Living Dangerously with a 999-Year-Old Gumiho – Chapter 48

“Hehe, got it! I’m so huuungry~”

The friends let out a sigh of relief at the child’s innocent response and began preparing a simple breakfast.

Seojin shouted as she opened the pantry and refrigerator.

“There’s nothing to eat here?!”

At her words, everyone gathered in the kitchen.

Yoonhwa’s face flushed slightly upon hearing that.

She touched her hair shyly with her fingertips and smiled bashfully.

“Um, yeah… Sorry. I guess I’ve been eating quite a bit lately.”

Seojin suggested.

“The supermarket probably isn’t open yet…”

“How about checking the bakery nearby?”

Hyun responded immediately.

“Yeah, the bakery should be open.”

“Let’s grab a quick breakfast there!”

Kangtae added.

“Great, that bakery opens early in the morning.”

Yoonhwa and the child got excited hearing their friends’ words.

“Bread?!”

Yoonhwa and the child exchanged puzzled glances.

“What’s bread??”

The child asked with pure curiosity. Yoonhwa tilted her head, looking at her friends.

Hyun answered with a smile.

“Bread is food you can eat instead of rice.”

Seojin added more interest.

“There are all kinds, and we often eat it as a snack.”

Kangtae, holding the hands of the child and Yoonhwa, chimed in.

“Better to experience it than to just hear about it! Let’s go eat!”

Although Yoonhwa still looked intrigued, she felt a thrill watching her friends’ excitement.

“Okay, bread… Let’s go!”

Yoonhwa couldn’t hide her excitement as she headed to the bathroom to change her clothes.

She wore a bright colored blouse and a skirt.

The skirt beautifully hugged Yoonhwa’s waist and its naturally flowing silhouette made her figure stand out even more.

When changed, Yoonhwa stood in front of the mirror, satisfied with her appearance and smiled slightly.

Finally, she tried on her outerwear, tucked in her tail and ears, and confidently opened the bathroom door.

As Yoonhwa came out, Seojin greeted her with a bright smile.

“No matter when I see you, you always look great, Yoonhwa. Ready to go?”

Yoonhwa smiled at Seojin’s compliment, expressing her gratitude.

“Thanks, let’s go!”

Her voice was filled with anticipation.

The child, excited among Yoonhwa and her friends, looked around curiously, chattering.

“Bread!”

Everyone burst into laughter at the sight.

As Yoonhwa and her friends stepped outside, the fresh morning air welcomed them.

Sunlight gently illuminated their faces, and a light breeze made them feel refreshed.

As they stepped outside, the soft morning sunlight settled on the alley and wide sidewalks, while everything around was still quiet.

Despite it being early, a few early risers were already out and about.

A newspaper delivery person rode a bicycle full of newspapers, distributing them house by house, while joggers took brisk steps, enjoying the morning freshness.

Their steps along the alley were light and cheerful.

Yoonhwa’s pink hair shimmered under the morning sunlight, catching the eyes of passersby.

Being aware of the surrounding attention, she occasionally smiled shyly.

The child hopped down the street with light footsteps.

As they walked, the early morning street began to come alive bit by bit.

Stores started to open one by one, and the number of people beginning their morning increased.

The occasional voices of passing people mingled with the chirping of birds, adding to the morning’s tranquility.

During their walk, a woman approached Seojin.

She was wearing sportswear and stood slightly taller than Seojin, with striking long black hair.

The woman cheerfully greeted Seojin, and Seojin responded with a delighted expression.

“Oh! Seojin~!!”

Seojin replied brightly to the woman.

“Wow, it’s been a really long time!”

“What have you been up to lately?!”

The woman, beaming with a smile, answered.

“Oh, you know me, just the same, keeping active with morning jogs.”

“And you? Still reading books?”

Seojin nodded with a joyful smile at the woman’s question.

“Yeah, I still love reading books!”

“I’ve become quite interested in monsters lately~?”

The woman’s eyes sparkled with interest at Seojin’s words.

“Monsters? That’s a really fascinating topic!”

“Did you find any special book?”

Seojin answered with a playful smile.

“Yeah, a few~”

“I’ll introduce them to you when we have some time!”

Meanwhile, Yoonhwa, the child, and Kangtae watched and waited for the conversation between Seojin and the woman.

The child squeezed Yoonhwa’s hand, feeling a bit anxious watching Seojin chat so warmly with someone else.

The woman was talking with Seojin while casting glances at Hyun, Kangtae, Yoonhwa, and the child, who were glaring at Seojin.

Her gaze lingered on each of them before she curiously asked Seojin.

“Are these all your friends?!”

Seojin proudly introduced her friends.

“Yep, this is Hyun, Kangtae, Yoonhwa, and this little buddy is our child.”

“All my close friends.”

The woman looked surprised at Seojin’s words and exclaimed.

“Our child?!”

Her eyes briefly turned to the child and then back at Seojin.

Seojin quickly explained, bursting into laughter.

“Oh, no! By ‘our child,’ I just mean it affectionately…!!”

The woman nodded, smiling as if she understood.

“Oh, I see! Such a cute buddy~”

Meanwhile, the child held Yoonhwa’s hand even tighter and quietly listened to the conversation passing between Seojin and the woman.

