This World is too Cruel to Men – Chapter 289

Yoonseo’s Perspective

It was almost always the case, but when the atmosphere became awkward, it was once again Dogun who took the initiative to break the ice.

“Uh… what do you want to do first?”

I wondered if that was what he was really curious about.

It certainly made sense.

After all, there was a lot around us to consider.

It was almost embarrassing to think I had doubted Chae-rim’s words about this being a fun place.

“Just a moment.”

I requested Dogun’s patience and pulled out my mobile phone for a completely different reason.

From Dogun’s perspective, seeing me suddenly fiddling with my phone instead of answering his question must have seemed odd.

“What are you doing?”

Dogun’s voice, tinged with curiosity, came from where he was standing right after that.

“Oh, I thought I should let my sister know I’ve arrived.”

“Ah…”

Of course, I had no intention of spilling where I was or what I planned to do in detail.

Why bother with that?

It might interrupt our time together.

Today’s outing was primarily to help alleviate any stress Dogun might have been experiencing lately… but still, a date is a date!

Considering it was a rare chance for just the two of us to hang out, I had no intention—or reason—to create a possibility of any interruption myself.

‘If anything happens, she’ll definitely find me anyway…’

If it were Chae-rim, that was certain.

So I decided to set this issue aside for now… and focus on my date with Dogun.

As I resolved this in my mind and put my mobile phone back into my pocket, Dogun spoke up as if he’d been waiting.

“Are you done?”

“Yep.”

“So what do you want to do first?”

Hearing that, I took a moment to shift my gaze from him and glanced around.

But just looking around wasn’t enough to make a decision.

After all, as I mentioned earlier, there were so many options nearby.

Movie theaters and comic cafes could be found anywhere… but…

‘Capybara Cafe…?’

What on earth kind of place was Capybara Cafe?

Considering the word “cafe” was prominently included, it seemed at least like a cafe… but could it possibly be an arrangement of a cat cafe?

So maybe capybaras would be wandering around instead of cats?

There were also many other peculiar-looking places around.

So…

“How about we wander around a bit first? We’ve come all this way…”

“Really? Then?”

Rather than picking a specific place to enter right away, I chose to wander a bit first.

And as I walked with Dogun, I realized every single passerby glanced our way at least once.

When I first realized this, I thought: why are they staring at us?

We weren’t wearing anything strange or doing anything particularly eye-catching, yet everyone kept glancing our way.

‘Why do they have to notice us like that…?’

Thanks to that, I was probably inwardly grumbling.

It was then that I overheard a couple passing by glancing our way.

“Hey babe, did you just see those two?”

“Huh? Who?”

“The ones that just walked by us, you know.”

“Oh… that couple scarf?”

They could only be talking about us.

There was no one else around here dressed like that.

So, I leaned in a bit closer to catch their conversation.

“Yeah, they both looked like high schoolers. They were so cute. I wonder if they’re on a date?”

“Probably, right?”

“Ah… I used to be like that too… Saving up my allowance and part-time job money for couple items and dates…”

“Wait, what?”

“Huh…?”

“Didn’t you say I’m your first love? You’ve never dated anyone before me? Was that all a lie?”

“Ah… um, well…”

“A lie, right? Ha…”

“Babe!”

Thanks to the conversation exchanged between that couple, I realized why passersby had glanced at us at least once.

And once I realized that fact anew…

The glances from those people that had been already somewhat distracting began to feel overwhelmingly intrusive.

What should I say?

I thought maybe everyone was having thoughts similar to that couple’s, which made getting attention from others feel a little embarrassing.

Because of that, I started to think.

I was glad I had worn a scarf.

If I hadn’t?

I would’ve been burying my face in embarrassment instead of hiding my flushed cheeks, possibly making my face bright red from awkwardness in front of Dogun.

And if that had happened… I would have surely been even more embarrassed than now.

As I buried my face in the scarf, I was inwardly relieved.

“Hmm…”

I heard a noise right next to me and glanced over to see Dogun’s gaze fixated on something.

I followed it immediately, but there was nothing in particular to focus on.

“What’s up?”

“Huh? Ah… it’s nothing.”

Was there something bothering him?

He kept tilting his head slightly, which gave me that impression, and as I stared at him curiously, Dogun, realizing that I was looking, quickly tried to change the subject.

“By the way, want to go check that out?”

He pointed a finger at…

“That?”

“Yeah, I’m curious.”

It was the Capybara Cafe I had seen earlier, standing prominently there.
