The timely arrival of reinforcements.
It felt like a scene straight out of a movie as Solomon shouted loudly, exposing his position to the enemies.
“Get that bastard!”
The Golems, relatively closer to Solomon, rushed into action.
The boss of the Solomon Family. Taking down that greedy little hamster would surely diminish the momentum of the Five Families.
But Solomon didn’t flinch at all.
“…Shoot!”
The hamster men lying low nearby responded to the boss’s order.
Slug rounds designed to take down bears.
Especially effective against Golems were the slug rounds loaded in shotguns. The heavy lead projectiles packed into the slugs offered significant destructive force and stopping power.
While their penetration might not compare to other bullets, once they hit, they could rupture even the insides of an armored opponent.
This applied not just to humans but also to the tough-skinned Golems.
“….”
Thud.
In a split second, the gunfire rang out, and the Golems fell silently, unable to let out a scream, only soft groans escaping as they dropped.
“Keep firing! Keep going!”
Solomon confirmed the end of those aiming for him and decided to change his position. He doubted this tactic would keep working.
Though the suppressive fire continued, and they still poured rounds into the now-motionless enemies, the Wolf Men were starting to widen the gap.
“Hold on a little longer!”
“Boss! More are coming from the north!”
“You guys! Join up to the north!”
It was uncertain exactly when our allies approaching from the east would arrive. Solomon decided to shift some of the forces concentrated in the south to the north.
The Wolf Men charged recklessly in vehicles, weaving between buildings with agile movements.
With part of the forces redirected north, Solomon could start to feel the tide turning.
“Aim for the Wolves first! Those bastards must be running low on energy!”
Solomon’s judgment was close to a miscalculation.
The Golems weren’t moving because of the ongoing suppressive fire and because they were witnessing their fellow Golems being taken out one after another.
They were merely hunkered down, waiting for an opportunity created by Dragovich’s Wolf Men.
As the submachine gun’s muzzle shifted from suppressing the Golems to aiming at the Wolf Men, their reaction was immediate.
“Now! Move!”
“Run!”
The Golems waiting for an opportunity surged forward all at once.
Click. The heavy sound of loading and the rapid swapping of drum magazines.
Suddenly, even without Solomon’s command, the gunmen focused on the Wolf Men redirected their aim toward the Golems.
Totally unintentional, but it turned out that the enemies had practically given up their cover.
But taking advantage of the break in suppressive fire, some Wolf Men dove into the buildings. Each side jabbed at the other’s openings, but neither had the luxury to change the situation right now.
“They’re inside! Those bastards are inside!”
Solomon heard his subordinates shout but had no choice but to keep firing at the Golems right in front of him.
There was no news from the northern front. It was clear that they didn’t have time to send someone to report back.
“….”
Somewhere, as one side gains an edge, the other side is obviously losing.
The Wolf Men who entered the building were targeting our forces positioned in the windows and on the rooftops, while Solomon and the other gunners tried to wipe out the exposed Golems without cover.
In this precarious situation, a cacophony of gunfire echoed, drowning out all other noise.
Several vehicles shone bright headlights as they made their appearance on the battlefield.
“Just push through!”
A few vehicles halted near the defensive line, opening fire from behind the threatening Golems and Wolf Men.
Moreover,
Something black flew toward the barricade hastily constructed by the vehicles of the Dragovich Family… Boom!
“Ahhhh!”
Solomon shouted with manic glee as the grenade exploded in a dazzling display. Amidst the fear of incoming bullets, he couldn’t help but cackle at the sight of the enemies getting blown apart.
Before long, the explosive sounds overwhelmed the battlefield, like a lively celebration.
Thanks to the fiery black pineapple, the enemies began to lose whatever little cover they had.
“….”
They say the defeated don’t speak.
The members of the Sanchez Family in the rear began to retreat quickly. As a result, those fiercely fighting in the front went from risking their lives to advance, to now desperately saving their own skins.
“Boss, what should we do?”
“Send a few to the north! The rest follow me!”
Solomon refused to waste the momentum regained from the sudden arrival of reinforcements.
Though uncertain, he decided to pull some forces in preparation for the northern assault and led the charge himself.
Meanwhile, further south at another bridge in the Solomon Family’s defensive line, the conflict ended rather blandly compared to the Solomon Family.
