Chapter 4: The Sage’s Warning
“The Snake-Eyed Witch has recently been hunting a lot of demons around the defenses, so Lord Roy really doesn’t need to worry too much.”
Douglas actually wanted to say, don’t you know how crazy that woman can get? Worrying about her is a bit excessive!
Listening to Douglas’ account, Roy could easily envision Leanna coldly tossing a live demon into the mouth of a snake monster, and it made him feel awkward.
With her ruthless nature, she might even get a kick out of killing demons at the border.
Douglas then turned to Alice: “As for the Saintess, I’m also pushing things forward regarding the Holy Sword matter.”
“In a while, the chief craftsman from the Platinum Workshop will personally come to discuss the sword forging with you.”
“Mm.” Alice nodded indifferently in response.
To be honest, she didn’t quite understand why the Saintess insisted on wielding the Holy Sword, but Roy and Teresa were both saying it was a must, so she felt a bit of anticipation.
It was like wanting to show off a new dress to the owner.
I have to say, Douglas’s business prowess is commendable; the meeting progressed in an orderly manner, and everyone was engaged in heated discussions.
The only one who couldn’t chime in was Jason, sulking in a corner.
Everyone at the table was busy with their own things. We won’t even mention the Dragon Slayer Princess and the Saintess of White Harbor. Douglas stood at the frontline against demons, the Nightingale of the Green Council was advancing in personal strength, and Roy Ainbrad personally slayed a dragon, achieving feats that could be recorded in history.
As for Jason, aside from the occasional sea monster and cultist nonsense, it was nearly calm over there, awfully idle, to the point where he didn’t even have anything to discuss during the meeting!
“At such a young age, both Princess Charlotte and Lord Roy truly live up to their names as prodigies; their talents make me feel inferior.”
“Senior, you’re overpraising me; it’s merely a matter of timing. Besides, the princess is busy with state affairs, bearing the responsibility of guarding against the western demons; it’s understandable if her bloodline is a bit delayed.”
Listening to everyone’s mutual flattery, Jason silently adjusted his glasses, feeling that human joys and sorrows were just noise to him.
“Oh, and Senior Jason has worked hard too.”
Suddenly called out by Roy, Jason was momentarily taken aback.
Roy politely said, “Thanks to the material and economic aid from the South Sea Kingdom, the Lionheart Kingdom has been able to rebuild rapidly.”
“Not just the Lionheart, I heard that Senior has also conducted a new round of economic cooperation with the empire’s borders, the Green Council, the Golden Sands Country, and White Harbor. Having the South Sea Kingdom’s support is a great blessing for all of us, and I must thank you on behalf of everyone.”
It’s only proper to be a little polite when accepting help from others. Along the way, Roy had seen those merchant caravans traveling from the farthest southern parts of the continent to support the kingdom. Although he had been a bit impulsive before, he still felt grateful to this South Sea prince.
Especially since he had absorbed their national treasure; it made Roy feel a bit embarrassed.
“Heh, mutual benefit, hand in hand, this principle I understand.” Jason said, but inexplicably straightened his back, looking a lot more spirited.
No wonder it’s Roy!
Even without actual achievements, someone like him knows how to appreciate his talents! Perhaps this is what they mean by geniuses being drawn to each other, naturally cherishing one another!
Looking back, he realized he had misjudged Douglas; he hadn’t been wrong about this black-haired boy; he truly was someone of significance!
Thinking this way, Jason felt great, already considering what further favors he could provide for Roy.
As the meeting progressed, Roy took the initiative to say, “If there are no more council discussions, I’d like to talk about something very important.”
About the World-Destroying Calamity, and the unseen hands trying to leverage the catastrophe—this concerned all factions and indeed all of humanity.
This was what Roy really wanted to discuss at this meeting.
Roy informed everyone about his discovery on the corpse of Nidhogg and the dragon king’s speculation with Teresa.
Both Jason and Douglas wore serious expressions, even the Sage, who had been silent during the meeting, looked rather grave.
“In short, I hope that while handling your own affairs, you can pay more attention to the entities behind the crises; perhaps behind the events involving cultists and demons lies a threat far more severe than it appears.”
Douglas nodded vigorously: “I will keep an eye out.”
“I will too; if there’s any news, we’ll contact each other immediately.” Jason also assured, even more proactively than Douglas.
The threat of the World-Destroying Calamity was terrifying, but it somehow excited this South Sea prince.
If he could make a contribution for the benefit of all humanity, wouldn’t that be a historic achievement? Isn’t it time for him to step in!
Confirming that both princes wouldn’t take this matter lightly, Roy felt a bit relieved.
He was confident they would ensure Charlotte and the others wouldn’t slack off on this; he just feared that Douglas’s side might leave themselves exposed.
Fortunately, both princes were sensible and trusted his words enough.
This way, even if they couldn’t identify the unseen hands early on, if something went wrong in the future, the various factions could at least unite quickly, responding to the threat in the best possible manner.
After the meeting concluded, the Sage called Roy aside.
“I want to have a private chat with you, oh, Miss Nia, please stay; this matter concerns you as well.”
The others smartly exited the room, leaving space for them.
No matter how good the two princes were, they didn’t want to interrupt the Sage’s discussion. As for Charlotte and Alice, they knew that whatever needed to be shared, Roy would tell them, so they weren’t concerned.
Instead, Nia’s smile stiffened, looking a bit listless. Once only the three remained in the room, the Sage first congratulated, “First, I must congratulate you on entering a high tier.”
The old eyes held uncontainable admiration: “It seems you have preliminarily absorbed the divine essence; I can see that one-fifth of your bloodline and soul is now indistinguishable from that of the dragon race.”
“Even Rolin only managed to get this far back then, and you will clearly go further than she did.”
Although he knew the other was complimenting him, Roy still felt weird about it.
“Not only that, the military alliance has also taken shape; perhaps you won’t need me to guide them, and you could integrate them on your own.”
Roy couldn’t help but laugh: “Director, what are you talking about?”
“I just held a meeting with them; the alliance still needs your leadership when it counts.”
The old man merely looked at him, smiling without speaking.
As the saying goes, an outsider sees things more clearly.
Even if Roy himself lacked that awareness, Booker had long realized that all factions were unconsciously relying on him, following him, uniting around him.
A true leader doesn’t need a crown or power; even alone, he can attract followers.
Because he had once done the same, the Sage was certain that this young man before him would do even better than he had.
“Let’s not rush the alliance; what I really want to talk about is another matter.”
His gaze fell on the elven girl beside him, and the old man’s tone grew serious: “The All Things Wither has been very active lately; you must be cautious.”
