Make Our Family Great Again – Chapter 83

David C. Paragoni, the congressman from Hebili District 4.

The conversation I had personally at the restaurant near his office turned out to be mostly pointless.

Paragoni didn’t get what he wanted from me; instead, he ended up with a bump on his head.

I jumped straight into my bulletproof car and headed to the place where my wives were waiting—the Lupus Carlton Hotel.

“Brother, do you think that congressman will really take back his words?”

“Well, no one knows what he’ll do until we see it with our own eyes. It wouldn’t look good for him to be seen backtracking.”

Godfather Vito Felini.

My father, who raised me despite not being related by blood.

Paragoni, being a congressman, can’t openly grieve for my father’s death, but he shouldn’t be waving a dagger either.

He has benefited greatly from my father, yet he pretends to be clean in front of my father’s death.

And then he even mentioned demons.

If it were up to me, I would want to kill that aide alongside him and let their bodies sink into the vast ocean.

But no matter how you slice it, he is a congressman. Killing him would do no good for the family or this city’s underworld.

What just happened was merely a performance to intimidate Paragoni and that aide.

“Brother, who should we assign the newspaper intimidation to?”

“Let’s go with a suitable guy. Just not the Wolf or our own members.”

“That leaves only one option.”

Hitmen.

The underbelly of this city known as Hebili is rivaled only by the surface in scale.

That’s why there are tons of hitmen who either belong to a specific organization or operate independently.

Just like there are reliable informants for our family apart from the Rat Hole.

The same goes for hitmen. It would be great if every job could be handled by members of the Wolf and the family, but reality isn’t that simple.

“Should we contact Ant?”

“Ant is fine, but let’s call one more. It won’t hurt to be sure.”

The Ant that a different Wolf mentioned isn’t an actual ant.

His real name is George Skela. There’s a unique story behind his nickname.

He doesn’t think he’s some kind of ant-man, but he uses bullets that he soaked in hydrogen cyanide.

When hydrogen cyanide dissolves in water, it becomes cyanide.

Yes, the exact same cyanide used in poison.

He was called ‘Ant’ for using bullets that are loaded with mountain potassium, acting like he’s some kind of real ant.

“And I think we should call McClun, too.”

McClun is a deer-man with striking red horns.

I don’t know the specifics, but I’ve heard he had quite a name for himself back in his homeland before crossing the sea to this country.

He could have just been a criminal, or maybe an ex-cop who had no hesitation in using violence.

Unlike Ant, this guy works with a group. And that group is made up of other deer-men.

Though they’re just called deer, among them are elk and moose.

From my perspective of collecting various races, they’re quite appealing.

Well, I’m not too worried about it now since I have a Gollyman who’s just as good.

“Ant and Deer. Seems a bit excessive for a newspaper.”

“Excessive isn’t bad. As long as it’s not overdone.”

Though we talked about this and that, the most important thing was whether or not Paragoni would apologize for his blunder regarding my father.

“…”

Before I knew it, the car I was in had arrived at the port. There was no need to head to the wharf or the restaurant near the hotel.

As soon as I got out in front of the hotel, the Wolf and the members of our organization approached the car.

Given the assassination attempt just a few days ago, this level of presence was necessary. Even if I said I was fine, Elena and Felicita would still insist on this.

“Elena isn’t inside, right?”

“Yes, brother.”

Fortunately, both Elena and Felicita seemed to be in their places.

After all, both were pregnant with my child, and after the assassination attempt, their safety was prioritized.

It was only natural.

“…”

“Are you going up to the top floor today as well?”

“Yeah.”

As the elevator reached the first floor, a relatively new bellboy asked.

Usually, new faces like this could easily be planted spies. It’s not always the case, but it can be.

If he’s a spy, it could be Carmen, Sanchez, or Dragovich. Or perhaps he might even be sent by some black folks.

Of course, suspicion is just that—suspicion.

There’s also the chance that this kid is just a regular new bellboy.

Assuming my instructions to keep an eye on the suspicious new bellboy were properly followed.

“Top floor.”

There were several people in the elevator, but I was the only one getting off on the top floor.

“Luke?”

“Feli.”

Veronica was at the Union Office of the Academy. The only ones waiting to greet me on the top floor were my two wives.

However, Felicita came out not from her own room but from Elena’s Room.

Today was the day I was supposed to be with Elena.

“Were you with Elena?”

“Yeah. We talked for a bit.”

I hoped they hadn’t gotten into any physical fights.

Both of my wives were pregnant, and roughhousing would do no good for the baby.

“Come on, let’s get inside.”

