Chapter 32: The Past is the Past
The Dragon Tooth Blade fell like a torrential rain, and the rotten vines snapped like wheat stalks breaking under the downpour, with no resistance whatsoever.
However, any sword could pierce steel, and any severed vine weighed like rebar. The rangers didn’t even dare to watch from up close and had to retreat to a safe distance to avoid being swept up in such an exaggerated battle.
The blade kept shredding Valorlan’s defenses, who, unwilling to be crushed so easily, narrowed his eyes and began to chant an obscure incantation.
【Acid Swamp】!
A large section of the ground sank, turning into a corrosive mire that ensnared Roy, forcing him to finally halt.
Roy was slightly surprised and praised, “Not bad, that’s a new trick.”
“Not over yet, kid!”
Valorlan opened his withered mouth and continued to incant. Terrifying extraordinary power coalesced above the mire, forming countless swamp monsters wielding acid-bladed scythes, striking down at Roy.
“Did you let your guard down?! Not even a pureblood dragon can escape my trap…?!”
This was not Valorlan boasting.
First trapping with 【Acid Swamp】, then surrounding with 【Swamp Scythe Guard】—this combo was proven effective so many times, even capable of killing pureblood dragons. Most opponents, caught in the 【Acid Swamp】, would be corroded to bones. Only extremely resilient beings could hold on for a while, but even then, they couldn’t escape the execution-style slaughter of the 【Swamp Scythe Guard】.
After landing his first hit, Valorlan was certain the outcome was sealed.
But he never expected that the enormous scythe, infused with corrosive power, would strike Roy only to dissolve away like softened butter, turning into muck!
No, before that, how could he be unharmed within the 【Acid Swamp】?!
Disbelieving, Valorlan chanted again, this time casting his strongest corrosion spell.
【Corrosive Grip】!
Valorlan himself had the bloodline of the Wood Elf, making him one of the finest spellcasters among Elf descendants, particularly skilled at weaving spells.
Channeling the Mother’s power, he mimicked the legendary 【Corrosion King, Krolain】’s venomous magic, capable of dissolving dragon scales—an unsettling spell even threatening high-level extraordinary beings, classified as a secret art only learned by high priests of 【All Things Wither】, and was one of Valorlan’s proudest creations.
But facing the grotesque giant hand oozing with pus, Roy simply waved his hand.
【Purification】!
Upon reaching the high tier, his abilities beyond 【Iron Blood】 and 【Dragon King’s Blessing】 had not yet strengthened to the advanced levels but were still far beyond the Sequence 5 standard.
Good enough to deal with high-tier cultists—no problem at all!
Pure streams of water burst forth, washing away the vast mire, the gruesome scythe monsters, and the horrific giant hands falling from the sky, all dissolving under the clear water, becoming harmless droplets.
“Th-this is impossible…”
Every extraordinary power has its limits.
Simultaneously possessing the powers of a Wood Elf and a dark god meant that in the face of formidable foes, Valorlan could suppress them using various means, even if his raw power fell short.
Yet he never expected that not only did his opponent possess formidable combat capability, but also an outrageous resistance to his corrosion spells.
Even a true high-tier extraordinary being couldn’t achieve such a feat, right?!
“Guess it’s my turn now.”
After dispelling the mire, nothing could obstruct Roy’s steps.
Grasping emptiness, he materialized a blade, the dark-haired adventurer advanced leisurely, raising his sword.
This was the first time in this battle the boy personally wielded his sword.
But this simple action made Valorlan’s already withered complexion twist in horror.
Something was coming!
Without a moment to consider a counter, Valorlan desperately commanded the surrounding vines to surge towards Roy, seeking to halt the unknown yet terrifying strike.
But before that, the boy’s eye briefly flashed with golden light.
【Dragon King’s Might】!
The ancient aura fell once more, coalescing into substantial dark golden lightning, which instantly turned the onrushing vines to ashes, like an ant foolishly trying to block a juggernaut, unable to approach Roy even a single step.
The heavy pressure felt like an insurmountable mountain, shackling Valorlan’s movements, binding his thoughts of resistance, and further validating his unwillingly acknowledged conjecture.
To him, the dark-haired adventurer no longer appeared as human but as a… dragon.
Indeed, a dragon that devours choice souls!
Even blessed by the Mother, how could he possibly defeat a living mythical dragon?!
An extraordinary being couldn’t oppose a myth!
With the blade raised, the dragon roared.
With a single strike of 【Ruinous Flame】, an explosion erupted, engulfing the world in flames, a massive fire dragon rising from the abyss, without hesitation consuming Valorlan’s body.
The sea of fire spread, howling winds of flame shook the earth in reverberation of the dragon’s roar, while the putrid miasma and vines were completely purified by the terrible heat capable of vaporizing steel.
After a few seconds, confirming that Valorlan’s essence lingered on the brink of extinction, and with no more cultists remaining, Roy casually swung his sword, dispersing the dragon flames.
He didn’t want to harm innocent residents.
But even as the flames dissipated, the ground around the 【Divine Tree】 had transformed into vast patches of scorched earth, and the scene was even more horrifying than a volcanic eruption, deeply shocking the hearts of all present.
Valorlan’s subordinates knelt one by one; even though Roy had not cast a glance at them, none dared to resist.
The second-in-command of the Verdant Council, the legendary spellcaster who had once made a name for himself during the 【Third Magic Tide】, was recognized as the strongest of the Verdant Council, taken down by a single strike! How could they dare to oppose?!
They were afraid that even a single finger from him could crush them to death!
Above the 【Divine Tree】, Janthea remained silent for a while before finally exclaiming, “The title of Dragon Slayer Knight is indeed not vain…”
Even the grand high priest of the cult, whom the rangers struggled against, was merely a defeated opponent beneath the young boy’s sword.
Having witnessed the power of myth, Janthea still found it hard to connect this powerful figure with the boy who had only been at Sequence 7 back then.
“Right? Isn’t he cool?” The elven girl giggled, going into a bit of a daze.
Seeing her daughter’s foolish expression, Janthea couldn’t help but feel speechless.
Initially, she thought it wouldn’t be too bad to unite with the son of an old friend, but now she found herself puzzled.
She really had no idea how her silly daughter managed to catch up with such an incredible young man.
Roy himself was also scratching his head over this outcome.
This marked the first time he had acted since the dragon slaying.
But just slightly getting serious, the battle-ready dragon blood had only just awakened, and his opponent was already on the ground.
He had just rolled his sleeves up, and it ended like this?
Wait, were cult high priests already this weak now?
Looking back to the past when he was running away from the 【All Things Wither】 priest in the trial, and seeing how some now charred Valorlan lay there after he barely warmed up, Roy found it hard to adapt.
The terrifying cult priest who once made him feel like he was going to lose sanity now seemed just pitifully laughable.
He had originally wanted to try out some newly acquired skills, but it looked like that wouldn’t be possible unless he reached a high tier.
