Chapter 98: The King’s Negotiation
Roy remembered that voice.
The maid Lisa, who took care of Charlotte’s daily needs, was also her most trusted friend.
Delivering breakfast was her duty.
But really, what timing is this?!
Roy hurriedly searched for his clothes, only to awkwardly realize that they had turned to shreds and ashes.
Tearing clothes felt great for a moment, but now it felt like a funeral pyre.
Staring at the naked beauty in his arms, Roy despaired as he couldn’t find even a single pair of underwear.
Meanwhile, the knocking grew more intense.
The prolonged silence clearly worried Lisa: “Your Highness? Is everything alright? May I come in?”
“Wait, hold on!”
I really didn’t want the maid to see the post-battle scene and laugh about it! It would be a public execution!
Roy quickly woke up Charlotte: “Your maid is here, think of something!”
Charlotte, still dazed, widened her trembling eyes in sheer terror upon hearing this.
Unfortunately, the princess hadn’t made much progress in terms of composure. She didn’t want Lisa—who had served her since she was little—to see her like this.
For Roy, being seen by outsiders was merely humiliating; for her, it would be catastrophic—an explosive embarrassment.
“I-I’m fine!”
After stuttering for what felt like ages, Charlotte finally managed to squeak that out, her breath held in panic, signaling Roy with her eyes to handle it.
Getting a response, Lisa relaxed a bit: “Lord Roy? May I ask about the princess…”
“Charlotte is, um, not in a very convenient position right now. Please just leave the breakfast outside.”
A qualified maid should understand subtlety, Roy thought he had hinted clearly enough.
To his surprise, she became more perceptive.
“…May I ask if the princess is in bed right now?”
That question hit right where it hurt, landing a critical blow.
Both Roy and Charlotte froze, unable to lift their heads in awkwardness.
After all the noise from last night, although they hadn’t planned to hide anything, Roy could already imagine Lisa, no, the whole castle’s nobles and maids gossiping and laughing about their scandal.
After a long pause, Roy finally sighed while covering his face: “Yes.”
“I see, then I won’t disturb you further.”
Once Lisa’s presence faded, both Roy and Charlotte let out a sigh of relief.
Charlotte’s eyes had lost their twinkle.
“Ugh, I’m going to be the talk of the town, with rumors about how the princess is desperate and wild… ugh.” Just thinking about it made her blood pressure rise and her face turn beet red.
Let’s be honest, you really did go all out last night.
Amused in his heart, Roy consoled her: “Next time I’ll be more careful.”
“Right, I’ll go find you some clothes.”
Suddenly left alone after a night together, Charlotte felt an empty longing, speechless.
The royal chambers were equipped with a wardrobe full of both male and female clothing.
Roy randomly grabbed a pair of pants and started looking for clothes for Charlotte.
“Take a look and see what you’d like to wear…?”
A warm and soft sensation came from behind, highlighting her delicate and petite figure, like a cloud gently drifting in after a mild sun exposure.
Without any excess fabric to hide, she basked in the luxuriousness that felt smoother than silk.
“Charlotte?”
“Are you sure your bloodline is back to normal?”
Roy swallowed: “It’s pretty much normal now.”
“But, but just to be safe, shouldn’t we double-check?”
“Lisa is urging us, isn’t it bad to waste more time?”
“…Just once shouldn’t take too long, right?”
As she spoke, her graceful arms wrapped around him.
Rational analysis!
Just once shouldn’t take long; let’s keep it quick!
He turned around, scooping up the girl and casually tossing her on the bed.
The soft and exquisite curves, still lingering with the blush from yesterday, looked even more tantalizing under the warm sunlight; Charlotte’s petite figure was like a sweet strawberry coated in dew.
Leaning down to taste her sweetness, Roy smiled gently: “Your worries are valid; my dragon blood is indeed feeling a bit restless again.”
——————————
“Kid, glad to see you’ve fully recovered.”
In the late morning, Roy finally emerged from the room only to be escorted by a bunch of knights to the conference room.
Waiting for him was the stone-faced Lionheart King Robert Reinhardt, whose expression was frightening, claiming to be happy yet looking ready to devour someone with his gaze.
“Uh, th-thank you, Uncle Robert, for your concern.”
“Ha, ‘uncle’ now? You brat, you must’ve been wanting to call me father-in-law for a while!”
Roy was drenched in sweat.
Last night’s uproar could hardly be hidden, but having it pointed out by Robert, who was not only family but the current king, made Roy feel like he was sitting on needles.
He even suspected this old man would suddenly toss him out of the castle.
But the displeased gaze didn’t linger long, turning into a weary sigh.
Due to family connections, shared experiences in battle, and truly exceptional achievements even Roy, the fake dragon slayer, couldn’t deny it.
Even if Robert wanted to find fault, he couldn’t quite do so.
Frustrated but nonetheless satisfied.
“What are you afraid of? After all, Charlotte agreed, didn’t she? I can’t exactly eat you!”
“But you better not bully her in the future; otherwise… you know the deal.” Robert casually cracked his knuckles, making them crackle ominously.
“Got it, got it!” Roy repeatedly agreed, conversing amicably.
He knew how proud the Reinhardt family was. This warning was actually a roundabout acknowledgment.
But Uncle Robert, did you forget? Your daughter bites when she gets excited! I’m still sore from it; it’s hard to tell who’s bullying whom!
“Alright, kid, overall, I’m still somewhat at ease.”
“Now let me meet her.”
Robert dropped the serious demeanor, making the atmosphere feel somber instead.
“Is it okay? Lord Bahamut?”
“Hmm, I also happen to want to discuss with your majesty.”
After getting the dragon king’s consent, in the next moment, the leader of the dragons revealed his ghostly form.
The shadow of the former king consumed him, but since Roy stepped into a higher tier, after so many days of rest, Bahamut seemed even better than before, exuding a denser aura.
Mythical beings didn’t need fancy clothes; their mere existence radiated a majesty that compelled obedience. Not to mention this was the legendary Lord of the Skies, the dragon king commanding countless dragons.
Even Robert couldn’t help but twitch slightly, surprised by that power.
“Greetings, Dragon King.”
“Your majesty is too kind; I’m but a remnant spirit; you’re the true king here.”
Both parties exchanged pleasantries, entirely following the formalities of noble social interaction, leaving Roy with an uncanny sensation akin to watching family elders politely greet each other.
“First of all, I must apologize for the actions of the dragon race. A thousand years ago, due to my poor discipline, Nidhogg fell, causing chaos for our race; the prolonged war is undoubtedly my fault.”
After his apologies, the old man squinted, switching gears: “But…”
“Lionheart King, there are other paths for our two races beyond just war.”
“Apart from the tainted dragons, there remains a considerable number of unhatched young dragons in the mountains. They are innocent and I hope your majesty won’t let the fire of war spread to them.”
Having been a king for over a decade, Robert was well-versed in handling matters, but Roy caught a glimpse of the flicker of killing intent that flashed in Robert’s eyes upon hearing about the young dragons still surviving, making him a bit helpless.
It seemed that the negotiations between the two kings wouldn’t be smooth sailing after all.