Felicita pulled me into the room, as if asking how long I was going to stay outside.

In the process, she naturally linked her arm with mine, and at that moment, Elena turned to look at us.

“Luke, you’re here? You came earlier than usual today.”

“Yeah. I just had something to talk about.”

“Is it about the underboss and the Palmas guys?”

“No. By the way, where’s Salmo?”

“He’s over at the restaurant having a quick meal.”

I was supposed to meet him after work. By chance, I finished work early, and he was already inside the hotel.

However, it seemed the consigliere hadn’t had time to eat properly. If it were up to me, I would want to join him, but I decided to talk about Paragoni first.

“Well then, let me start with my story. Is that alright?”

“Yeah, of course.”

Elena and Felicita were ready to listen to me.

“The Financial King Hagen contacted me, asking to solve a problem regarding David C. Paragoni.”

“Hagen?”

Elena seemed to focus more on Financial King Hagen than Paragoni. It made sense; he hadn’t been in touch for quite a while.

“Paragoni… that roguish elf?”

Felicita asked.

“Yeah, it’d be a relief if he were just a rogue.”

Loudmouth, scam artist, narcissist. Those would be the most fitting words to summarize Paragoni in one phrase.

*

“Actually, his district overlaps with our family’s territory.”

“Right, to be exact, it’s on your side of Elena’s district. Anyway, according to Hagen, I’ve met him once.”

It turned into a posthumous report by chance, but Elena didn’t mind at all. Now, I was a boss of the same family as her.

“This newspaper seems to be causing various troubles.”

I showed both of my wives the newspaper that Paragoni and his aide had handed me.

“…”

“After all, you have to admit that elves are lascivious.”

The reactions of my two wives to the article indicating that Paragoni might have enjoyed relations with two white women were quite different.

Elena seemed flabbergasted and at a loss for words, while Felicita took a jab at Paragoni’s race.

“What? You know your husband is an elf too, right?”

“Yeah. I’m aware that my husband’s brother is also an elf.”

As soon as Felicita finished her sentence, Elena grabbed her head.

“Ah, wait. Are you not letting go?!”

Startled by Elena’s sudden action, Felicita resisted, but there was no way she could physically overpower Elena.

Reluctantly, I intervened to let Elena release her grip.

“My hair is all messed up now. Honestly…”

“It’s lucky it’s only that much.”

Even though the conversation was cut short by Elena, I resumed the topic.

What Paragoni wanted from me was to threaten the newspaper that published his sexual scandal to… issue a correction notice.

What I would gain in return wasn’t decided yet, but before granting that request, I laid down my conditions.

“…Yeah, he did say that.”

Mentioning Paragoni’s past comments about how the devil disappeared from this city following our father’s death made Elena visibly uncomfortable.

“He’s lacking in respect towards the deceased. But, he’s a politician, so it can’t be helped.”

Felicita expressed this somewhat neutrally, but she was still watching me and Elena.

“So? What are you planning to do now?”

“I plan to see whether he holds up his end of the bargain. What do you think, Elena?”

“…If he picks up his words, I wouldn’t mind.”

“And I’m thinking of leaving this matter to others rather than just our kids.”

I mentioned the hitmen Ant and Deer, as we had discussed in the car.

“Luke, I’ll leave the Paragoni issue to you. You’ve been dealing with Hagen anyway.”

“Got it. But what are we going to do about the Palmas people?”

“I’ll kill them all.”

Elena repeated the answer she had just given to Felicita. Though I might not have known it.

“Those who are trying to surrender?”

“Luke, I agree with you, but you could have been in trouble.”

Felicita seemed to share the same thought as Elena regarding this matter.

And it looked like Elena had already made thorough preparations to wipe out the Palmas clan altogether.

“Alright. It can’t be helped.”

The Palmas Family wasn’t one of the pillars of the Five Families like the Russo Family, so I thought it’d be fine.

Still, I urged Elena to handle it cautiously.

Being too emotional could jeopardize things.

Now that we had discussed Paragoni and the Palmas Family… it was time to decide on the underboss.

Elena called the restaurant to summon Salmo. It seemed he had finished his meal.

As Anthony Salmo headed up to the top floor, we had already begun discussing underboss candidates.

“Can I really be part of this meeting?”

“If you know, you can head back to your room.”

“No, I think I’d prefer to stay here.”

Felicita was, once again, trying to charm everyone, but this time, Elena didn’t immediately retaliate.

“Well, I don’t think it would hurt to hear Felicita’s opinion.”

“Luke.”

But as soon as I took Felicita’s side, Elena immediately reacted.

It seemed she couldn’t tolerate that much.
