Chapter 89: The Anomaly of the Dragon
In a corner of the palace under the night sky, Leo sat in his spot, gazing at the brightly lit and dazzling royal ceremony with a twinge of deep longing in his eyes.
Unfortunately, that didn’t belong to him.
On Leo’s other side was the girl in a green dress, who had crashed into Roy’s arms earlier.
She was the daughter of a baron.
At this moment, the girl was humbly kneeling on the ground, with tear-streaked eyes filled with pleading: “I have completed your request, please spare my family!”
“Kings don’t play games; I will certainly take care of what I promised you.” Leo couldn’t even be bothered to glance her way.
A baron’s daughter who had already lost her value didn’t deserve any more of his time.
Her sobbing disrupted Leo’s enjoyment of the palace’s charm. He casually waved his hand, and the cold-faced knight beside him ruthlessly seized the girl in green and dragged her away.
“Thank you, Your Highness, thank you, Your Highness!” The girl, until the moment she left, was still tearfully expressing her gratitude.
Completely unaware, her family and the town where she grew up had long been reduced to ashes under the chaos of the dragon. Well, she would soon join her family.
But such trivial matters would be handled by his subordinates; Leo didn’t need to worry about those.
What he cared about was the outcome of his task.
Leo understood Charlotte’s temper and knew she couldn’t handle her liquor well. Since they didn’t know each other for long, it wouldn’t be hard to stir trouble between the young couple.
The wronged boy and the aggrieved girl would surely get into a big fight fueled by alcohol. Those silly and childish feelings would probably be put on hold.
So-called youthful emotions weren’t worth much in the end.
And this time, Leo would never give that budding romance a chance to develop.
Leo glanced at the old man in a black robe, Bruwen. “With this, Charlotte won’t be a problem anymore.”
“I’ll keep an eye on it. Don’t you want Roy Ainbrad? He’s all yours now.”
A few exchanges had already drained Leo’s patience.
He suspected that in his younger days, he had never been as scheming or bold as Roy was now.
He could be sure that Roy’s future achievements would definitely surpass that of the current Iron-Blood Marquis.
It’s better to eliminate such a dangerous individual sooner rather than later.
And such dirty work was best left to the rats in the gutter.
“Hehe…” The old man excitedly licked his lips, his cold and indifferent eyes strangely narrowing and widening.
“Thank you, Your Highness; our king will remember your kindness.”
“Don’t get it twisted.” Leo’s voice suddenly turned icy, carrying a hint of warning as he declared proudly: “The Lionheart King can only have me!”
Bruwen slightly bowed, managing to pay a semblance of respect: “I of course understand. If the son of Iron-Blood were to unite with your royal sister, he would become an unbreakable bond between local nobility and the royal family, like Karl and your father now, and that would severely hinder our shared plans, so we must crush it in the cradle!”
Bruwen suggested: “However, I have a question. What if your royal sister insists on standing in your way…”
Leo’s gaze sharpened immediately, a blend of battlefield fury and sovereign majesty igniting within him, like the fierce stare of a king of beasts unpleased.
“I said, you don’t need to worry about that.”
“Oh dear, I’ve overstepped.” Bruwen showed a face of false flattery.
“However, a general’s success often comes at the price of countless bones; a king can’t be blinded by the foolish emotions of mortals. Please don’t soften your heart at crucial moments!”
Bruwen’s gaze turned towards the window.
At the end of the night, another griffin was rushing in with urgent news from the borders.
Bruwen’s smile was cruel and cold: “After all, our plan is at the most critical stage.”
Leo coldly assessed him, as if looking at a corpse.
Our plan? Don’t make me laugh.
There’s no room for any stain on a king’s reputation. Leo had never genuinely wished to sink to the level of these rats, nor did he intend to assist that mad plan.
Once he used them to eliminate Roy, he would discard these dirty gloves.

While Lionheart City celebrated and reveled in holiday festivities, outside the Iron-Blood Ridge, a cruel rehearsal of blood and steel was taking place.
The roars of dragons and the cries of soldiers echoed against the night, sending shivers down the spines of the beasts in the woods, causing them to flee in haste.
Over a hundred soldiers successfully lured a bipedal dragon into a pre-set pit, standing on high ground with bows, crossbows, and massive stones at the ready.
This was the standard tactic against dragons.
The dragon was unable to use its breath and had poorly developed wings that could only glide; in short, it was just a malformed monster mixed with dragon blood.
Yet they had inherited the dragon’s wall-like scales, making it difficult for even a typical Extraordinary Being, let alone normal soldiers, to break through its defenses.
The best way to deal with them was to keep a safe distance and wear them down with ranged attacks.
However, Extraordinary Beings were rarer than gold. Even a Sequence 9 Extraordinary Being served as a hundred-man captain in the army. To hunt this dragon, two Sequence 9s and over a hundred soldiers had gathered, plus an extra Sequence 8 adventurer; yet they were still at a stalemate with the dragon.
In previous years, this setup was enough to deal with typical dragons, but this year had exceeded everyone’s expectations.
Not only had the number of dragons doubled, but the ones that appeared were even larger and more ferocious than before.
The soldiers present were witnessing for the first time a terrifying dragon over twenty meters tall.
Stones and arrows thudded onto the dark scales like raindrops, doing nothing at all; the dragon, more annoyed by the endless harassment, began flapping its sharp wings and created a whirlwind!
Under the dragon’s wings, countless blades capable of slicing through steel rained down; every time they landed around the pit’s edge, limbs would fly, blood would splatter, and cries of anger and agony filled the air.
“Shoot! Aim for its eyes!”
“Get more stones!”
“Damn it, how tough is this creature?!”
“Where’s Captain Anya?! If this continues, we won’t be able to hold it back!”
“Things are even worse to the east; the captain went over there first!”
Amidst the argument, the dragon’s rage finally erupted.
It disregarded the oncoming boulders and lunged forward like a cannonball shot from a broken barrel, crossing dozens of meters in an instant and diving into the crowd!
“Roar!!!”
The dragon’s tail swung like a barbed steel whip, and its wings were like indestructible blades. Just by thrashing around in the crowd, it inflicted massive costs on the soldiers. Their armor and flesh crumbled under the assault like hot butter under a knife.
Two Sequence 9s drew their swords and flanked it from both sides.
Even without rationality, the dragon’s fighting instincts kicked in; it whipped its tail and sent the two of them flying.
The tall Sequence 8 adventurer seized the moment, raising a massive black steel axe with a fierce shout, charging towards the dragon’s vulnerable belly.
That spot was unprotected by scales and was the dragon’s weakest area.
This strike was remarkably experienced, well-timed to take advantage of the dragon’s unprepared moment!
This giant was an old hand at dragon hunting, exceptionally strong and boasting a long list of dragon kills; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been specially hired to assist them.
“Go for it!”
“Mr. Grey, smash it!”
But just when everyone thought this strike would land, the dragon suddenly sucked in its belly, performing a move they had never seen before.
Its massive maw filled with sharp teeth aimed straight at Grey, unleashing a furious blade of wind!
That was dragon breath.
