To sum it up, Vanella and Lumini successfully dealt with the Nun Robber Gang.
However, there was one unexpected twist during the process. Lumini quickly reported the incident to the Boss.
Of course, what occurred between Vanella and the gang leader had to be… slightly sanitized.
“What?!”
“Still, we managed to capture them all. Miss, what should we do now?”
“…Just wait a moment.”
Elena, after abruptly hanging up on Lumini, said nothing, simply pinching her forehead with her hand.
“What’s the matter? What happened?”
I happened to be right next to Elena, having just returned from Eccelotti’s territory.
I had been in the middle of reporting the results of my encounter with Eccelotti. I dealt with Eccelotti and his henchmen on-site, then proceeded to clean up the remaining subordinates in his area.
Only a few chose to resist after hearing about Eccelotti’s fate and that it was the Boss’s order.
Most of the gang members surrendered and dropped their weapons, and those kids were lucky enough to keep their lives.
After all, the one who messed up this time wasn’t them but their Boss, Eccelotti.
“Vanella caused another incident.”
“What kind of incident?”
“….”
Elena’s face turned red before she could even relay to me what she heard from Lumini.
“While that bastard was up to something weird with the gang leader, Lumini seemingly took down the rest in one sweep.”
Weird stuff?
“Elena, the gang leader is a woman, right?”
Given that the gang was pretending to be nuns, it made sense. I wouldn’t even want to think about a man masquerading as one.
“…Yeah.”
“Then I have a rough idea of what happened.”
“But it seems they weren’t just pretending to be nuns; they actually were real nuns.”
“…Hagen and the bishop never mentioned that.”
Well, I could guess why they didn’t. If it became public knowledge that the gang posing as nuns were actually real nuns, the backlash from the religious community would be immense.
“Then we’ve got something to discuss.”
I decided to confront Hagen and Bishop Smith about this.
“Elena, the gang isn’t dead yet, right?”
“Yeah, according to Lumini, they’re still alive.”
Looks like they managed to capture everyone, including the gang leader who was having a good time with Vanella.
Elena heard from Lumini that the leader seemed to be quite the hefty woman. Eating a hefty nun? That was quite the crazy stunt for Vanella.
“Luke, how about we get out of these clothes first?”
“Ah.”
Now that I think about it, I rushed to report to Elena right after arriving at the hotel without changing my clothes. Or maybe I was just getting too accustomed to such situations.
When I shot Eccelotti in the head up close, the splattered red blood looked almost like modern art to me.
“Go wash up first. I’ll take care of your clothes.”
“No, I can handle it…”
Now that I mentioned it, I think something similar happened with Felicita. Before I could finish my thought, Elena started undressing me.
The occasional greedy touches from Elena as she groped my body were just a bonus.
“…Elena.”
“So what? It’s not like touching it will wear it out.”
I couldn’t help but wonder if the Elena standing before me was truly the same one I had known all these years in this world. Can a person change this much?
After a quick wash, I decided to continue our conversation.
“Men sure can wash up quickly.”
“Well, that’s obvious. It all starts with hair length.”
I’m not one to fuss over my appearance to begin with.
“….”
“Elena, do you have something to say?”
Given that she was staring at me yet looking away, it was clear she did. When Elena acted like that, it meant she had something on her mind.
“I got a call from Vanella while you were washing.”
“What did she say?”
Could it be that she already formed a bond with the nun in that short period?
“The gang said they’ll handle it well and asked us to spare their lives.”
“….”
Just as Elena scrunched her face, mirroring my own reaction to Vanella’s request, I rubbed my forehead.
“Hagen and the bishop would be satisfied if we deal with this properly.”
“To be fair, they were the ones who hid things from us first.”
Yeah, those guys were sending us on a task without ever mentioning that the Nun Robber Gang were actual nuns.
They couldn’t possibly see us as just simple errand boys.
“So how does Vanella plan to handle this?”
“She suggested we let those nuns run the orphanage we operate.”
Elena relayed more of Vanella’s thoughts. She mentioned that stopping the activities of the Nun Robber Gang is important, and that they got an oath from all the gang members promising they wouldn’t masquerade as nuns again.
On top of that, letting these real nuns manage the orphanage.
The Felini Family operates several orphanages in this city. The reason why we mafiosos run orphanages is mainly twofold.
First, it serves as a tax haven for us to launder money.
Second, it’s a way to train promising kids among the orphans to become Wolves.
Despite those motives, our orphanages are run properly.
Because if we abuse kids or do something strange, it would end up causing us more trouble in the long run.
