This World is too Cruel to Men – Chapter 320

It just popped into my head, but I thought it wouldn’t be bad to actually use it.

“Hey.”

“Yeah?”

“Just in case, let’s prepare one more.”

So, I decided to give it a try.

“Another one?”

“The more weapons we have, the better, right?”

Especially since the opponent is Chae-rim.

“Well… that’s true.”

Even though I already felt like my head was about to explode, thinking I had to add one more made a groan escape my lips.

Yoonseo, who initially showed a slightly negative reaction, eventually nodded in agreement to my words.

“So what is it this time?”

“Um… how wide did you say the training hall is?”

As Yoonseo and I went through the preparations to face Chae-rim one by one, time flew by, and before we knew it, it was the day of the duel.

And on the day of the duel, the tension that had unknowingly built up over time exploded all at once.

While Chae-rim was overflowing with ease, Yoonseo was a complete mess from the morning.

Her face was pale, like someone who was sick, clearly signaling, “I’m anxious.”

To calm Yoonseo down, I had to show off my skills early in the morning.

And perhaps my masterpiece, the pork cutlet sandwich, alleviated some of Yoonseo’s anxiety.

“Huuh…”

With a short sigh, Yoonseo’s previously rigid face relaxed just a bit.

“Are you feeling better now?”

“…Yeah.”

Of course, it was only a bit.

‘This isn’t good…’

A moderate level of tension can often lead to positive results.

But the excessive anxiety that was making Yoonseo a complete mess?

That’s just poison.

However, if we stayed mired in that feeling?

The hard work I put into preparing to show off even a little against Chae-rim would likely go to waste.

So I needed to help Yoonseo escape that feeling as soon as possible… but how?

What could I do to help Yoonseo shake off this tension that was wrapping around her?

As I pondered endlessly, sensing that the time to set off for the Association was drawing near, I noticed Yoonseo gripping the tumbler I had given her so tightly that her fingers turned white.

“Are you that nervous?”

“…A little?”

If this wasn’t just anyone but Yoonseo acknowledging it so readily?

That means she was indeed quite tense.

She wasn’t even in a position to act like she was tough anymore.

“Is it that obvious?”

“Yeah.”

Was that even something to say right now?

I switched my mobile phone to selfie mode and showed Yoonseo’s face back to her, and a sound like deflating air escaped her lips as she saw her own reflection.

Well, it was no surprise.

Given her current face, it wouldn’t be odd if a ghost asked her to be friends.

“Ugh…”

Feeling embarrassed about looking like that?

Yoonseo suddenly scrubbed her face roughly with the hand she had raised.

In that moment, I realized what Yoonseo really needed.

What Yoonseo needed was… motivation.

Something that would make her think, “I have to do this!”

That’s what Yoonseo required right now.

The problem was… how to provide that?

Honestly, a method came to mind, but it felt a bit awkward to actually use it.

Still, it didn’t seem right to just waste time without a plan while waiting for another idea.

After all, as I mentioned earlier, time was really running short.

In about 30 minutes, we would have to depart for the Association, and once we got there?

Yoonseo would be dragged straight to the testing venue.

So if I was going to try something?

Now was the only chance.

“Huff…”

This really isn’t how it should be.

But there’s no other choice.

I’d rather do something like this than stand by and watch Yoonseo get hit and called a fool.

“Hey, O Yoonseo.”

“…Uh, yeah?”

Seeing only 30 minutes left made her even more tense, and her expression was nearly dazed as I led her to her room.

As soon as we entered, I sat Yoonseo on the bed and, comparing her usual self, I gently pressed my lips to hers.

Surprised by the sudden kiss?

Before she could say ‘uh…’, her eyes rounded in surprise.

Not missing the chance while Yoonseo was flustered, I kissed her again.

This time… it was deeper.

“Oh, huff, huff…”

Yoonseo sucked in her breath with wide eyes.

Simultaneously, her hands, which had somehow risen up, gripped my clothing tightly.

For a moment, while her body trembled just a little and went soft, I felt a rush to pull away.

And then, leaning close to Yoonseo’s ear, I whispered.

“How was it?”

My question was just as sudden and overt as the first kiss.

Perhaps she was just momentarily taken aback?

“What, what…?!”

If today was the basis, this was the first time I had seen O Yoonseo react like this.

With her eyes rolling wildly as if she had swallowed a bunch of confusion, I asked again.

“Are you still tense?”

Finally, I understood why I had to act the way I did.

“Aah… really…”

Once she grasped that reality, she seemed a little embarrassed about how nervous she had been.

When she had walked into the room, her overly tense face had turned pale, but now it was flushed a bright red.

She buried her face in her palms and let out frustrated sounds for a moment, but after a while, she started to calm down.

Yoonseo slowly lifted her face from her palms.

She quietly raised her face and said—

“Ah, still a bit…?”

She answered my question belatedly.

Instead of simply responding, it was as if she was trying to sneakily avoid my gaze.

Anyway… given that she expressed she wasn’t completely relaxed yet, what could I do?

At this point, I had no choice but to be with her until she was completely at ease.

As we kept kissing until we were both out of breath, it somehow worked.

Or perhaps the last little comment I made had ignited Yoonseo’s will.

I’m not sure which it was, but when we arrived at the Association, none of the tension from before could be found on Yoonseo’s face.

Instead, it was filled with a look as if she had firmly resolved something.

“I’ll head over first and wait, so just do well, okay?”

“Yeah.”

“Don’t just snap random pictures lazily.”

“…Sure.”

“Did you pack your pen and whiteout?”

I was checking Yoonseo’s readiness one by one, and she started to hesitate a bit.

It was as if she had something to say to me.

“What’s up?”

As I asked, Yoonseo gulped nervously and said in a barely audible voice.

“Promise…”

“Promise?”

“You have to keep it…”

The promise was likely related to the wish token we made right before leaving the house.

It was amusing to see her show interest in that even before the exam had even started.

Her behavior was a bit funny, yet in a way, it was also cute, so—

“Hey, stop with the pointless talk and go take the exam.”

I chuckled and lightly flicked her forehead.

“Geez… really…”

“I promise, if you do well on the exam, I’ll grant you whatever you wish.”

For a moment, she blinked as she rubbed the spot I flicked, but my follow-up words brightened her expression.

“Really? That’s a promise? If you go back on your word… you know, right?”

Was that some kind of warning?

Shaking her non-threatening fist at me, Yoonseo was desperately trying to get a confirmation.

With a quick shove to her back—

“Yeah, yeah, I got it. Now go take the exam.”

I sent her off with the staff that had come to guide her.

As Yoonseo joined the staff and left, the special driver’s license test prepared just for her began.