The woman shifted her gaze from the child to Yoonhwa.

Her unique pink hair and beautiful appearance caught her attention.

The woman gazed at Yoonhwa, seemingly captivated.

The pink hair shimmered under the soft morning sunlight, highlighting Yoonhwa’s beauty even more.

“Wow, you’re really tall!”

The woman exclaimed in admiration.

Her voice mixed with respect and a hint of envy.

Yoonhwa, slightly flustered by the compliment, blushed.

“Ah, thank you.”

She looked at Seojin as the woman spoke again.

“Is she really your friend too?”

Seojin brightly nodded at the woman’s question.

“Yep, Yoonhwa is one of my friends!”

“Such an amazing friend.”

Yoonhwa smiled slightly and bowed her head at Seojin’s introduction.

The woman’s compliment and Seojin’s introduction made her a bit bashful.

In that moment, the child tightened their grip on Yoonhwa’s hand and said in a whiny voice.

“Ugh… I’m so hungry… Let’s hurry…!”

At the child’s whiny voice, Yoonhwa, Seojin, and the others glanced at each other.

Seeing the child’s hunger intensifying, they hastened their steps toward the bakery.

Seojin waved goodbye to the woman.

“Sorry, we have to go now; we’re a bit busy.”

“Let’s meet again next time, for sure!”

The woman smiled and nodded in understanding.

“Sure, see you next time!”

“Take good care of the child!”

After exchanging farewells, they followed Seojin as they headed toward the bakery, eager to satisfy the child’s hunger and excited for new experiences.

With the fresh morning air and gentle sunlight, their steps felt light.

Soon, they arrived at the cozy and warm bakery.

The bakery’s exterior was simple yet charming, and through the small window out front, they could see people hard at work inside.

As they opened the bakery door, the tempting aroma of baked bread tickled their noses.

Inside, the warm lighting and wooden decor made it inviting, with various types of bread and pastries displayed on the shelves.

As they stepped inside, Yoonhwa and the child’s eyes sparkled as they looked around.

Everything was a new and fascinating experience for them.

The child excitedly grabbed a particularly eye-catching bread, unable to contain their excitement, and began to eat it right away.

The friends were caught off guard by the child’s sudden action.

Seojin hurriedly stepped forward and apologized to the owner.

“I’m so sorry, truly!”

“I’ll pay right now..!”

Yoonhwa, surprised at the child’s sudden action, quickly reacted.

She gently picked the child up.

“Wait, little one, you can’t eat like this..!”

Yoonhwa’s voice was soft and soothing, and the child looked up at her, momentarily flustered.

“Ugh, I’m hungry… That looks so good…!”

His voice was filled with pure hunger and a desperate desire for bread.

Yoonhwa smiled at the child’s honesty, nodding as if she understood his feelings.

Kangtae, comforting the child, carefully explained.

“If you want to eat bread, you first have to grab some and pay, okay?”

His voice was warm and understanding.

The child looked a bit disappointed at Kangtae’s words but quickly nodded as if he understood.

“Got it…”

Relieved by the child’s understanding, the friends exchanged smiles.

At that moment, various breads inside the bakery caught the friends’ eyes.

Kangtae held the child’s hand and guided him through the selection of breads.

“Here, choose which bread you want to eat.”

His voice was enough to excite the child.

Yoonhwa also stepped forward with the child to the shelf, her eyes captivated by the different shapes and colors of the breads.

Yoonhwa’s heart raced. She had never seen so many varieties of bread before.

The child’s eyes sparkled as he examined each loaf on the shelf.

Finally, he pointed at a cookie overflowing with chocolate chips.

“That one!”

His voice was filled with joy.

As Yoonhwa grabbed the cookie the child picked, she also chose a piece of soft croissant for herself.

Being a bit conscious of how much she was eating, she tried to grab a bit less than the others, but, nonetheless, Yoonhwa’s tray was still filled with many breads.

She smiled softly as she looked at her chosen bread.

The child’s selection was more than enough to fill his tray.

Starting with the chocolate chip cookie, he wandered around the bakery like an explorer searching for treasure.

Stopping at each shelf, she carefully examined the assortment of breads with curious eyes. Wherever her hands reached, colorful macarons, cream-filled breads, and crispy yet soft baguettes made their way into her tray.

In particular, the rainbow-colored cupcakes caught her attention.

Holding it in her hand, she sparkled as if she had found a jewel.

“This too!”

The friends exchanged looks, flabbergasted at how full the child’s tray was.

Yoonhwa was surprised by how much bread the child had chosen, but her heart warmed at seeing his happy expression.

Kangtae touched his forehead and chuckled a little.

“How are you going to eat all this bread?”

He asked playfully.

Seojin nodded at everyone’s expressions.

“I’ll pay for it~ Don’t worry.”

His voice conveyed confidence and kindness.

At Seojin’s words, the friends breathed a sigh of relief, and the child became even more excited about choosing bread.

Yoonhwa cast a grateful glance at Seojin and spoke softly.

“Really!? Thank you, Seojin!”

Seojin simply smiled brightly.

The child’s tray was finally topped off with the rainbow-colored cupcake, and he proudly held it up to Yoonhwa.

“Looks delicious, right?!!”
