Chapter 88: The Wyvern Disturbance
Riding a griffon is no walk in the park. Even if griffons are somewhat human-like, riders generally need some training to fly smoothly.
Charlotte was surprised by how considerate this Golden-Winged Griffin seemed, spreading its wings wide and trying to keep its steps steady, as if afraid of any bumps.
Thanks to this, Charlotte could relax and quietly enjoy the warmth from Roy’s chest.
As before, they maintained a front-and-back position, but this time, Charlotte didn’t have to worry about steering the griffon, and Roy wasn’t clutching her waist as nervously.
Yet, under the serene night sky, they nestled against each other, reluctant to part ways.
Charlotte secretly turned her head to peek at Roy’s cheek, where a faint lip mark remained. It was her imprint.
Thinking of this made her heart flutter with embarrassment, yet she couldn’t help but feel excited.
But she absolutely had no regrets.
In fact, she believed it was the best decision she had ever made in her life.
“Uh…”
Roy suddenly spoke, startling Charlotte, who quickly averted her gaze and pretended to act cool.
“What, what’s up?”
“We’ve arrived. This must be your room, right?”
Charlotte turned around and noticed that Roy had brought her to the closest platform to her room, following her instructions.
The Sunset Red Castle has many platforms for magical beast mounts, and thanks to Cake, Roy could ride the Golden-Winged Griffin without the guards below stopping him.
However, once he officially became Charlotte’s sworn knight, he would also enjoy some royal privileges, allowing him to come and go freely from the Sunset Red Castle.
The little princess had been staring at him the entire way, and Roy couldn’t help but chuckle to himself, thinking she thought he hadn’t noticed her gaze.
The Golden-Winged Griffin gently landed, and soon, a few maids led by Lisa rushed over.
“Your, Your Highness, what’s going on?! ” Lisa was shocked beyond belief and flabbergasted.
While she hoped for progress in Charlotte’s marriage, she didn’t expect it to happen so fast!
It was one thing for them to cuddle on the griffon, but they were both disheveled, covered in dust and leaves, lacking any noble dignity! Especially Charlotte, who had lost her high heels, revealing her lonely feet in black stockings, which were now torn, exposing her smooth skin, while her face still carried a charming blush!
Wait, hadn’t they only known each other for a few days? Everyone else was at a banquet, and they were playing around like this—wasn’t it a bit too much?!
Seeing Lisa’s astonishment, Charlotte quickly started to explain, “It’s not what you think!”
“It was just an accident, and Roy brought me back!”
“Exactly. Please don’t misunderstand.” Roy chimed in.
“Can I ask what kind of accident it was?”
At this question, both Roy and Charlotte awkwardly averted their gazes.
One was being harassed by an unknown girl, and the other was playing around drunkenly, plus the overly familiar actions between the two of them were far beyond what was appropriate… Whichever they admitted to would be a major social embarrassment!
“I see.” Lisa, understanding the hint, decided not to press further; youth sure knows how to have fun.
Roy dismounted first and then helped Charlotte down from the griffon.
With the maids taking care of her, it seemed he wasn’t needed anymore.
“I should head back.”
“Leaving already? A gentleman should accompany a lady until the end, right?” Charlotte tugged at Roy’s sleeve, her words dripping with reluctance.
Wait, entering a lady’s chamber directly wasn’t really the gentlemanly thing to do, was it?!
Plus, there were people watching!
Roy glanced at Lisa, who immediately caught on and smiled knowingly, “Mr. Roy doesn’t need to say more; I understand.”
With that, Lisa led the other maids away.
Only then did Charlotte feel bold enough to lift her head, her voice as cute as a little kitten’s, “Hold me.”
How could Roy refuse?
He picked up this clingy little kitty in a princess carry and took her to the door of her room.
The door swung open, and Lisa, looking genuinely surprised, exclaimed, “Oh dear, Your Highness, you’re back already?”
Roy reluctantly set the girl down, handing her off to Lisa; it was finally time for goodbyes.
Charlotte’s expression dimmed slightly as she clutched Roy’s sleeve, unwilling to let go.
So much happened in just one night; she had so much to say but didn’t know how to express it.
Finally, it was Roy who broke the silence with a smile, “We made a promise. I haven’t forgotten.”
“Mm!” Charlotte’s expression brightened, her face lighting up in a smile as radiant as fire, which dazzled Roy for a moment. “Then I’ll look forward to it! Don’t let me down, okay?”
Even after Charlotte closed the door, Roy was still lost in the glow of her charming smile.
“So, how far have you two gone?! My goodness, the first time was outdoors? Who knew the princess was so daring?!”
“Wait, I told you there was nothing like that!”
A noisy ruckus erupted inside, and Roy let out a dry laugh, quickly retreating to avoid hearing more than he should.
After leaving Charlotte’s chamber, Roy rode the Golden-Winged Griffin back to the banquet hall, informing the stationed maids about Charlotte to avoid them worrying.
However, after that, he noticed something was off with the atmosphere.
The beautiful music continued, but the guests in the banquet hall were hardly laughing; instead, they all wore frowns and serious expressions.
Roy then realized that he and Charlotte had been missing for so long; logically, it should have caused a stir, yet no one seemed to care at all.
Something must be wrong.
Roy wove through the crowd and finally spotted Karl in a corner.
Karl was walking towards the exit of the banquet hall with a few noblemen, looking grave and hurried.
“Father! What’s happening?” Roy quickly caught up to ask.
“Roy…” Karl hesitated, glancing at the others.
Then, he stepped closer to Roy, moving away from the gaze of the distant onlookers, and whispered, “There’s been some trouble at the border.”
Chills ran down Roy’s spine as he coldly asked, “Demon Race?”
Karl was momentarily taken aback, “It’s not that serious.”
“Then it’s all good.” Roy breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness as long as the Desperate Defense Line was intact, at least it wouldn’t ignite a world war between humans and demons.
But then Karl doused him with cold water, “But it’s not a small matter.”
“There’s a wyvern disturbance at the border, and it’s worse than we anticipated.”
The wilderness of Veszyra isn’t stable; every year there are wyvern beast disturbances that require local nobles to send troops to quell them. Anya and Alice couldn’t come to the capital because they were dealing with the wyverns in Ainbrad.
But saying it simply, it was just a large-scale hunting operation.
How serious could it be to warrant a reaction from numerous lords all the way from the capital?
Why wasn’t this mentioned at all in the original work?!
Alice, I hope you’re okay…
“Don’t worry too much; we’ll know more details after the meeting.” Karl patted his shoulder, then hurried off with the other nobles.