However, since our reason for running the orphanage is the reason, there were always issues with staffing throughout the process.
I wonder if there are any better candidates for operating a mafia family’s orphanage than former nuns who have killed people….
“Elena, what do you think?”
“It does sound plausible. The orphanage has always been a problem.”
The issue Elena mentioned must have been related to staffing, just as I thought.
“Anyway, the gang would choose to live if given the option.”
“…But those women don’t exactly have a choice right now.”
Elena and I were in agreement. Vanella’s proposed choice seemed pretty decent, so we decided to heed her request.
Elena then made a direct call to Vanella.
“Vanella, it’s me.”
I could hear the noisy sounds from the receiver even over here.
While it wasn’t crystal clear owing to the distance, it was obvious Vanella was eagerly anticipating what Elena had to say.
“We’ll do as you suggested. We’ll let those women handle the orphanage.”
However, conditions were attached.
Even though they were former nuns, they must not act like nuns in any way.
And they must not commit any crimes while managing our Family’s orphanage, including their activities as a gang.
Lastly, if any problems arise, Vanella would take full responsibility.
“Understood.”
I heard a loud response from the receiver, clear enough this time because I moved a bit closer to Elena.
Elena told Vanella that further details would be communicated through the Consigliere.
“I wonder how Salmo will react when he hears what Vanella did.”
“Well, he’ll probably call her crazy.”
‘Crazy’ Vanella. She truly lived up to her nickname. But she had presented a solid use for those nuns, proving once again she wasn’t dumb.
“She’s quite a character.”
“She’s a rare breed in the mafia and among humans too.”
With the Nun Robber Gang issue resolved and the caporegime causing problems within the Family eliminated, we needed to reorganize ourselves after new territory distribution before starting activities again.
Right now, we had to form a new Five Families with Marinelli, Solomon, and Russo.
“Time sure flew by.”
After finishing the call with Vanella, I checked the time, realizing it was time for dinner as usual.
“Elena, head to the restaurant first. I’ll bring Felicita with me.”
“…Don’t stray off; come straight back. Got it?”
“Got it.”
Since I only had to take the elevator to the top floor, Elena’s warning likely meant… don’t get cozy with Felicita and make love in the meantime.
I nodded, acknowledging her.
As Elena headed to the elevator, I made my way to Felicita’s Room.
As soon as I opened the door, I saw Felicita standing by the window holding Hebili.
“Felicita.”
“Welcome.”
From her expression, it seemed she had been aware of my arrival but chose to stay still.
“Time seems to be passing so slowly. I just wish our baby would be born already.”
Felicita said, gently stroking her lower belly.
“Hibli, play for a bit.”
Immediately after, she tossed her pet Hebili with both hands. But somehow, Hebili appeared to fly gracefully from Felicita’s hands, only to come back around and land right back on her head.
“….”
I couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight. Felicita’s frozen expression when Hebili moved unexpectedly was just too funny.
“Feli, let’s leave Hebili and go have dinner.”
“Just a minute.”
Felicita wanted to prepare the food for Hebili and her other pets. Now that I had a grasp on things, I helped her gather the various animals’ feeds.
It’s only natural that things would go faster if two people worked instead of one.
Hebili and the Tokotukan along with the other pets were busy devouring the food given to them.
“Alright, let’s go now.”
“Luke, there was some news from the Rat Hole related to you.”
“…Me?”
She had said before that the information from the Rat Hole was merely for reference.
But seeing the serious expression on her face, it was clear that it was something worth discussing despite her previous warning.
“What about?”
“I think they found your biological sister.”
“What?”
What in the world? I have a biological sister? I mean, considering she once tossed her child into the streets, she could do it again, but…
Hearing that made me momentarily speechless.
“…Are you sure?”
“Well, it’s information from the Rat Hole, so it’s not 100% certain.”
Felicita said that and then showed me a photo she received from the Rat Hole. Oddly enough, it wasn’t in black and white but in color.
Wow, the Rat Hole guys can afford color photos now?
“….”
In the picture was a woman.
Her face obscured by a mask, but her hair color was the same as mine… and seeing her long ears, it was evident she was an elf too.
Just because our hair color matches doesn’t mean I should jump to the conclusion that she’s my sister, but it’s true that my hair color is quite unique.
Unless Elena copied my dye job, I’d never seen anyone with a hair color like mine.
“So who’s this woman in the photo?”
“Does the mask look familiar?”
When I heard Felicita’s question, it made me think.
Could it really be that I have a biological sister, and by some twist of fate, she happens to be a subordinate of Rita Carmen?
