“What on earth is going on here?”
Felicita asked me, looking perplexed, but honestly, I had no idea what to say.
“What do you mean, what’s going on? Your crazy bird is just babbling nonsense.”
Elena said, lightly tapping the cage containing the Tokotukan.
Well, it was more than just tapping, wasn’t it? The bird inside was bouncing around like crazy, nearly falling off its perch from the shaking.
“How about we just get your hands out of the cage first? I don’t want to ruin a perfectly nice day because of you.”
“Hah, really? Same here.”
Elena seemed to lose interest in arguing with her as Felicita continued blabbing like she was an obstacle.
I felt a huge wave of relief as I saw Elena back off at this point.
“Luke, I’m heading out. See you in our room tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
As Elena moved to exit the building, Felicita came closer to me.
“….”
But as she got nearer, her face scrunched up in disgust.
“…You did something with Elena, didn’t you?”
“No, it’s not like that….”
Damn it. I couldn’t resist Elena’s temptation, and that second round this afternoon was definitely my folly.
Forgetting to cover up the traces of what happened last night? I must be losing it.
“Can you not be so harsh on my brother? And it’s not a big deal; they’re married for heaven’s sake.”
“…Elena, I’m going to be honest. You’ve had plenty of chances to have a child with Luke. How about just accepting it already?”
“Felicita.”
“What are you even talking about?”
I tried to cut Felicita off, but both Elena and Felicita were too engrossed in their conversation to care.
“You’re not really in love with Luke, are you?”
“….”
Elena’s expression turned icy in a split second. It felt less like being hit with the truth and more like she was genuinely fed up.
“What’s that supposed to mean? It sounds like a load of crap. If you say that kind of nonsense again, I’m going to tear your mouth open. Be careful.”
“Elena.”
“Luke, didn’t you hear? This girl started it!”
Elena reacted scornfully to Felicita, as if she couldn’t believe someone would meddle in her love life.
“Feeling guilty about something?”
“What?!”
“Felicita, stop. That’s enough.”
“Isn’t it the truth? You just see me and Luke’s relationship as a threat to your power.”
Despite my attempts to reign her in, Felicita showed no signs of stopping her attack on Elena.
Part of what she said might be true. But I knew better than Felicita how Elena had changed.
Having been there to witness it firsthand.
If Felicita’s feelings and actions towards me were all just an act… well, a lot of actors in this world would be starving to death.
“You know what? I was Luke’s wife way before you barged in.”
“Sure, it was a fake marriage. It was so notorious that even the Five Families knew about your rocky relationship. Fake love, fake sister. You must feel great about everything being fake, huh?”
“….”
“Felicita, knock it off.”
It seemed like both of them were aiming for a showdown today. What happened next was complete chaos.
As I was trying to defuse the situation, Elena came charging back from the entrance and tackled Felicita.
I couldn’t hear any screaming or cursing. Elena was using her superior physique to wrap her arms around Felicita’s neck and choke her out.
“….”
But Felicita didn’t just back down. She somehow managed to push Elena’s arms away and, at the same time, wrapped her long tail around Elena’s neck, starting to choke her too.
A dizzying standoff where both were choking each other without a care.
Felicita’s tail wrapped tightly around Elena’s neck while Elena’s nails were digging into Felicita’s skin, both of their necks starting to turn red.
“Heb!”
I did my best to separate them while calling out for Heb.
“Kiiiiiik!”
Heb fluttered over, hastily flying in at the sight of two struggling figures.
Elena flinched at Heb’s sudden appearance, but she didn’t stop attacking Felicita.
As Heb flitted between them to heal their wounds… I reluctantly decided to pull out my last resort.
“Both of you, stop it!”
With a loud shout, I hit Elena hard on the chin. Given the size difference, I didn’t hold back; it was a sincere punch.
A solid hit to the chin would transfer shock from the jaw to the skull, and if it was strong enough, it could lead to a knockout due to the force rolling into the brain.
“Hhhg!”
As Elena collapsed suddenly, Felicita, who was still choking her, was freed.
She roughly shoved Elena aside and used my support to stand back up. Heb stayed with her, healing her neck wounds.
*
In some cases, I might have wanted to subdue Felicita as well, but it didn’t seem necessary.
She was more concerned about the baby in her belly being affected by the fight than about her own injuries.
“Felicita, let me just take Elena to her room for a moment.”
“Sure.”
Not a word was spoken as I carried Elena out of Felicita’s room.
The Tokotukan, which had been squawking before, seemed to be in shock from the commotion and had gone silent.
“Ugh….”
Moving Elena, who was much bigger than me, turned out to be tougher than I expected. Since she was completely out cold, I had to bear her entire weight.
“Elena, I’m sorry.”
I carefully laid her on the bed and covered her with a blanket.
Even though she wouldn’t hear it, I couldn’t help it. Unlike Felicita, who was pregnant, I couldn’t risk hurting Elena.
After returning to Felicita’s room, I checked on her condition.
“…Looks like there won’t be any scars. Other than her neck, she didn’t get hurt anywhere else, right?”
“I’m fine… It’s all thanks to Heb.”
