Chapter 78: Don’t Be Absurd!
There are two most common ways to tame magical beasts.
One is to show overwhelming force and awe the fierce creatures into submission.
Rumor has it that Robert Reinhardt gained the approval of the royal griffin only after battling it for a whole day and night. So many young folks think they can replicate the glory of the old king.
The result? Blood on the cliffs. Many barely step onto the scene before getting knocked out by the griffin’s fierce attacks.
Anyone who knows a thing or two about griffins understands how ridiculous this approach is.
In the past decade or so, the number of people who have managed to tame a griffin with force is negligible. Statistically speaking, this method is clearly unreliable.
So most people opt for the second approach.
“Idiot, stop it!”
“Throw out the food!”
Those contestants not attacked by the griffins pulled out roasted meat, fruits, and even fine wine, tossing them into the air in an attempt to lure the griffins.
That’s right, if brute force doesn’t work, tempting them with food is the next best bet.
Too bad, griffins are far from ordinary magical beasts.
Most magical beasts have fixed dietary preferences; at the very least, they divide into meat or plant eaters.
But each griffin has its own quirks.
Some griffins eat meat, some eat plants, and some, like Charlotte’s cake, don’t eat either—just sweet stuff.
No one can predict a griffin’s taste in advance, so they can only guess wildly.
Of course, aside from these two common methods, there are folks who resort to other historical tales of taming griffins, such as waving red cloth, tossing out gems, or even having a beautiful girl dance on the spot… you name it, they’ve tried it.
Contestants’ tactics are all over the place.
Unfortunately, most strategies don’t yield great results.
Ten minutes into the trial, griffins either mercilessly tossed contestants off the cliff or just lounged around, barely lifting their eyelids.
Naturally, not a single contestant would give up easily.
With so many griffins on Griffin Ridge, even if this attempt was fruitless, it could simply be a case of not encountering the right griffin.
The higher they climbed, the stronger the griffins became. After repeated failures, the contestants collectively moved toward the top of Griffin Ridge.
Among all the contestants, the attention-grabbing Roy made a move that left everyone baffled.
To be precise, he didn’t do anything.
He didn’t draw his sword, didn’t throw food, didn’t pull any strange stunts—he simply strolled up the hill like he was taking a leisurely stroll in a garden!
“Is that Roy Ainbrad?”
“What’s that guy doing, dawdling around like that?!”
“Could it be he’s scared stiff and can’t move?”
No one understood what Roy was up to.
“Ha, looks like our bet will be settled soon,” Leo sneered at Charlotte.
Roy was just as naïve as he imagined.
Thinking that staying calm would somehow save him?
Even if you don’t take the initiative, the griffins on Griffin Ridge will instinctively attack trial contestants!
In fact, Roy wasn’t the only one doing this, but most contestants had been attacked by griffins and had to flee.
Charlotte didn’t have time to pay attention to Leo’s provocations and was focused on Roy’s figure, gnashing her teeth in anxiety: “Roy, what on earth are you doing?!”
Just as a griffin swooped down towards Roy, Charlotte felt like her heart might stop.
However, that griffin merely hovered above Roy for a moment before flying off in another direction.
Charlotte let out a long sigh, but then another griffin swooped at Roy, almost making her gasp for air.
Leo opened his mouth to rile up Charlotte’s nerves, but to his surprise, this second griffin just squawked at Roy and flew away again.
Charlotte finally breathed a sigh of relief, but Leo’s expression was incredibly perplexed.
Once or twice was one thing, but gradually, it wasn’t just them; even Robert, Leisha, and all the nobility began to notice Roy’s odd behavior!
Under the griffins’ storm-like attacks, Roy seemed to be under an invisible barrier. Not only did he not get attacked, but not a single griffin even landed in front of him!
Leo finally couldn’t hold back and blurted out, “Father!”
Though he didn’t know what trick Roy had pulled, cheating in the griffin trial could lead to losing one’s noble title—a serious offense!
Robert understood what he meant but shook his head: “He isn’t cheating!”
“Not only is he not cheating, he hasn’t even used any extraordinary power!”
Leo was left speechless, momentarily at a loss for words.
Even if he wanted to use illegal extraordinary potions or items, Leo couldn’t figure out what Roy was doing.
In fact, Roy was obviously not cheating at all.
He was simply having a friendly chat with these furry, friendly creatures.
Once a griffin came at him, Roy merely opened his mouth slightly, stopping the ferocious beast in its tracks.
“Wobble a bib bamagulu, makabaka kechipaqi (griffin language: I’ve got nothing to eat, go look for someone else)!”
“Thanks, bro! (griffin language: Much appreciated!)”
And just like that, Roy once again dodged the griffin’s attack without a hitch.
From the moment he saw the griffins, Roy had been pondering how to tame these beasts.
Whether it be force or food, neither truly mattered. The key lay in Charlotte’s earlier commentary about the well-known griffin rule.
‘Every griffin has a distinct personality.’
So, the most important thing was to find a way to communicate with these creatures.
And the Affection Points Shop didn’t disappoint Roy.

Of course, even with a textbook, Roy couldn’t master a language overnight, not to mention that even if he could communicate, his understanding of griffins was incredibly limited.
But the Affection Points Shop is like a treasure trove filled with the legacies of countless civilizations, truly having everything!
【Secrets of the Untamed Sky Beast—Griffin Habits】

【Price: 55 Affection Points】
Roy pulled an all-nighter the previous day, learning the griffin language with the 【Strong Memory Potion】, not to mention he memorized griffin habits like the back of his hand.
At this point, in this era, no one understood griffins better than him!
But when he finally comprehended the griffins’ roars, he couldn’t help but twitch his lips.
For instance, a griffin attempting to duel fairly was hit in the face with a basket of tomatoes as humiliation.
Or griffins, eagerly waiting for food, were sliced and diced by aggressive knights.
Even a good-natured griffin bluntly mentioned it had already set its sights on someone, only for that person to chicken out and drop out of the trial at the last minute.
And all those griffins with unfulfilled desires ultimately became furious, either flying off in a huff or attacking wildly.
How should he put it? These attempts to tame griffins weren’t wrong, but they just didn’t choose the right targets!
Roy couldn’t help but smile wryly, realizing how absurd the scene before him was.
