Chapter 112: Elders’ Questions for Protection
After properly feeding the cats and dogs, Roy’s period of indulgence over the past half month officially came to an end, and his life returned to normal.
The next evening, with a keen look in his eyes and a slightly unsteady gait, Roy headed to the Lionheart Castle treasury with Charlotte, Alice, Rob, and Theresa, who had just arrived in the royal capital, to inspect the remains of the Black Dragon, Nidhogg.
Walking alongside the king of a nation and a savior hero should have been a proud honor.
However, with the two imposing figures radiating a terrifying aura on either side, Roy couldn’t feel pride at all.
“You brat, you’ve been quite the wild one lately! I’m not planning to interfere in your private matters, but a proper man shouldn’t be so lost in pleasures that it leads to ruin!”
“Agreed. You’re a saint’s guard after all; even if you don’t believe in the goddess, you should adhere to some principles. It’s reasonable to ask for moderation, if not complete chastity. Going overboard is no good for you!”
With critical gazes from the elders, both of their expressions were complicated, as if they were witnessing some scandalous critique.
Roy could only return awkward yet polite smiles, repeatedly agreeing with them.
What else could he do?
Should he tell them that their daughter was as fierce as a lioness at night and that their saintess was alluring as a succubus?
Clearly, it was them seducing him, not the other way around!
Feeling agitated, when would men be able to stand up without bearing such accusations? He hadn’t meant to indulge at all, okay?!
At least not before he got pushed onto the bed.
“By the way, you really dared to go after the saintess…” Rob’s tone grew heavy, with a hint of menace: “Even if you’re a dragon-slaying hero, don’t forget your first vow was to Charlotte. Know who comes first!”
Roy felt a sinking sensation in his heart and couldn’t muster even an awkward smile anymore.
To be honest, after learning about being two-timed, it was surprising that his future father-in-law didn’t tear him apart. Now they were expecting him to take sides? That was a huge step back.
Roy had previously discussed with Charlotte and the others that they should handle things privately, but in front of elders, he still needed to appease them a bit and try to make them happy.
The problem was, there wasn’t just one elder now.
“Haha, Your Majesty is jesting. A vow is a vow, but Roy is the saint’s guard; the agreement here clearly states that the guard must give his all to the Holy Light—and currently, the representative of the Holy Light is the saintess.” With a smile on her face, looking as kind as a saint, Theresa’s eyes held no warmth, feeling more like a dispassionate saint statue.
However, Rob wasn’t one to back down. He immediately chuckled in anger, making the air feel hotter: “Ridiculous! Is the principle of the Holy Light just nonsense? Our kingdom’s vow also states the knight must offer loyalty as if family! Isn’t being family more important than your guards and saintess?”
Clearly, the Lionheart King’s spirits were at an all-time low, discarding all noble etiquette in front of outsiders, almost spitting fire.
Of course, such arguments would never yield results, so they soon turned their different yet equally stern smiles toward Roy.
“Kid/Roy, which is more important? Think for yourself.”
Are you kidding me? Rob was one thing, but when did Theresa become Alice’s guardian?!
Both elders wanted to secure an advantage for their daughters, and the pressure felt completely different from that of the girls, leaving Roy with a headache.
Unlike Charlotte and the others, he couldn’t appease the elders nor use his family status to pressure them.
Once, Roy had fantasized about having two high-ranking figures as his backing, feeling unafraid roaming Veszyra, but now it seemed they hadn’t come to support him, but rather to crank up the pressure!
Fortunately, just as Roy found himself in a dilemma, the two girls stepped forward, shielding him behind them.
“Stinky old dad, why’re you making things hard for him? What’s important and what’s not? I really couldn’t care less, okay?!”
Facing Charlotte’s question, Rob’s intimidating aura diminished instantly, like a lion doused in cold water, becoming a flustered cat.
“Charlotte, I’m only doing this for your own good…”
“Go away! If you really cared for me, you’d say less!”
Charlotte forcibly pushed her massive father away.
On the other side, Alice simply stated coolly, “Thank you for your concern, Lady Theresa, but Alice doesn’t care about that sort of thing.”
“But…”
“Alice doesn’t care.”
“But…”
“Really doesn’t care.”
“Even if you share a man, the title matters…”
“Doesn’t care.”
Under Alice’s emotionally detached barrage, no matter how persuasive Theresa was, it was all in vain.
Even her attempt to give Roy another glare was blocked by Alice, who spread her arms like a mother hen protecting her chicks, forcing her to give up.
Under the protection of the two girls, Roy strode forward, leaving Rob and Theresa behind, looking a bit pitiful.
Though they were not happy, both Rob and Theresa clearly knew that the boy wasn’t the kind of scoundrel to engage in such affairs.
He had been through countless life-and-death situations with them, risking everything; this bond was something even they couldn’t meddle with. There was no way to truly break them apart.
However, looking at their precious daughter/the saintess getting close to Roy, both ended up with fallen faces, even feeling a touch of shared sympathy.
“Love is truly terrifying.”
“Absolutely agree.”
Meanwhile, Charlotte angrily advised, “Don’t bother with the stinky old dad; next time he starts trouble, just let me handle it!”
“Lady Theresa is just overthinking; Alice truly doesn’t care about titles, so you don’t need to either,” Alice gently voiced, brimming with concern.
Looking into the girls’ eyes filled with deep affection, Roy, while happy, also felt a bit bewildered.
Please don’t! I’m scared!
They usually bicker so fiercely, why are they suddenly standing up for me today?!
Hmm, might it be related to last night’s event?
Roy realized that ever since last night’s conclusion, completely satisfying them, both seemed notably gentler than usual.
Alice naturally radiated more warmth than usual, and even Charlotte was smiling all day, clinging to his arm tightly.
Otherwise, in the past, even if they guarded him, they would still bicker privately over who earned the winning point.
It turned out that victory in bed truly determines house status!
Thinking this, despite his sore back, Roy straightened his back!
Before long, the group arrived at the treasury.
The dragon’s corpse had originally been a crucial trophy, but considering the relationship with Bahamut, Rob ordered the burial of the several Seven Great Dragons, citing the danger of the Heavenly Dragon being contaminated by the Black Dragon, and only kept the pure-blooded giant dragon’s corpse as a trophy.
Now, the bodies of Krolyan and Marigolds had been buried, and only Nidhogg’s body remained.
Previously, after the battle with the Black Dragon, Roy, having absorbed a lot of its blood, gained its bloodline power and no longer needed to draw strength from the Black Dragon’s heart.
The only reason for keeping Nidhogg’s body was for one purpose.
Looking at the dragon that brought chaos to the kingdom and caused the entire dragon tribe to fall, the Lionheart King spoke gravely: “We need to understand the root of Nidhogg’s corruption that led the dragon tribe to darkness.”
