“I’m going to make you regret insulting me, human!”
He flew past us at high speed, a cloud of dust swirling in his wake.
“Plaus! Can you catch that thing?”
“…I have a plan.”
I glanced at the two swords.
“Ariel, when I give the signal, lift me up and help me land safely.”
I lacked the strength to jump high or land safely from great heights. I inevitably needed her assistance.
Moreover, she knew I was weak, so she was the only one I could ask for such help.
“And I need you to use your magic to its limit and create a barrier to minimize damage around us during this battle.”
“Create a barrier, you say?”
“If we fight the Black Dragon, it will definitely affect the city wall.”
The Black Dragon was not someone you could damage with lackluster attacks. I had to go all out against this opponent.
“…Understood. I’ll do my best.”
She closed her eyes, stretched her arms forward, and began to chant. I turned my gaze towards the flying Black Dragon.
[The one accompanying you is the Spirit King. You think you can beat me with the power of the Spirit King, but I am stronger than that Spirit King!]
The Black Dragon, approaching us, opened its mouth wide, swirling black flames forming a sphere inside.
“‘Blackening.’”
Blackening. That was the name of the breath attack unleashed by the Black Dragon.
Honestly, I was grateful that the Black Dragon’s breath wasn’t in solid form. If it had been, it would have been way trickier to tackle.
“Pasma, when the breath comes, block it with the Glass Sword and counterattack.”
“Got it.”
First, I needed to clip its wings so it couldn’t fly.
“Take this, primitive human!”
How bold of him to threaten me while clinging to his own mouth.
Whoosh!
The blackening he unleashed surged toward me in an instant. The enormous, circular flame looked like a meteor.
Not only was it setting everything around it ablaze, but it also approached me with a destructive force that could obliterate everything as soon as it hit the ground.
The power of that attack was said to be akin to nuclear devastation.
However, with this sword, I had nothing to worry about. The Glass Sword could absorb any skill.
Just as the blackening was about to touch me, Pasma swung the sword using my body. The moment the tip made contact, the massive circular flames completely vanished. Technically, they were absorbed.
As the heat dissipated, pain shot through my forearm.
Smoke was rising from my skin, and my flesh was peeling away. I had been burned.
And I hadn’t even made contact.
Surely, had it not been for the two gems around my neck, I would have either been infected by the magic beast or scorched to death. It’s not that I was unscathed, though.
“What the?!”
The dragon flinched at seeing its attack blocked.
That made it one down.
“What did you just do?!”
“None of your business.”
Pasma spoke confidently and attempted to swing the Glass Sword. I quickly chanted the name of my skill.
“‘Dynamic Action.’”
The blackening that had been directed at me surged out from my sword towards the Black Dragon.
“What…!”
The Black Dragon, unable to dodge the unexpected counterattack, was hit directly by the blackening.
Boom!
A tremendous shockwave tore through the ground and ripped through the clouds, aimed at us.
Yet, it stopped right before me. As if it had hit a wall, the shock force was redirected upwards.
“Ugh! Plaus, what did you do?!”
“I just used a skill.”
Dynamic Action was a superior skill to Rewind.
While Rewind would return the impact it received, Dynamic Action absorbed the power of skills, sending it back out as an attack.
Additionally, it had the capability to ‘accumulate’ power, allowing me to release the absorbed force at will. It was far more versatile than Rewind.
No wonder it was one of the ultimate items.
“If it weren’t for me, that barrier would have been broken! How powerful is your mana?!”
Ignoring Ariel’s complaints, I strode toward the plummeting Black Dragon.
“‘High-Speed Movement.’”
The once densely wooded area had been decimated by the shockwave, leaving no obstacles in my path.
“Pasma, pour all your mana into your weapon and use the Phantom Wave Slash. Ariel, lift me up.”
“Really… don’t go wild!”
As I jumped, she used Wind Magic to lift me. I leaped several dozen meters, looking down at the Black Dragon still floundering on the ground.
A great aura, over three meters high, was generated by my thirst for vengeance.
“How can a human possess such power?!”
“You don’t need to wonder. You’re going to die here anyway.”
Pasma took her stance.
“It must be a fluke! It must be! Just a human!”
Once again, blackening gathered in the dragon’s mouth, this time much larger and more menacing than before.
