[TS] Obsessed Gamer: The Ultimate Return – Chapter 158

The lane test consists of a total of 6 games.

The first game is based on champions that are frequently seen in the current meta, giving the player an advantageous matchup, and observing how they handle lane in favorable situations.

The second game switches that matchup to see what the player does in unfavorable circumstances.

The third and fourth games follow a similar pattern, but this time, they use picks that are less reliant on matchups compared to the first and second matches.

The grand finale, the fifth and sixth games, feature the player’s chosen picks and combinations.

It’s somewhat of a blind pick situation.

ADC: Miss Fortune / Vayne

Support: Morgana / Leona

+

The Miss Fortune and Vayne matchup. In the current meta, these two ranged champions are the hottest picks, with Miss Fortune having a clear advantage in laning.

In other words, they are quite suitable champions for the test.

Additionally, with the support matchup of Morgana and Leona providing counter strengths, the lane dynamics were practically predetermined.

“Alright, give it a shot.”

As it happens, since we couldn’t recruit additional personnel for the test, the lane test is conducted with our own team members.

In short, this is the setup.

ADC: ShowMeTheAgal vs 3 Min Top School Honorary Member

Support: Getback vs Timid Person 190

The reason for placing Timid Person 190, a support main, against the applicant was that the support plays a leading role in lane. We intentionally arranged it that way to avoid the support overshadowing the applicant’s performance.

“Well, that’s not the important part right now.”

While I was lost in thought, the actual laning began.

-Minions have spawned!

Since the first test only focuses on laning, naturally, there’s no jungle intervention.

That means a fierce battle of wits is unavoidable from the start.

“Well, that’s not too bad.”

The early laning unfolded in the typical Miss Fortune vs Vayne style.

The Miss Fortune and Morgana duo firmly grasp the lane control while Vayne tries to farm.

If this were a normal 5v5 game, they would have to rely on jungle ganks.

What needs to be observed here is how the player can keep up the lane pressure even without jungle interference.

Of course, during the tests, there are those rare cases where applicants make mistakes even in a seemingly advantageous matchup and end up getting killed.

Those applicants are eliminated without question. If you can’t handle an easy matchup, there’s no need to consider how you would fare in a tough one.

“Well, they’re doing alright… but that’s about it.”

Mediocre.

Just like other applicants.

“Is this… really it?”

I was starting to think that way.

“……Huh?”

In a precarious situation where the minions hover close to the enemy turret, Miss Fortune unexpectedly decides it’s time to recall.

Naturally, Getback was so flustered by this that he momentarily forgot he was supposed to be testing, frantically sending retreat pings.

Even the mid laner felt the lane situation was incomprehensible.

“……What is this guy thinking?”

It was a decision that would bewilder even a Diamond player, let alone a Platinum one. Thinking about how Legends of League is quite balanced, it was a decision that could easily be made by a Gold player.

“…Why is he recalling from there?”

Is he trying to bait them? No way. If it were a bait, he wouldn’t be recalling in the far bushes where the enemy doesn’t have vision.

Especially without a jungler around, what on earth would such a bait achieve?

“What the hell…?”

Fortunately, perhaps thanks to Getback’s desperate retreat ping, Miss Fortune narrowly canceled her recall.

However, the lane control they had tightly in their grip was somewhat reset, and now it was time for Vayne to farm.

“This just became risky.”

As Miss Fortune backed off for a moment, a level gap emerged.

If Leona were to utilize her Flash to force a fight now, a kill could easily happen.

And sure enough…

The moment Miss Fortune moved forward to push the lane, Timid Person 190’s Leona dashed in boldly with her Flash.

-KA-POW!

That ability to seize an opportunity when it arises.

That was the talent I had sought so hard to recruit Timid Person 190 for.

Getback’s Morgana was trying to react, but due to the timing, by the time Morgana’s Black Shield was cast on Miss Fortune, Leona’s stun had already landed on her as well.

It was too late to escape now.

All that was left was to face it bravely.

A fierce battle ensued. Despite starting the skirmish in a losing position, Miss Fortune used her Flash to hit Leona with Q, simultaneously dealing follow-up damage to Vayne.

Miss Fortune’s Q might have missed the second hit, but if it connects, it packs a hell of a punch.

With a well-timed clean hit, Vayne’s health plummeted.

“Hmm?”

Was it just a stroke of luck or a calculated strategy?

Whatever the truth, in the end, Miss Fortune and Morgana’s duo narrowly emerged victorious from the skirmish.

-First Blood!

-Enemy slain!

Ironically, it was because Miss Fortune left herself open that a kill opportunity arose.

[All][Timid Person 190 (Leona): gg]

Was this enough for the first test?

Timid Person 190 called GG.

“……Huh, haha.”

What on earth did I just see?

Is this really the Legends of League I know?

I chuckled to myself. After all, they managed to secure a kill and win the lane.

[Outlaw: …Let’s move on to the next game]

Fortunately, I quickly found an opportunity to clarify what I had just witnessed.

In Legends of League, true skill reveals itself not in favorable situations but in challenging ones.

It’s no wonder people cheer for superstars who pull off super plays while balancing on a razor’s edge in tough situations.

“I’ll know soon enough.”

What I really saw.

Whether the recent events were just coincidence or genuine skill.

“Well… of course it’s likely a fluke.”

And then…

Before long, I discovered that my prior thoughts were mere delusions.

-First Blood!

-Enemy slain!

What’s going on?

What did I just see?

“Are they actually getting kills out there?”

No matter how you slice it, 3 Min Top School Honorary Member is not an ADC, yet they’re pulling off this against a Challenger?

Let alone, who’s the support?

Isn’t it none other than Timid Person 190, one of the few supports I’ve come to respect outside of pros?

“Sure, Getback saw that kill opportunity… but that was only possible because Vayne was pulling aggro up front.”

The bot lane is led by the support.

But that doesn’t mean the ADC’s role is negligible.

Ultimately, the ranged damage dealer is the core of the bot lane.

No matter how well the support performs, if the ADC fails to deal damage, it’s all for nothing.

“……Was that just luck?”

The reason I held such fundamental doubts was simple.

Despite getting a kill, Vayne, who wandered around unsure of when to recall, was soon punished by an enemy who had returned to lane.

-Our ally has been slain!

In every sense, it was legendary.

Clearly a risky timing, yet this was likely the reason for ShowMeTheAgal’s decision.

“Timing-wise, I bet they realized they could farm a few more minions before getting their items.”

Of course, it’s not necessarily a bad thing to be a greedy ADC.

After all, the ADC position is one where you can afford to be greedy provided you deliver.

“The real issue is they couldn’t even see their own death coming.”

Their sharpness during combat was pretty usable, even quite impressive, yet they simply couldn’t manage in Legends of League overall.

Ironically, that very talent aligned quite well with the conditions I was looking for in an ADC.

“……I need to confirm this.”

To see if this reckless player is the real deal.

Or just a fluke of luck.

[All][Outlaw (Nunu and Willump): moving on to the next game]

Now it begins for real.

3 Min Top School Honorary Member getting a kill was a consequence of overestimating their advantageous matchup and getting caught by the enemy.

So, it would be when the 3 Min Top School Honorary Member plays properly and remains alert that we’ll truly see the skills of ShowMeTheAgal.

-Welcome to Summoner’s Rift!

Laning test.

The third test is about to commence.