There were some casualties, but Granada and the Vampires safely returned to the eastern side of the bridge.
What mattered most was that they completed their mission.
Not all targets were hit, but parts of the stronghold where the Sanchez Family had entrenched themselves exploded spectacularly.
Buildings collapsed, smoke and flames rose into the night sky as if signaling victory.
“…Vanella. Everyone is back.”
“Yeah? So what were those guys?”
Vanella replied to his second-in-command, Dance’s report, peering through binoculars across the bridge.
Despite their loud entrance, the members of the Dragovich Family were rather ineffective.
In fact, as soon as the reinforcements arrived, the Sanchez Family’s strongholds blew up in various places, meaning they weren’t in a favorable position either.
“Alright, let’s report to the Godmother.”
Following his boss’s orders, Dance reported everything that had happened on their end to the upper management.
Typically, one wouldn’t relay information directly to the Godfather and Godmother, but in urgent situations like this, such procedures could be overlooked.
The news relayed through Dance to Elena eventually reached the Carmen Family.

“….”
The reports of the battles between the Solomon Family, Felini Family, and the Sanchez Family were passed to Paula through a member of the Carmen Family, who then whispered it to Veronica.
“Brother.”
“Hmm?”
“I think there was a fight on the Solomon side. It’s the same for Vanella and Lumini’s side.”
“So what was the outcome?”
I couldn’t help but worry that they might have lost.
It was possible that the Carini we sent with Elena didn’t arrive on time, or that the Sanchez Family’s offensive was stronger than expected.
“Both sides won, it seems. But it looks like the Dragovich Family has joined the fight on Solomon’s side. Vanella’s side has shown up as well, it appears.”
“….”
“The Dragovich side seems more active than expected. You’d think they’d be busy dealing with the Black Men.”
“Indeed. Whether they’re stronger than we guessed or the Black Men were just pathetic.”
I had stopped eating my turkey in the middle of the meal to wipe my mouth with a napkin.
It wasn’t that my appetite was gone or that I was full; more pressing issues demanded my focus.
“From what I gather, things have developed as you expected on Solomon’s side. They were attacked from above and below, and it seems Carini arrived just in time.”
“Still no idea on the extent of the damage?”
“No, my sister says that Solomon plans to hold the current position. Auntie will be moving soon too.”
“….”
Was it because of someone Veronica mentioned? For a split second, Paula couldn’t manage her expression.
“Ahem.”
Noticing my changing demeanor, I pretended to cough discreetly.
“Anyway, once Viola moves, we shouldn’t have to worry anymore.”
The Solomon Family had severed the Sanchez Family’s middle ground, and Viola was set to secure the northern area.
The Russo Family had given a jolt to the Vipers, but even that was considered enough help.
“And there’s one more thing. It seems the Marinelli Family is planning to move more seriously.”
“The Marinellis?”
Surely, Boss Vito Marinelli wouldn’t be moving himself.
But I could guess why the Marinelli Family was now so proactive. They probably wanted to monopolize the supply of Blue Eyes from the Carmen Family as quickly as possible.
Or maybe they were trying to expand their influence and voice within the Five Families by showing their worth through this operation.
“Looks like Luca Marinelli is joining Manfredi.”
“Oh, that guy.”
Luca Marinelli.
The younger brother of Felicita, who got severely reprimanded after making some cocky remarks to me.
He was also a Caporegime in the Marinelli Family, splitting Greenbug territory alongside Kambara.
I continued to discuss various matters with Veronica. The conversation lasted longer than expected, so much so that I resumed my meal halfway through.
As I listened to Veronica, I mentally sorted out what I needed to discuss with Elena and what I could leave out.
“Oh, brother. And there’s something Mother asked me to tell you.”
“Already getting a bad feeling about this.”
“You’re quite perceptive.”
Paula replied with a slight smile at my response, which only heightened my unease.
“Mother wants to pay respects at the late Godfather’s grave.”
“….”
I couldn’t respond readily. I bet Elena would absolutely refuse.
A foolish woman who clung to my father and couldn’t let go even after his death.
It was true that Elena and I benefited from her actions. In return, the Carmen Family was able to enter the ranks of the Five Families.
“….”
Veronica and Paula were only waiting for my answer.
“Alright, let’s do it.”
I suppose I couldn’t stop her from doing that.