But Pasma wasn’t the type to sit back and let that happen.
“‘Phantom Wave Slash.’”
“Ugh!”
Boom!
Crimson blood sprayed from the Black Dragon’s armor as its left wing crashed to the ground.
No matter how tough that armor was, if my mana was stronger than a hero’s, it would easily surpass the Black Dragon’s defense.
“Ariel.”
Upon hearing her name, she immediately guided me with wind. Safely landing, I quickly readied myself again.
The Black Dragon’s mouth was still gathering energy, more potent than the previous blackening it had unleashed at me.
Recognizing the skill, I positioned ‘Greed-Eating Glass’ in front of me.
If that energy reached somewhere else, it would bring disaster.
That skill was on an entirely different level compared to blackening. If it struck properly, it could annihilate the entire capital.
“‘Black Flame Annihilation.’”
Right. You’re really going to resist until the end, aren’t you?
But because your attack is a skill, this sword will never be penetrated.
“Die!!”
Boom!
A massive violet energy orb was hurled toward me.
Even back when I played games, I thought it looked cool.
Yet now, as I watched the Black Flame Annihilation headed straight for me, I felt both excited and a tad scared.
“Pasma, prepare the Phantom Wave Slash.”
“I was ready even without you saying so.”
“Then hold on for a sec.”
I observed the vortex of vengeance gathering.
“What?”
My mana may have been fake, but Pasma’s mana management was real.
Once again, without any shock, the Black Flame Annihilation was absorbed into the Glass Sword. My forearm turned a bright crimson from the heat, swelling and bubbling.
I bit my lower lip hard to endure the excruciating pain.
That made it the second one.
“What in the world…? Why can’t my Black Flame Annihilation reach you?!”
“Because I’m stronger than you.”
I slammed the vengeance into the glass. The power of Phantom Wave Slash was absorbed by my weapon.
That’s the third one.
“Farewell, Black Dragon.”
I never thought I’d really get to use this technique in reality.
Gripping the Glass Sword tightly, I swung it and chanted the skill name.
“‘Phantom Black Flame Slash.’”
A skill that combined Black Flame Annihilation and Phantom Wave Slash.
This was a skill that could only be executed once through the synergy of Ariel’s Phantom Wave Slash and Iris’s Dynamic Action in the game.
The purple flame took the form of a massive sword strike as it flew toward the Black Dragon.
“How can a human be so strong—”
The Black Dragon couldn’t finish its sentence. Before its words could even conclude, the striking blade cleaved right through its head.
Boom!
A staggering shockwave followed.
“Ow! Plaus! Seriously…!”
Ariel complained as she infused mana into the barrier. The shockwave that swept toward us rose and scattered everything.
And as the aftershock settled and the dust that had been pulverized slowly descended, the scene before me could only be described with a single word.
Devastation.
There was nothing left where the impact had hit.
In many ways, it was more profound than even the Phantom Storm.
Had it not been for Ariel, I would never have even dared to entertain such thoughts.
“How can a human be so strong…”
I murmured, recalling its last words.
“This world was designed as a game for humans to win.”
No matter how high the difficulty or how many bad endings, since the goal is a happy ending, this world inevitably allowed humans to prevail.
“Phew… This is tough.”
I leaned back and said.
It seemed I had drained quite a bit of mana into the Phantom Wave Slash, as I was drenched in cold sweat. It certainly wasn’t easy.
“You were the one leading this battle.”
As I caught my breath and looked down at the Glass Sword, a loud crack echoed.
The blade of ‘Greed-Eating Glass’ shattered.
That was its way of indicating it could be used three times a day. It would automatically restore the next day.
“What is this…?”
Ariel stared blankly. She suddenly turned her head to me and walked over briskly.
“Plaus, what were those skills just now? What was that Glass Sword…?”
“Don’t ask too many questions. You might get hurt.”
I replied as I stored the two swords. I had also released the spirit skill, completely expending my mana.
“Still, thank you, Ariel. I’m glad you were here.”
Rather than explaining about the artifact, I acknowledged her hard work and patted her back.
While we did destroy some of the mining area during the fight, the achievement of defeating the Black Dragon was nothing to scoff at.
Now that I had met the conditions, perhaps it was time to pay a visit to Duke Rexton’s face.
