Chapter 57: The Serenade of Angels
As the icy dragon claw swooped down, Roy swung his sword with determination.
As long as he wasn’t one-shotted, “Unquenchable Fire” would squeeze out more of that Extraordinary Power.
Meanwhile, “True Blood Burst” could enhance a specific buff at the moment of attack, boosting certain bloodline powers.
With “Unquenchable Fire” and “True Blood Burst” combined, it felt like every blood vessel in Roy was ablaze, and the resulting Extraordinary Power wasn’t just a simple accumulation; it was a strike that surpassed rank 5 limits.
So, under the soaring waves of Extraordinary Power, Roy ignited everything with “Embers”.
The crimson dragon flames severed the sky, becoming a dazzling line high above the canyon.
The dragon’s claws followed suit, the momentum of the flames didn’t falter, and the already cracked, melting blade struck down once more, ultimately hitting its target.
A roar shook the heavens.
That slash powered by dragon blood was like a blow from the crimson fire dragon itself, landing squarely on the ice dragon’s head.
Ice crystals melted, and dragon scales shattered. A torrent of dragon blood scattered in all directions.
If Natsu’s earlier strike was just a harmless insult, this one was insult mixed with real harm.
The icy power fell to the ground in a messy heap, while Roy was caught mid-air by the Golden-Winged Griffin, escaping the battlefield.
Countless flying dragons roared in a mix of fury and shock. The human warriors felt invigorated at this moment, even laughing while retreating.
Dragons are not unbeatable. Even the Sky Lord who leads them, standing above the frost, can’t remain arrogant forever.
“Bro, you really pulled it off! Why didn’t you use that move earlier?!”
Cheese chattered excitedly, but Roy could only offer a wry smile in response.
It ain’t that simple!
Just to land that blow beyond the rank 5 limits, he not only got seriously injured but also drained “Unquenchable Fire” of its Extraordinary Power recovery.
To challenge high-tier foes with mid-tier abilities, he had to push it to this extent.
Fortunately, the battlefield was still manageable.
Roy was quite self-aware; trying to utterly kill the frost giant here was akin to chasing clouds. He had already accomplished the goal of buying time.
More than half of his troops had successfully escaped the encirclement, and the remaining dragons were shaken by the frost king’s injury.
There was no need to go toe-to-toe with Maligos anymore.
With “Still Like Water” and the remaining “Dance of Sea Winds”, escaping shouldn’t be too hard…
As he pondered, the ice dragon raised its head again.
“Embers” left another mark in the same spot as before.
That once insignificant wound was now gushing blood, as broken scales continued to fall, making the frost giant look even more ferocious.
Wounded beasts are most dangerous, and an enraged dragon is downright terrifying.
“So that’s how it is; ants biting can actually hurt.”
“Not bad for the False King’s blood, today you’ve truly taught me a lesson.”
“In return, let me teach you something.”
Maligos squinted, killing intent surging as he roared upward, summoning a fierce wind.
“Bitten ants will eventually pay the price, without a burial place!”
The Extraordinary aura of the ice dragon transformed into tangible snow and ice, covering the entire canyon.
The Golden-Winged Griffin could no longer smile: “Big bro, it seems like it’s even angrier now!”
“Do you really need to point that out?!”
Cheese soared into the sky, but couldn’t escape the ensuing blizzard.
Natsu ignited flames for protection, while Karl struggled to activate “Bloodline Awakening” to resist the oncoming chill.
However, the rampaging blizzard intensified, showing no signs of relenting; it was merely the prelude to the frost king’s wrath.
“Bloodline Awakening”.
The true dragon blood unleashed its primordial power. Unlike human Extraordinary Beings who coalesce bloodline shadows and forms, Maligos, being a mythical creature, directly fused the frost’s cold power into himself, radiating an icy glow all over.
Dragon wings trembled.
“Run…!”
Roy’s cry was drowned by the frosty winds.
There was no way to escape.
Flames extinguished in the cold wind, knights solidified in the snow, and even the glimmering gold faded into the endless frost.
Neither the fiery heart of a lion, nor the ironclad knight, nor the soaring griffin could escape the wrath of the sky itself.
The ice-blue gale, mingled with primordial dragon blood, crashed forth like an unstoppable avalanche, devouring, freezing, and solidifying everything in the canyon.
Natsu’s unwilling roar, Karl’s gritted teeth, and the soldiers’ expressions momentarily lingered in joy.
As if time itself had solidified.
Only the ice dragon kin, bathed in the blood of the frost king, danced freely above, mocking the humans’ plight.
However, amidst this blue-tinged world, a dark speck quivered.
Even Maligos couldn’t help but murmur: “Truly tenacious…”
With “Cold Resistance” shielding him and “Flame of Life” protecting his body, Roy barely managed to keep moving under the dual boost.
Yet even so, the frost was relentlessly invading, penetrating through his skin and into his inner organs.
Before long, he too would be completely frozen.
“Ha…”
In this nearly suffocating blizzard, Roy raspily smiled at his opponent: “Forced into a serious fight by an ant; as the king of ice dragons, don’t you feel ashamed?”
The ice dragon’s brow twitched, displeasure evident in his demeanor.
“Still talking tough at death’s door? It makes me want to puke.”
“Fine, I’ll finish you off, along with everything you stand for! Let you pay for tainting dragon blood!”
The ice dragon rose, taking a deep breath.
All the flying dragons fled in terror, fearing they’d be caught in the ensuing blast.
The ability to wield one’s bloodline’s primordial force through “Bloodline Awakening” is indeed powerful, but the real killer move of dragons is still “Dragon Breath”.
A pure destructive beam compressed from immense Extraordinary Power, practically an indestructible spear, a true reliance for dragons standing at the apex.
Yet, at that very moment, Roy moved.
He had been waiting for this!
That moment when “Dragon Breath” must charge!
Dark gold flashed in Roy’s eyes as the rising dark golden dragon might easily dispersed the surrounding blizzard.
The frost dragon king sensed something was off too late.
The overwhelming pressure even froze the ice dragon king for a moment.
The effect of “Dragon Might” exceeded Roy’s expectations; he had only hoped to break through the shackles brought by “Bloodline Awakening”, yet the rank 4 ice dragon was also momentarily stunned.
How could he miss this once-in-a-lifetime chance?
Roy drew his sword.
A holy light surged from him, phantom wings unfurled behind him, and a pillar of light shot up to the sky, dispelling the ice and silver wings shrouding the canyon.
Feathers of light drifted down, accompanied by an ethereal sigh.
“The Serenade of Angels”.
Just like the Seraph, it could instantly elevate his bloodline level, even break through the punitive limits of mid-tier versus high-tier; if only for an instant, Roy had indeed stepped into the realm of mythology.
Dragon flames rekindled.
Holy white and crimson flames intertwined, crashing down together, piercing through the ice-blue frost and completely penetrating the body of the ice dragon.
