve got some guts.”
Roy felt a bit guilty bringing that up.
The forces in Veszyra were never truly united; after the war with the dragons, the Lionheart Kingdom was severely weakened, and Charlotte leading a bunch of griffon knights to aid was primarily for herself.
Of course, Roy was filled with gratitude: “Isn’t it because I believe in the majestic Princess? Only you could save Gold Sands Fortress at that time and uphold the peace of the human world.”
“So you admit my achievements then?” Charlotte raised an eyebrow.
“Absolutely?”
“Since that’s the case, according to the kingdom’s customs, shouldn’t we reward those who have made contributions?”
“……Huh?”
Roy abruptly felt that the topic had taken an awkward turn.
Wait, you’re the princess, I’m the knight; who’s rewarding whom here? How does one even ask their subordinates for a reward?
“Ahem, of course, I don’t particularly care about material possessions. But, for your efforts in supporting us, shouldn’t you express a bit of gratitude as the commander on the same side?”
Charlotte’s gaze drifted a bit, her voice suddenly soft and tinkling like wind chimes: “For instance, come to my room tonight.”
The huge villa was suddenly so quiet that all one could hear was the echo of the sea breeze.
The elven girl let her arms fall, the brown-haired witch looked up in surprise, and even the blonde girl pouring tea paused her actions.
And Roy suddenly opened his eyes wide, fully awake, looking at the red-haired girl twirling her hair, feeling both amused and exasperated.
So all this circling around was just to ask for some rations, huh?!
But Charlotte wasn’t going to get her way that easily.
“Wait, wait, wait, can we hit the pause button here?”
A light figure, as swift as the wind, unexpectedly floated over from behind and hugged him. The sudden weight pressed down on Roy, making him feel enormous pressure.
The elven girl pouted, looking quite displeased: “Charlotte, you just took off on the challenge we agreed upon?”
“What do you mean take off? Whoever defeats Elivrit gets to date Roy first, and I contributed the most in that battle, so I should go first!” The previously shy princess appeared very confident in front of her rival.
This made Nia laugh in disbelief.
“What do you mean you contributed the most? Weren’t you just trading punches with the demon? I dealt way more damage, okay?!”
“There’s no way you would have had the chance to deal damage without my pressure holding the enemy down! To be fair, I might not have an accomplishment, but I certainly toiled!”
Before they knew it, the blonde saintly maid also chimed in, looking at Roy with bright eyes, eager for recognition: “Master, Alice also played a role. I used high-tier power to cut off a wing of the Flame Demon.”
“Oh, I heard about that, really impressive.”
As he rubbed the soft golden hair of the saintly girl, she immediately beamed with a smile warmer than the southern sun.
If the warriors of Gold Sands Fortress saw that day when the holy knight cut down the flame demon and swept through the battlefield, they’d be utterly shocked to see such a cute expression.
Unfortunately, the moment didn’t last long as both girls were pulled away by a jealous ruckus.
“You all have had enough! Clearly, it was me who withstood the Flame Demon’s fire, so I contributed the most to this fight!”
“Hey, it’s not like you didn’t see me swinging my sword! If we’re talking contributions, I did the most!”
The blonde girl weakly raised her hand, still carrying a hint of stubbornness: “But Alice was the one who ultimately decided the victory. According to your wager, it’s only right that Alice serves the Master first…”
“What’s only right is a load of crap! You didn’t even say you wanted to be part of the wager!” Charlotte and Nia couldn’t help but complain in unison.
Caught in the middle of a three-way dispute, Roy felt a major headache.
Moreover, at this moment, he had some unspoken dilemmas that made it difficult to meet their demands.
I’m sorry, Lord Viscount, but it seems they’re about to cause even more chaos than you imagined…
Just then, a cheeky laugh broke in.
“I can’t stand it, these impatient little sisters are really noisy.”
“Like you don’t care, do you? If you’re so brave, don’t touch him,” Charlotte shot back on the spot.
Leanna wasn’t backing down either, shooting her own killer line: “Why should I? Just because your chest is the smallest?”
“Excuse me?!”
The princess immediately stood up, flame-like cat ears shooting up from her head.
But Leanna wasn’t afraid, casually propping herself up from her lounge chair, her skin revealing beautiful golden snake scales.
The remnants of the soul of Mebius had been annihilated; what stood before them was a true mythical creature belonging to the Earth Mother, the serpent queen Mebius.
While the two faced off, the elven girl’s hand was nonchalantly moving toward Roy’s chest, but the blonde girl swiftly intervened, opening her arms expressionlessly, like a loyal dog defending her master.
At this point, Roy didn’t even think he would feel this calm about it. In fact, it felt quite reasonable, like a familiar scene from his memories.
However, he would no longer be flustered by such minor disturbances.
Ignoring everyone, Roy walked to the balcony edge, gazing smoothly toward the coastline at a 45-degree angle, a faint sorrow and calm washing over his face.
“Sorry, everyone, not today.”
“I’m not singling anyone out; I just mean all of you.”
“Today, I’m a bit tired and just want to rest properly for the night, okay?”
Looking at the exhausted expression on the young boy’s face, which resembled a still pond, Charlotte and the others exchanged glances, no longer able to feign the same kind of noise.
