Chapter 10: The Deafening Silence
The Student Council Office.
A young mage from the Yellow Magic Academy, wearing a yellow robe, was seriously explaining the situation in the West.
In the president’s chair, the brown-haired witch leaned back casually, crossing her black-stockinged legs, her long skirt and uniform struggling to conceal her graceful figure, with a faint smile hovering on her lips.
Under the setting sun, her subtle expressions resembled the elusive aroma of coffee—elegant yet lazy.
This made the young mage a bit nervous.
Despite being younger, the presence of such an outstanding female made anyone feel shy.
Like a peacock desperately showing off its feathers, the representative from the Yellow Magic Academy was doing his best to explain the mission assigned to Leanna.
But sadly, beneath the smile of the witch, her thoughts had drifted far away.
Outside the Desperate Defense Line in the Kingdom of Golden Sands, signs of unrest from the Demon Race had been detected, with suspected Demon Race forces infiltrating the line, causing significant losses.
Considering the lessons learned from the empire’s border, the Kingdom of Golden Sands quickly sent out requests for aid to all factions.
As the center of the continent, the Mage Academy responded promptly, planning to send mages to investigate the abnormalities at the defense line and provide timely support should anything go awry.
The Yellow Magic Academy specialized in carving and alchemy, making them the main force for stabilizing the defense line.
Their combat capability was quite limited, so recently, the academy had been gathering personnel to serve as protective forces for this mission.
The witch’s information network was no joke; aside from the top seven magic academies, Leanna was the first to be informed about the internal matters of the academy, already having made up her mind that this meeting was merely a formality.
As the chief of two academies, she was duty-bound in times like this.
Moreover, there was something about the Kingdom of Golden Sands that piqued her interest and needed investigating.
But going meant she would have to be apart from Roy for a long while.
Thinking about this, Leanna couldn’t help but let out a slight sigh, growing a bit impatient with the young mage’s incessant talk.
If it weren’t for this annoying guy, it would have been a perfect holiday afternoon with a book, a cup of coffee, and a junior to chat with before her departure.
Roy should be home by now, right?
I wonder if he’s on another date with that little fox…
Whatever.
At this point, Leanna had grown quite indifferent about sharing the boy with other girls, even finding it somewhat amusing.
After all, no matter how extravagant their fun was, I could have way more fun~
With a hint of mockery in her tone, Leanna flicked her fingers, activating the Shadow of the Dark Magic Serpent.
Let me see which sneaky cat is trying to play house…
“Miss Leanna? Are you listening?”
Leanna lifted her gaze to the young mage in front of her, but one eye was already catching a glimpse of what her familiar was observing: “You were talking about inviting me to the Desperate Defense Line for support, right?”
“Sure, I accept.”
“I know this mission originally belongs to the Yellow Magic Academy and shouldn’t trouble you, but considering the current situation at the defense line, we sincerely hope you will reconsider…?!”
The young man was momentarily stunned, then ecstatic.
Without this commission, he might never have had the chance to speak to her in his life.
Inviting the most outstanding talent in the academy’s history to join him was something any young mage would find hard not to feel proud about.
Definitely going, it was already a done deal.
Leanna didn’t pay much attention to his reaction, focusing instead on the escorting duo of master and servant in the room.
This is hilarious; he’s so easy to deal with… huh?!
In an instant, the corner of Leanna’s eye twitched slightly.
“Um, Miss Leanna, if it’s convenient, could we perhaps have dinner together to discuss the details of our journey…”
“Sorry, I have things to do and need to head back.”
“Wha— but…”
“No ‘buts.’”
Leanna stood up languidly, her breath slightly uneven, and the shadows around her deepened, chilling the entire room’s air.
Having no clue which word had triggered her, the nearly teary-eyed young man could only obediently shut up.
Leanna ignored him further, quickly striding out of the room while flicking her fingers to inform everyone of the news.
Her little snake could convey short phrases, but she didn’t vocalize; instead, she shared everything she saw.
The elven girl shopping with her roommate, the princess leading a faction meeting, and the icy teacher giving a lecture—all had their expressions change abruptly.
Thanks to their little black snake, everyone saw the embarrassing scene inside the room.
————————
Back to the present.
“Ha ha ha, guess what I just found out?”
The slightly disheveled, slightly out of breath witch was the first to step into the room.
Followed closely were Charlotte and the others, also hurrying in.
The pair couldn’t hide from the inevitable.
How did I end up back here so quickly?!
Under the girls’ murderous stares, even the most enthusiastic flames would extinguish, and the silenced boy could only silently climb off Alice and retreat to the side.
Leanna shot him an icy glare before turning to Alice.
With a brazen gaze, she took in Alice’s tousled blonde hair, disordered uniform, and flushed face, Leanna let out a cold laugh.
While we’re out minding our business, you’re having a rendezvous at home?
What a golden-haired little…!
Beneath that pure exterior, you’re all about getting wild, even doing a uniform play—thinking I, the Student Council President, don’t exist?!
Leanna struggled to contain her fury: “What leisurely activities do you have in broad daylight? Looks like the saintess’s duties aren’t that pressing after all.”
Leanna wasn’t the only one feeling angry.
Alice’s breath gradually calmed down, her azure eyes no longer burning with desire but instead freezing over in icy anger.
Anyone would be furious to have such a beautiful moment interrupted so abruptly.
Usually, Alice had little fluctuation in her emotions, but matters concerning Roy were a different story.
Having her intimate moment rudely broken, the simmering irritation mixed with accumulated jealousy finally erupted.
Alice replied flatly, “And so what?”
“Alice just so happens to be free, and it’s only natural that she alleviates the master’s loneliness.”
“Oh, lonely? Are you feeling lonely recently?” Leanna shot a question at Roy.
The latter dared not even breathe, maintaining complete silence.
Leanna sneered: “I doubt that.”
“Compared to my junior’s loneliness, it’s obviously that little golden-haired vixen who can’t restrain herself, trying all sorts of tricks to entice my good junior, isn’t it?”
With the mask ripped off, Alice’s face burned up slightly.
Some people would feel incredibly embarrassed when their mask was pulled off.
But others, instead, would become more defiant.
After all, for a girl like her with a rather unconventional mindset, this wasn’t something she’d shy away from confessing.
“That’s right. Alice is her master’s dog!”
“Is there a problem with a dog playing with her master?”
The girl’s straightforward inquiry resonated throughout the room.
For a moment, the silence in the room was deafening.