As I confirmed her neck, Felicita pointed to Heb, who was still busy munching away.
“Luke, I’m okay now, so you should take a bath first.”
It seemed like she couldn’t stand the scent of Elena on me. After I took my bath as she wished and returned to her side,
“….”
Felicita leaned her tired head silently against my shoulder.
“Luke, how many times have you been with Elena?”
“Do you really have to ask that?”
“I didn’t expect you to do that while I was away.”
It wasn’t just a little while, but I stayed silent. Even though she was absent, I still enjoyed my time with Elena, which was undeniable.
“…At least you remembered to feed the animals.”
“Thanks to that, you found out I was with Elena.”
It was true I had forgotten about bathing because I was preoccupied with feeding Felicita’s animals. Meanwhile, Felicita playfully tapped me a few times but then stopped.
“Luke, what should we name our baby?”
Felicita, who looked extremely tired, asked. The moment had finally arrived.
“We still don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, right?”
“Yeah, I’m fine with either. What about you, Luke?”
“…I guess I feel the same; I don’t really mind if it’s a boy or a girl.”
I didn’t think I’d care about the affection or attention based on the gender.
“If it’s a boy, how about Vito?”
I could almost hear Elena gasping if she heard that. Vito was our father’s name.
Of course, it was also the name of Felicita’s father, Vito Marinelli.
From Felicita’s perspective, it was a way to scratch at Elena’s nerves legally while claiming the most meaningful name.
“And if it’s not a boy but a girl?”
“I haven’t decided yet. Got any good ideas?”
“What about your mother’s name?”
“Then it would be… Aila Felini.”
Both my mother and Felicita’s mother had passed away long ago. Felicita seemed to like the idea I mentioned.
“A boy will be Vito. A girl will be Aila. I like it.”
“Really? That’s great to hear.”
Even in her exhausted state, Felicita seemed to want to make up for lost time with me.
She stayed close, not wanting to let go, while checking to see how much I had fed the animals.
“…For a first-timer, you did fine.”
Suddenly, Felicita started writing something down.
“What are you writing?”
“I’m noting how much the animals are eating. Who knows when something like this might happen again?”
While she was busy jotting down the animals’ food amounts, the phone suddenly rang. Picking it up, I could hear Viola’s voice.
“Miss, you didn’t answer your phone.”
“Oh, I was a bit preoccupied.”
There was no way I could tell her I knocked Elena out while wrestling over Felicita. That would greatly diminish her status as the boss.
“So, what’s up?”
“My men have taken down the Anglewood with the help of the Russo Family.”
The containment of Anglewood was meant to be entirely handled by the Russo Family. That was a condition for returning our occupied southern Haywoods to them.
But it seemed Viola had decided to speed up the timing for Anglewood to fall under her control, even going so far as to mobilize her men.
“Good job.”
There was still a need to clean up the northeastern part of the city and claim it for our family. Viola was certainly one of the suitable candidates for that push.
Without her, the Caporegime in the north and northeast would be either a bodyguard who just became a boss after taking out his prior boss or the leader of the Dwarf Gang who had surrendered to us.
However, I couldn’t make decisions without discussing them with Elena.
“For now, focus on stabilizing and sorting out the territories for a bit.”
“Yes, that’s exactly what I was planning to do.”
Thus, my brief call with Viola concluded.
What a busy evening it was on this chaotic day.
Felicita and I headed to the hotel’s restaurant for dinner, and Elena appeared like it was nothing.
“….”
“….”
Elena and Felicita didn’t hide the animosity towards each other, but they didn’t get into a physical fight at the dinner table.
“Luke, want to try this?”
“Oh, I’m good.”
In the awkward air, Felicita offered me her food, trying to create a friendly atmosphere.
Naturally, Elena followed Felicita’s lead, and I, having ordered a modest amount, found myself stuffed faster than either of them.
“Elena, how’s your neck?”
“…It’s fine.”
Thanks to Heb’s efforts. Elena didn’t seem keen on admitting she had received help from that creepy moth.
Afterward, I once again confirmed our plans to deal with the Nun Robber Gang with Elena.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of those.”
Elena and the Caporegimes in the central part of the city were set to handle it. I also informed Elena about the phone call I received from Viola while she was passed out.
“Viola?”
I explained how she had hurried the downfall of Anglewood by mobilizing not only the Russo Family but also her own forces and was starting on managing her territory.
“With the new district allocations, I think I should check on the changed Caporegimes.”
“Yeah, that makes sense.”
Elena sighed at the amount of work we had ahead of us.
After a decent amount of time passed, our dinner concluded, and I parted ways with Elena for a peaceful night with Felicita.
Of course, Felicita looked extremely tired. She fell asleep shortly after lying down next to me.
Today had been whatever it was, but the usual Felicita would have made sure we had our fun together.
“….”
Well, thanks to that, I could finally get some proper rest too, after all that with Elena.
Tomorrow was set to be another day with Elena, but… I had a feeling it wouldn’t differ much from today. The news about Felicita’s pregnancy was a sure-fire excitement.
Perhaps this situation would last until Elena got pregnant too.
Just thinking about it was daunting, but I couldn’t blame anyone else but myself for it.
