Chapter 14: Heartbeat
“Are the outsiders doing alright?”
Roy couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth.
Having frequently come to the Black Magic Mansion to meet Leanna, Roy was as familiar with this place as his own backyard. They even prepared a bedroom specifically for him.
Not paying much attention to the hindrance posed by several yellow wizards, Roy shifted his gaze to the distance.
There, a somewhat decent-looking, slightly awkward yellow-haired wizard was respectfully greeting Leanna, holding a colorful bouquet of flowers, his shy smile laced with a hint of flattery.
Oh, got it.
The charming and talented dual-major top student lacked prominent backing, making her the top pick for marriage alliances in the eyes of the other factions.
And as for Leanna’s own allure, it’s needless to say.
After all, Roy had experienced it firsthand.
But for the yellow-haired suitor, Roy felt some inner stirrings — he just couldn’t help but chuckle.
Expensive jewelry and vibrant flowers were indeed the classic and safest choices to please a girl.
But there’s always an exception.
Having once fallen from grace and tasted the bitterness of society, Leanna wasn’t overly fond of luxury goods. As for flowers, in her words, those were things that “little girls” liked, while autumn’s maple leaves were what “women” should appreciate.
As Roy anticipated, Leanna, elegantly clad in a black dress, maintained a polite smile, though it was clear her brow furrowed slightly.
She was obviously speechless.
Sad.
The so-called urgent matter of the Yellow Magic faction was already off to a rocky start.
As Roy watched with amusement, the yellow wizard’s impatience began to show.
“Classmate, if there’s nothing important, would you please leave?”
“What do you mean nothing important? I’ve got something very important.”
“Did you not understand? We in the Yellow Magic faction have urgent matters…”
“I need to see Senior Leanna to bid her farewell. Can you kindly let her know?”
Looking at the boy’s earnest expression, the wizards couldn’t help but break into laughter.
Another smitten admirer, completely enchanted by the witch — no clue which noble’s son he was.
But the witch belonged to their Yellow Magic Chief, how could they allow these guys to intervene?
One wizard scoffed, “No offense intended, but may I ask what your relationship with Miss Leanna is?”
Roy thought for a moment, “I’m her junior.”
Junior? Just a classmate? Is that it?
They thought it must be a strong competitor, but turns out they weren’t even friends?
Finally, someone couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Roy maintained his smile, “Is there a problem?”
The loudest laughing yellow wizard arrogantly glanced over, practically looking down his nose at him.
“No, you really cracked me up. Can’t you see what’s happening right now? Miss Leanna is busy meeting with her friends and doesn’t have time for someone like you…”
“Uh-huh, that may not be the case.”
The sudden laughter froze the yellow wizards as if they had fallen into an icy chasm, especially the most audacious one, who was left speechless.
Leanna and the Yellow Magic Chief had somehow appeared behind them, and everyone could only force a smile.
The young Yellow Magic Chief said apologetically, “Miss Leanna, please forgive their raucousness.”
“Back off — before Miss Leanna gets upset.”
The wizards sulked away, only Roy stood there with a grin, causing the Yellow Magic Chief to feel quite displeased.
This kid really has no situational awareness… huh? Black hair, black eyes, seems familiar…
“Classmate, Miss Leanna has things to attend to. If you have no urgent matters, please wait…”
“Actually, I’m not in such a rush.”
Leanna interrupted the Yellow Magic Chief with her voice.
“Huh? But…”
“Thank you for your gift, but aiding us is the faction’s duty, so I appreciate your kindness. Please take back the flowers and treasures; you can leave the carriage as proof of friendship between the factions.”
Then, to everyone’s astonishment, Leanna directly linked her arm with Roy’s and led him to the carriage.
The very same carriage that the Yellow Magic Chief had spent a fortune and great effort to bring all the way from the Kingdom of Gold Sands.
“Who on earth is this guy…”
When it comes to the faction’s bigger picture, he dared not offend this Black Magic Chief.
At least not now.
But as for this guy who dared to step in before him, that’s another matter.
The young chief clenched his fists in frustration, glaring at the shadow of the graceful figure next to him, jealousy igniting in his eyes.
Inside the carriage.
“Honestly, this carriage is quite impressive.”
With its soft velvet cushions, elegant mahogany interior, and the spacious carriage adorned with exquisite magical candles, it created a wealthy ambiance.
Roy leaned into the comfortable seat, feeling a bit reluctant to leave.
Leanna feigned sorrow, “So compared to me, is the carriage more to your taste?”
“How could that be? I’m just concerned about your journey, Senior!”
Roy chuckled, and then boldly wrapped an arm around her slender waist, provoking a light laughter from her as well.
No velvet could ever be softer than that delicate waist.
Just as he was immersed in appreciating the senior’s good figure, he suddenly heard a calm voice beside him: “Running over to keep your senior company in broad daylight, does your princess and maid know?”
Roy paused for a second but then boldly leaned against Leanna’s shoulder.
“And what if they do? It’s only natural for me to come and ease a bit of burden for you since you’re heading out, right?”
Leanna seemed somewhat satisfied, tilting her head playfully without stopping him, letting the boy’s hand move tactically along her graceful waistline.
The breeze brushed by, pleasantly lovely.
The body of the mature woman subtly relaxed, and the atmosphere gradually grew warmer, causing Leanna to softly squint her eyes, shedding some of her usual decorum, revealing her delicate charm and sensuality.
After a while.
Roy, who had his arm resting on the girl’s shoulder, gave a faint sigh.
“Honestly, you didn’t need to come out personally.”
“I can ask the headmaster to help push this task back.”
The academy headmaster was a bona fide ally, so it wouldn’t be out of place to ask him to take care of Leanna.
Leanna opened her eyes, “Pushing back the task is what isn’t necessary.”
“Are you worried about me? That’s quite sweet of you.”
As she spoke, Leanna turned her face toward the boy, a teasing smile forming on her lips.
In the next second, her mysterious purple eyes widened in surprise.
Because the boy suddenly leaned in and hugged her tightly, as if he didn’t want to let go of a toy.
He didn’t deny it, instead whispering, “Senior, you shouldn’t have to strain yourself like before.”
Inside the carriage, the candle flames flickered.
At that moment, Leanna felt an unusual silence.
So quiet that all she could hear was her own uncontrollable heartbeat.
